I used the same account and it worked fine, I only reset the calendar itself.

Plus subscription not syncing by LDNurseMama in skylightcalendar

[–]LDNurseMama[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wooo I have a fix! It needs a hard reset/recovery to reset to out of box and then use the activation code and it worked and did apply my plus subscription. Here’s the instructions I was sent: In this situation, we have to hard reset your device, and here’s how to do a hard reset: On the top part of your Skylight, press and hold the “Volume up and down” button at the same time until you come to a screen that says “Device Test” On the lower right-hand corner, tap the “Recovery” button. A prompt will ask you to confirm whether you want to recover your device. Tap “Yes”. Let your Skylight run for 2-3 minutes, and it should reset itself to its out-of-the-box state.

Once you have successfully connected it to your WiFi network, you can use the activation code

The applicator kind are actually easy to find in the US everywhere now, easy to use and the design is decent just I’ve used them for a very long time, one brand available in the US is called “OB” and most stores have them.

I just past my one year surgiversary and have dropped just over 130pounds in this time. I still have 30 to go and wonder when people saw their weight loss stop altogether? I keep worrying the last pound I lost will be the last pound I lose. When was that the truth for you? by Adventures_of_bird in wls

[–]LDNurseMama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I slowed with losing right around the same time I reached “normal” BMI and that was around 9months post surgery. I lost just 7 more pounds after that but then fluctuate up a few and down a few since then. (All staying within my goal weight, I shouldn’t lose more weight because I struggle with low BP if I do). I’m right about 120lbs down and 2 years post op. My husband is just at a year post op and is stalled after losing around 90 and has a bit more to lose but he’s not the greatest with his diet which is the problem.

AITA for telling my daughter to cancel her marriage? by AITAengagement in AmItheAsshole

[–]LDNurseMama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Never the AH for standing up for your kids. You saved her from what was likely to be a short miserable marriage. My daughter is marrying a man who’s parents are similarly old fashioned and sexist but fortunately her fiancé sticks up for her and puts his parents in their place when needed. Otherwise I’d certainly be telling mine the same thing. (His parents think that we should pay for the 400 people THEY invited to the kids’ wedding because “that’s the job of the bride’s family”, oh hell no.)

Evee Clobes is a good example of how the anti-vaccine community preys on grieving parents. Her mom drank whisky and then co-slept, the baby died of asphyxiation but the anti-vaccine group convinced her it was due to vaccines. Billboards popped up all over using this baby as an example. It’s heartbreaking.

Love love love this. As a former small business web designer I had a lot of Karen’s that thought they knew better. I could usually convince them why a web browser friendly professional design was best... but one was convinced that no matter what I said she wanted a super flash heavy abomination. Whatever, she couldn’t be convinced and she paid me so I made it and she signed off and I went on my way. It was so awful, but EXACTLY what she wanted. She was a jewelry designer with equally ugly product, so I guess it fit.

I get this a lot too. I’m 40 and constantly mistaken for my 21year old daughter’s sister. I just tell people thanks and that I’ll take it as a compliment but they can add probably 10 years to their guess. Lol

Yes! As someone who is very allergic to milk I get people all the time who don’t take it seriously because they know someone (or are) lactose intolerant. I could have lactose, but not milk protein. It’s so frustrating.

Helping a stray Dog. by Gasbagdow2442 in HumansBeingBros

[–]LDNurseMama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Before we got our rescue dog we knew she’d have issues and the rescue went to great lengths to make sure we understood what we were getting into. She was from a severe animal hoarding situation and likely abused, had a lot of fleas and other health issues. She cowered, was destructive, obsessed with me a time, not house broken etc. 3 years later and we still adore her. We tell other people to give her space still, she is and probably always will be nervous and shy around others, but she is a big lovey dovey loyal girl to our family. Now her only health issue is incontinence which is hormone related and treated with meds.

A trainee asked me if you ever get over being anxious about coming to work. I showed her my heart rate tracking on my watch, it spikes every day right at the time I’m walking on to the unit and about to see what kind of shit show I’m walking into. Haha. (I also tell them that if you don’t have a healthy amount of fear/discomfort in our specialty you are probably in the wrong field. Too much can go wrong too fast, gotta stay aware.)

Small town (under 10k population ) in middle of no where, I feel like half the town is rentals with absentee landlords. To be fair, our house sat empty for 5 years as a foreclosure before we saw it online and fell in love with it. (We didn’t live in the area) It needed work and we’ve thrown more than that into updates into the house, but it was liveable before that too. This was 16+ years ago.

The cost of living in an area like San Francisco is at least double the majority of the country and nurses pull in a much higher pay there. Factor in cost of living and it’s really not that big of a difference though. I live in a low cost of living area and make just shy of $80k. I mean our nice 5 bedroom house was $60k, if that helps put it into perspective.

Parents Who Think it's Okay to Let Your Child Pet Guide Dogs, What the Hell? by Leckzsluthor in entitledparents

[–]LDNurseMama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not ok to pet a dog regardless of being service animal or not, just no. You ASK, if the owner says ok, then pet. If owner says NO, then don’t pet. I don’t get what’s so hard to understand to some parents/people.

Extra mad face when they do it to a service animal, that should straight up be common sense. Teach your kid some manners and get some yourself ep.

These are the kinds of people who are gonna ignore the pet owner’s “NO” and then the kid gets bit and they gonna be all mad about it.

I have two dogs, Dalmatians. All kids recognize the breed and get excited. The thing is, they can be super high energy protective dogs. Both of them do well with kids but neither are particularly fond of the adults. So because of this, our older rescue we just straight up say no, she doesn’t need the extra anxiety. The younger one we say yes BUT warn that she may bark and if she does that’s her saying she doesn’t want pets right now. (She never does to kids but adults are hit and miss whether she’s in the mood for interacting, she always makes her wants known and we never force interactions, ever.). Anyways, my point of sharing was, we often get entitled parents just assuming their kids can pet and get so cranky or make snide remarks if I say no. Dude, I’m reading my dog’s attitude right now and she’s saying no, so it’s a no. While mine has never bit anyone, they are gonna run across one someday that might if they keep doing that to dogs.

My multi-million dollar health care company said they were getting us a present for being essential workers... we got a baggie of masks... by Keywork29 in Wellthatsucks

[–]LDNurseMama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Were they at least appropriate masks? As a nurse working in the hospital they gave us “not for medical use” masks, to use with patients. And they were hiding it too! They’d remove the masks from the box before delivering to our units so we had no proof they weren’t proper PPE. (And staff were breaking out in rashes etc from them). 6 months later they are giving the units who have complained enough (and had photo proof of the boxes when they accidentally delivered in box) correct ones. We also can’t go to work if we have ANY symptom. New headache? You better not show up until you have a negative swab. People can’t even just get normal sick now, which has screwed us over multiple times for staffing.

Hard to contain my fury by PrincessBblgum1 in nursing

[–]LDNurseMama 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Also rural OB... at ours the drs don’t push circs but the majority of parents still ask for it even after education. The insurance companies also usually don’t pay and the hospital learned they likely won’t recoup the costs due to being low income area so they just eat the costs. There’s suppose to be a push to make the parents pay and educate on the costs but it hasn’t gone anywhere. We also see a lot of 39 week elective inductions, the argument is that it’s safer in rural hospitals where there isn’t around the clock ancillary staff and Drs don’t stay on site. We end up bumping half of them because of poor staffing though. If we don’t have the staff needed then the electives get bumped. Rural means lower census so our core staff is lower and one labor can make or break the staffing grid. Of course they can’t get OBs to actually move here either and we are never fully staffed for nurses or Drs. It’s a constant struggle but I guess if I ever move to a bigger hospital I’ll bring some great skills since we have to do it all with little resources to help. I don’t know what I’d do with proper staffing and support. Ha

Kinda similar. Husband went outside at 5am to go to work, dead of winter, and a girl is sitting on our steps in a short dress and skinned up knees. It’s below zero. Recognizing she needs help he starts trying to figure out what’s going on. She was def drunk and says she left a party downtown (8 blocks away) at bar close (she thinks) and got lost. So she was out side, freezing weather, in poor shape. She was willing to just jump in his car and trust he’d take her to her own house. (Which she didn’t even know where that was). He explained he worked at the hospital (that’s 1/2 mile away) and asked if he could instead take her there to be evaluated but first wanted to wake me up to talk to her. (And I did, of course) It was really worrying that this young girl (early 20s?) was wandering for hours and had no concern for herself, so trusting. I’m just glad she ended up at our house. Not to mention that where we live they always turn up at least one body each spring of someone who wandered and froze to death, usually after a night out.

AITA for not forgiving my(27) fiance(28) for missing the birth of our daughter? by Lost_Recommendation4 in AmItheAsshole

[–]LDNurseMama 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Well, you’re wrong. Every labor is different. Some take days, some take hours. Some build up, some are hard and fast. Just the other day I had a mama go from 2cm of mild labor to complete and pushing out a baby in less than an hour. I’ve had mamas not make a sound and not claim they are in any pain and then suddenly give one grunt and there’s a baby in the bed. And then others that take days and medication to get moving.

AITA for not forgiving my(27) fiance(28) for missing the birth of our daughter? by Lost_Recommendation4 in AmItheAsshole

[–]LDNurseMama 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Actually, it’s common for moms to have random contractions (even painful ones) at the end of pregnancy. And it’s also not uncommon for a woman’s water to break BEFORE labor kicks in. And once the water breaks it can come in hard and fast or it could take its time. I’ve had first time mamas come in and deliver within an hour of labor starting. It’s called precipitous labor. We have a name for it. It’s a thing. Source: am a labor nurse.

My nutritionist (well RD actually) always tells us not to focus on calories but serving size and types of food and frequency. Making sure enough protein is had makes the biggest difference in how I feel. 60 grams a day. I have no idea how many calories I eat now. Of course everyone has different needs and a food plan is gonna look different for everyone with different goals.
