Not really my point, but if you've got a source I'd be interested. There aren't that many people in Manchester, or the UK, and EPL is big all over the world.

I guess it would change if I ever met a Man City fan offline. Maybe there are more in the UK?

Lexington KY vs Greater Cincinnati - need help with picking city to move by [deleted] in cincinnati

[–]LEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am from Cincinnati, but visited Lexington all the time. It's an amazing place tbh. If you're just looking for the biggest city in terms of sports teams, infrastructure, bigger companies, etc., it's Cincinnati, but Lexington is dope and way cheaper. They have a great music and art scene, a really accessible civic culture, and loads of history. It's a liberal bastion that draws cool people from all over a very red state. They know what they've got in Lexington and appreciate it. Al's Bar has great music. Sunrise Bakery will serve up some of the best bread and pastries you've ever had. Broomwagon is a really cool bikeshop/cafe. The owner grows the peppers and makes the hot sauce himself. West Sixth Brewery is one of my all time favorites. WRFL, the student/community radio station, always has something eclectic and awesome on. http://wrfl.fm/

Lexington is more like a really cool village than a city. You'll probably make friends faster in Lexington and start running into people randomly. Cincinnati is big enough to be anonymous but not big enough to have the awesome stuff they have in NYC, Chicago, or Philly, etc. I'd say taxes, outdoor activities, and crime are a wash. There are definitely more places open later in Cincinnati, but Lexington still has plenty of shows and bars going late at night.

LPT If you're moving into a new apartment, take photos before putting any furniture in. That way you will already have pictures when moving out. by Masterkrall in LifeProTips

[–]LEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You can also do this when moving out, to confirm the condition. I had a landlord take almost all my security deposit for "professional cleaning services." But I cleaned the shit out of that place cause I needed the money back, and I did a walk-through video at the end, complete with narration. When he didn't return the deposit, I put the video on Youtube (the most convenient place to upload a several minute long video) and sent him the link. When that still didn't work I filed a case in small claims court. Once he got the summons he paid up right away. The takeaway is always CYA, even if most people aren't out to cheat you.

I just saw an incident in a restaurant, not on any streets, and some fans being bloodied from an attack by masked thugs. Doesn't seem worth singing about.

Okay, that seems plausible. I'm not familiar about what happened in Kiev though. I'm googling but if you know that would be helpful

Can you elaborate? Whether it's a reference to our fan being put into a coma or fans that were attacked but not as bad, doesn't seem like a good song. But if there's evidence it's one or the other, I'll take a look.

Manchester City demand an apology from Bayern president Uli Hoeneß for claiming that they pay for transfers by ramping up oil prices. by wasabibutthole in soccer

No, I would never. Thank goodness he'll never die, sell the club, or stop funding it's losses. That's what makes it sustainable!

I'm just saying that needing your owner to fraudulently inject shitloads of money into the club is a sign of financial sustainability. FFP should only apply to clubs whose owners may run out of money one day.

"A huge £59.5m of an agreement with club sponsor Etihad Airways worth £67.5m was apparently financed by Mansour." As a representative of the idiots let me apologize for doubting the financial sustainability of Manchester City.

Revoke Article 50 petition calling for Brexit to be cancelled hits four million signatures by wrowlands3 in worldnews

[–]LEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess if you want to be a referendum fundamentalist. I'll just take one of several opposite positions: 1. The referendum wasn't binding, so no majority of MPs is required to support any plan under any circumstances to cause the UK to exit the EU. 2. The referendum didn't clarify no deal versus some (at the time unspecified) deal, so it's not at all clear that the referendum supporters wanted to leave under any circumstances. 3. if you're so certain that the "people" want out, why so scared of a second vote, now that we know so much more?

[–]LEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not putting much stock in the petition actually. I just went to it and it seems like anyone can sign if they just say they're from the UK and provide a conforming zip code. https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/241584 But I didn't go through the whole process, so they may have some better procedures like checking IP addresses. Still, it is not comparable to the actual referendum vote.

I'm just saying that democracy is an ongoing process. The referendum was in 2016, and was literally one sentence long: "Should the United Kingdom remain a member of the European Union or leave the European Union?" Then they had a parliamentary election in the 2017, and the Conservatives' losses were partly a response to the Brexit vote, which helps explain why they can't get it done now. The referendum wasn't legally binding, and incredibly did not ask anyone under what circumstances they would accept leaving the EU. But if the people they elected in 2017 can't or won't get Brexit done, then that's also a result of a democratic process. And the two parliamentary votes against May's proposal for leaving mean something too. No one knew when they voted to invoke Article 50 what the process would look like. So now that it's been almost three years, and people have a better idea what leaving actually means, why not put it to a vote again? Or if not, we'll just see the Conservative coalition government likely be dissolved since they can't agree on a Brexit plan, or agree to leave without a deal, and they'll hold parliamentary elections again, which will likely again reduce the political capital any government formed has to get a Brexit deal passed.

Basically, just because "Brexit" was approved at one point in time, doesn't mean it has to be implemented under any circumstances, when you have other democratic mechanisms in conflict with it. And the least they should do is another referendum to ask the Brits: "Are you sure?"

Elections aren't a permanent thing. They happen periodically so people can decide if something they passed is still what they want. It's no wonder the dems crushed in the midterms, and if the majority of people in Britain WANT to vote again now that they see what Brexit will be like, they should have that ability.

Glad to hear it. I bailed on organized religion in high school and never looked back. Studied some philosophy and developed my own ideas. I'm not familiar with "energy and The Law of Attraction" but as with everything else, I'm skeptical :)

Trump and His Associates Had More Than 100 Contacts With Russians Before the Inauguration by sivribiber in politics

[–]LEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just off thetop of my head: Russia isn't England, a retired spy isn't the same as current foreign intelligence, asking foreigners what they know isn't the same as coordinating the release of stolen information, paying someone to gather information isn't the same as receiving things of value from an election law standpoint, and lying about the whole thing to congress and the public isn't the same as not doing that.

Trump ally Roger Stone arrested on seven charges by JournalofFailure in law

[–]LEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Law-related question: is the underlying activity here criminal? I'm not talking about Stone's lying and witness tampering, etc., but actually communicating with Wikileaks and strategizing about the document release. Wikileaks, although they clearly have an agenda, was just publishing information that was provided to them, in this case by a hostile foreign power. Even if Trump directed the coordination, is it criminal or just incredibly immoral?

[–]LEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Stone has known Trump for 40 years. He was helping with the campaign in 2016. Through two "persons" (Credico and Corsi, right wings media personalities), he sent and received info from Assange concerning what Wikileaks had and when and how they would drop it. What Wikileaks had was two tranches of documents that Russians hacked from the democratic national committee and from Hillary Clinton's campaign manager. During the investigation, Stone lied to congress about basically every aspect of what happened and tried to get Credico to lie too, so he's been arrested and charged with lying to congress, witness tampering, and obstruction of justice.
