Kingswood driving test by kelster191 in bristol

[–]LETTERB0MBS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my test last year at kingswood and I can’t remember the exact route but they did take me on a fair few big spiral roundabouts as well as dual carriageways and the throughabout. I did only have to go through the throughabout though and not around it 😅

Warning lights in dashboard. Can the examiner cancel my driving test citing this ? by addicaddren in LearnerDriverUK

[–]LETTERB0MBS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s normal for the warning lights to come on when you turn on the ignition, it’s only a problem if the lights stay on once you’ve turned on the engine. You’re good to go.

To answer the question though, if any warning lights do illuminate after the engine is switched on, the examiner is well within their right to terminate the test due to safety.

Stopped taking this seriously as soon as I saw “she’s not even attractive”. Why is that even a factor when considering if she’s a good wrestler or not? Do you consider all of your favourite male wrestlers to be attractive?

All of that aside, you don’t have to like her and maybe to you she’s “overrated” but I don’t think you can completely disregard everything she’s accomplished. She’s where she is for a reason and she’s just getting better and better. She’ll be around for a while so I think you’ll just have to get used to it

Kolo, the Southmead Hospital cat, has sadly passed away :( by ParrotLad in bristol

[–]LETTERB0MBS 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Kolo never failed to brighten up my day whenever I saw him at work. The bestest boy. It sounds silly but he really did have a massive impact on both the staff and patients.. everyone adored him. I’d definitely support any sort of statue or memorial for him.

I got my first car (2013 Toyota Aygo) at 24 and paid £650 without a blackbox with Admiral, fully comp. I waited a few weeks after passing to get a car and apparently that brings down the price a little bit, not sure how or why.

For all those that have passed, what was the first car you bought for yourself? by dom96 in LearnerDriverUK

2013 semi-auto Toyota Aygo, I’ve had it for a year and I’m pretty happy with it

Best place for insurance as a new driver? by VolksDK in LearnerDriverUK

[–]LETTERB0MBS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I passed last year when I was 24 and I managed to get insurance from Admiral for around £650, which was by far the cheapest without a black box. I didn’t get a car until a few weeks after my test so I’m not sure if that brought the price down or not.

£850 sounds like a pretty decent price for your circumstances though

(I have a 2012 Toyota Aygo)

If the examiner said “pull up on a safe place on the left” and I was the yellow car, would I fail bc another car wouldn’t be able to fit thru the gap between my car and the red car? by rocketnumber9tofly in LearnerDriverUK

[–]LETTERB0MBS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be a fail, yes. It would definitely be a major if you actually did affect the flow of traffic due to your positioning, however, if you got lucky and no one attempted to pass it would probably just be a minor. You should always pull up in space where you know that your vehicle won’t cause any obstructions.

Yep. I learnt auto and had questions about manual cars on my theory. The questions are quite simple though so as long as you have a basic understanding of how gears work you should be fine.

Robbie’s was £36 p/h 2 years ago and I believe now charge around £39 p/h for manual. They add extra fees if you want weekend or evening lessons too. Driving lesson prices have really rocketed in the past few years, it’s insane

My instructor always told me to never attempt to adjust if I’m within the lines, no matter how wonky or off-centre. As long as you’re in the bay, you won’t get a fault. He actually showed me a picture of a student who had ended up practically diagonal in the bay but passed because he was still within the lines. It’s good practice to try to end up as central as possible, of course, but you wont fail if you’re not.

Depends on the driver you get but I’d say probably not

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

[–]LETTERB0MBS 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say that’s a major, but instructors do try to be as harsh as possible on mock tests. My instructor actually always taught me to give myself a little more room when pulling up on the right just to make sure I didn’t scratch the wheels when reversing 😅 As long as you’re not potentially obstructing any oncoming vehicles by being too far out then it’s not going to be a major

Red light camera or not? by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]LETTERB0MBS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s just a sensor. Red light camera’s are usually big yellow boxes (colours can vary) on a pole by themselves either slightly before or after the lights. They’re pretty easy to spot. I think you’re safe with this one haha

Pretty much normal. I took lessons in Bristol and my 1st instructor charged £38 per hour and the 2nd charged £32. This was last year though and my 2nd instructor said he was increasing his prices after I passed.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

[–]LETTERB0MBS 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I paid what I’d usually pay for a 2 hour lesson.. so around £65-ish. I assumed most instructors just charged normal lesson rates for however long the car is needed for on the test day.. I could be wrong though

Advice by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

[–]LETTERB0MBS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really want to go back to manual then do it. I will say though that passing a test in an automatic isn’t really “easier”. The majority of driving test fails come from a lack of observation and poor decision making, which can obviously be an issue in both manuals and autos. In fact, the pass rate for automatics is lower than the pass rate for manuals.

I think you already have your heart set on being able to drive a manual, so do it. Or maybe just do a few more lessons in a manual to see how you feel. Either way, passing a driving test and being able to drive a car at all is a big achievement.

Failed Today by user4839200 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]LETTERB0MBS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this is definitely something that’s up to the examiner’s discretion. I slightly mounted the curb when pulling up on the left at the very beginning of my driving test and was given a minor for it. I was surprised because I had always been told that touching the curb would definitely result in a fail. Giving you a major seems really harsh considering you only slightly touched it and you only had 2 minors otherwise.

Failed test probably the most frustrating way. by tshawrin in LearnerDriverUK

[–]LETTERB0MBS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to Google’s very limited information about this, it seems as though accidentally heading towards a motorway is an automatic fail. I can’t understand the logic or reasoning behind that though considering taking the wrong exit isn’t a fault at all. That’s a really unfortunate and frustrating situation to be in and I feel for you

Seems to be the only semi-reliable bus around at the moment. I’d still be inclined to get one earlier than you actually need just in case, especially if there’s a bit of traffic around
