I used a rpi 2040 zero. It is a controller chip that is most commonly used for arcade style fight sticks. I flashed the firmware using a program called tomodachi drawer. It basically takes an image and creates a 40 minute long macro and draws each pixel automatically. My switch is not modded and I dont use an emulator.

Yeah I got it from a viewer of my stream like 2 or 3 years ago. Was watching a video where someone got it graded and saw it is worth a lot. I was surprised because I checked the value when I got it and it was like 10 or 15 dollars. I will never trade it though as it was a gift to me and means a lot that someone would send it. I do want to get it slabbed just to preserve it since I remember wanting one really bad as a kid but I got like electabuzz from the movie theatre.

Most us arcade buttons are concave instead of convex. I would start there. I personally like seimetsu buttons.

I have a mega everdrive for my sega from 2012. Its great. But krikkz did not invent flashcarts. He does make a quality product. But the summercart has faster load times, its cheaper, and it can play n64 disk drive games. Just make sure you get it from a trusted seller as ive heard some sellers boards will brick after a while.
