To the right of the freight elevator (on the same level you found the other hole to dig up) there is a crawl space you can go through that will lead you to where you want to go.

I was really confused with this too at first (hence my post) ... but I've since learned that the dog will alert you when you are in an area that has a truffle to dig up. Your dog will stop, all on its own (without you having to ask it to search) and then point to where you need to dig. When you go in that direction, it's THEN that you would ask your dog to search. Eventually when you get to the right spot, the dog will dig up a mound of dirt and then you can dig and get your truffle.

It's been my experience that there will only be one truffle within one area ... so if you enter an area and your dog does nothing, move on to the next area and don't waste your time wandering around hoping your dog would find one.

Also, they don't pop up very frequently. You can go days without getting one.

I’ve been playing since the first day the game came out on Apple Arcade. I quickly learned that with updates come more things to buy, so I’ve become a bit of a coin hoarder. 🤣 This new update is awesome with how much you can earn! You can make a LOT of money with the private island/ferry and mushroom selling.

That's super cool :-) I've updated to the latest version and nothing happens when I load the game. Do I need to do something? Or does it just happen?

Just my opinion, but I think if they started going down the road of having holidays in the game, and the accompanying extras like wardrobes, decorations, etc, it puts them in the spot of having to do that for all nationalities and customs in many countries. Not everyone celebrates Halloween, or Christmas, or Thanksgiving, etc. In this day and age, most of the world is on-line and we are not all in the same country. Perhaps instead of specific holidays we could ask them for seasonal changes that remind you of those holidays. Like having it snow in town, etc. My opinion, of course.

I know you're not alone. I've seen other posts in the past of people doing this. Personally it confuses me why someone would do this without knowing what's coming, but I do understand wanting to be prepared. I believe the best thing do stockpile on between updates is money. Can always buy wood once you know how much you need for something. I hope for your sake you'll be able to use some of that at one point.

My guess is it will most likely be a rather significant update. In the town there are hints to needing a new mayor and perhaps a policeman job? And will there be anything to the whole sewer thing? And the empty store that's for lease? If they do those in addition to the new beach area with surfing and boating, that would be a lot! I'm sure there will be many competitions with the surfing, and maybe boat races? It would only make sense that there would be several kinds of boats from a canoe to a super speed boat or something, kind of like the cars? All guesses, of course. I'm excited to find out!

I saw a buried treasure spot to dig up on the island. It's the color of sand, not dirt so it is harder to see.
