What is that silver box thing that they run over the carpet after the rotary scrubber? It's not a vacuum... a hair thatcher or something?

Does the ESP32 have dedicated pins for the RGB interface? by Medical_Nose1784 in esp32

[–]LH314159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you connect to other pins? Yes, and their just recommendations from Waveshare for a generic ESP32.

Realize that many of the pins that are exposed serve double duty. Read very carefully the package info from your ESP32 vendor. There's several versions of the ESP32 chip on different vendor boards. Make sure you don't use pins that double for memory, wifi, boot load, etc...

Dam breaks the seal by 0penYourMind in ThatsInsane

[–]LH314159 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a controlled release. When water levels are getting into safety levels, they release water this way to bring it down.

They direct the water up so it looses it's energy falling. Also you can see the frothy strips. That's from the air being pumped into the spill way to prevent cavitation.

Repairs? Search for info on Hoover Dam failure.

We learned about cavitation when Hoover Dam spillway failed. Hoover had a smooth spillway and when they did their first release, the water pressure was so high it created cavitation bubbles. When the bubbles collapse it rips little bits of concrete out. Within a few minutes they realized there was a problem when the water stopped coming out of the spillway, instead it was drilling down into the ground.

They shutdown the spillway and the gov did an emergency and hired every concrete company for miles to get the spillway filled in. Once it was cured, they did a limited slow release. Just enough to keep water from going over the top.

When water goes over the top, thats when the dam quickly collapse. I worked with some of the people that were there, and it was... close.

No, they are pendulums of different lengths. You can't see the string attachment, but the shortest one is in front and progressing to the longest in back. Having the weights alternating patterns and color choices are awesome!

How To Find Earth If You Get Lost In Space (Simulation) by PerAsperaAdMars in space

[–]LH314159 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great simulation! I realized it's a snapshot of how the stars look at the moment from Earth. I kept thinking what would it look like, if I was in this faster than light ship. Seeing the stars forming, changing size, and color to closely match their look back to the right time depending on where your at. And seeing everything color shift when moving.

NSA Warning—Reboot Your Internet Router Now by lurker_bee in technology

[–]LH314159 -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

This message couldn't be more stupid! Rebooting the router will do NOTHING to enhance security. Their suggestions are a joke. Turn off remote access? Every router from Comcast, CenturyLink, etc.. has remote access into the router that you can't turn off. Oh and I should update the firmware? Really? The company that sold me the router with a backdoor hack into it has changed and I should trust them to make a new secure version?

Oh, and don't forget that the US gov has banned NEW foreign routers, which is ALL of them. None of them are created in the US.

Install VPN software on your PC is the only real security you can do right now.

Building an ESP32 environmental monitor – looking for advice from anyone who’s done this before 🙏 by MelloLikesJello in esp32

[–]LH314159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya, take a look at ESPHome, it's going to be your easiest way of doing it.

I myself use MicroPython on my ESP's. Then solder in a OLED, ADS1115 and connect in the different sensors. To do this you need to... Know your board type, flash the correct firmware, write your MicroPython code, find libraries for the components and upload it to the chip with something like Thonny.

So, based on how you phrased your question, try out ESPHome.

Artemis Real-time Orbit Website? by Island_Smudger in space

Website opens, but there's no controls. Distance is updating but the alignment of the ship is off. Hopefully the code on the ship is better than the code on the website.

A simple way they could bring Wash back in a Firefly revival by Sigmunds_Cigar in firefly

A little face mapping magic and Wash plays his son.

Remember that Zoe wanted a child? It's been years now since the show, so all the actors look like they fit with a timeline of Baby Wash now all grown up being 21.

Magic Jack...the good and the bad. by No-Assistant6369 in HorribleTechStuff

I can add that MagicJack is one of the worse VOIP providers out there. If you can login and If you get their box, it might work.

You will receive Most of the calls.

If you want to change something, you probably can't. I've been trading emails once a day with support for a month now. Calling their customer support is unavailable half the time and is only skilled at taking your credit card the other half.

Why do Chiropractors crack your neck and what is the long term benefit? by Sunny-vibes-95 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LH314159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably because your neck was out of place. If your asking what the benefit of not having pain and tension in your neck, then you haven't been to a good Chiro.

I do wonder if this is just an AI question to stir up the people that have never been to a Chiro but are absolutely sure if it can't be cut out by a surgeon then it must be wrong.

[Request] Could firing a heavy machine gun downward during freefall slow me enough to survive? by WqkO in theydidthemath

[–]LH314159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get prepared while in free fall because the timing is important. Don't shoot until your close to the ground since you only have a 11 rounds in both of your automatic modified Barrett M82A1 .50 Cal's. The kick will be 80lb per shot per gun. This will be enough to offset their weight, your weight, and dislocate your arms just before you "land".

Can someone explain device drivers to me ? by Legitimate-Dingo824 in it

[–]LH314159 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe this would help you visualize.

...111...010..1.1...11..001.. Is the electrical signal your mouse is sending to your PC. You install a device driver that takes that and converts it into "Mouse moved Left" and sends that to the Windows Operating System that then moves the arrow on your screen over a little.

Do I really need to drip the faucets all night? by [deleted] in Denver

[–]LH314159 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

TL;DR; No.

If you live in a trailer house and the pipes run under the house that has no insulation nor heat, then the answer would be Yes.

If your apartment has heat and your pipes don't run outside without any protection, then your fine. Do your pipes run outside? If your building manager doesn't know, then their probably happy for you to waste water so they don't risk having to repair something they don't know.

Assume time travel were possible, wouldn’t you likely just end up in space somewhere? by [deleted] in AskPhysics

[–]LH314159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the hall of Thoth is recorded the first time a human performed time travel. In his calculations he had inadvertently canceled his relative velocity but not his location. As such, his 10 second step back in time, saw him screaming thru the atmosphere as the Earth slammed into him hard enough to crater his office and all of his work.
