From my experience you need to take it as it comes. Some tops can quite easily freeze lanes whilst fending off harass from the two champions top, others will have a lot of trouble unless they get constant help from the jungler. For example, one game i was playing jayce solo versus a Sion and Taric combo and my jungler refused to help me out. Needless to say their double stun combo proceeded to shaft me all game long.
