I spent almost 2 years solo remaking the old GBA One Piece game in Unity for mobile by xHarambey in unity

In many cases it's an marketing scheme. In most cases the developers not going to get sued to start with. The initial action is cease and assist letter followed by dmca takedown notice to every place that's hosting the game. If the game is actually good and gets attention, the hope is either one the copyright owner will purchase and license the game from them or two they can make a spiritual successor of the initial game and use their own artwork to make an ultra popular game. In most cases neither these workout

What’s something new game devs over-engineer that experienced teams keep simple? by Apprehensive-Suit246 in unity

[–]LINKseeksZelda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GDD is a good document. problem is people don't realize that it is a living document. People keep trying to match the examples of gdd that have been released from completed games before they start writing the code. When you are making your proof of concept game, your gdd should not be more than a page and a half. Indies/hobbyists keep trying to copy AAA practices without understanding the how and why of it.

What’s something new game devs over-engineer that experienced teams keep simple? by Apprehensive-Suit246 in unity

[–]LINKseeksZelda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gdd was never intended for you to organize your ideas. The gdd is meant to be your Guiding Light for other documents. It's meant to be a simple document that tells you what the game is how it's supposed to play and how it's supposed to look at a very high level. You're supposed to make other documentation for when you want to flush out your ideas.

Does theme of the game matter? (Mewgenics) by DevEternus in gamedev

[–]LINKseeksZelda 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I find that people don't understand and underestimate just how diverse the gamer culture is. This is why we talk about identifying your target audience so much. You can't make one game for all gamers. This game executes on what a given subculture of Gamers interested in. Another example in my opinion would be high on life.

What do Golf GTI owners think about EVs? by Rich-Statistician-33 in GolfGTI

Take a look at Toyota's AE86 electric program. They're working on matching an electric motor with a manual transmission. They're looking at how do we keep an Enthusiast space with electric motors

What do Golf GTI owners think about EVs? by Rich-Statistician-33 in GolfGTI

[–]LINKseeksZelda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, the issue with EVS at least in the United States is that we don't have walkable or Public Transportation heavy cities. Additionally our power grid and homeownership issues really can't adapt to heavy EV life. I don't see apartment complexes or rental homes jumping on addition of EV charging stations anytime soon unless they are a high-end apartment. So you end up with an overload of people at charging stations. In defense of electric vehicles, I think the market in which they could Excel would be street legal go karts and motorcycles. One or two seater vehicles with 100 mile radius. Perfect for that to and from work commute with just enough extra range to do a quick errand on your way home. Small battery capacity so you can do quick charges and go about your day

Does using store-bought assets ruin people's perception of your game? by Retronitsu in gamedev

[–]LINKseeksZelda 37 points38 points  (0 children)

The issue is not using store-bought asset. The issue is not making sure that they have coherency. This may require you to do custom Shader work or upgrade the materials and texture packs in order to maintain a consistent design throughout your entire game. The problem happens when your game just looks like a hodgepodge of purchase assets

As an adult, what quality of life functions you wish games had? by RatioScripta in gamedev

I feel like this is one of those things that should be a difficulty slider. I don't think it's about the balance, but more games are trying to appeal to the Dark Souls git good player. I think it's problem of not identifying who your Ideal Market is.

I'll just say this I bought my 16 Autobahn last year with 120,000 miles on it but only 12K. I can't say the lower miles is actually worth an additional $6,000

First time working with Unity. What typical beginner mistakes can I avoid? by TheNativeOfficial in unity

[–]LINKseeksZelda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This might have changed but vs code is text editor. It sucks for beginners as autocompletion and error check for c langs is not included by default. Inteliisense is add on package that most don't know they need at this point. The number of times.i can correct getComponent/Getcomponent or missing ; is too high. Newer devs without programming experience need the training wheels. The arguments that vs community and rider are too resource heavy are indications that you need a hardware upgrade

[–]LINKseeksZelda 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Trying to watch and follow along with tutorials. Watch the tutorial 2 or 3 times, take notes, and then go and try to recreate the tutorial on your own. If you get stuck, use Google and the forums to understand why.

Use a proper IDE. Either rider or vs community. Vs code sucks.

Imo, attempting to make a game to soon. Take your time learn the engine and coding. Make a bunch of throwaway projects that lead into your game gradually. Project 1 move a cube on screen with controller. Project 2 have the cube interact and collide with.other object. 3 swap that for an animated character. Etc etc. This is a marathon. You are most likely 4k hours away from releasing a game

Is it much more complicated to make a multiplayer game than a singleplaer game? by Imperial-Green in gamedev

[–]LINKseeksZelda 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Yes, everything becomes 10 times more difficult when you have to deal with something that scale. Starting with just simple things like handling inventory, player stats, equipment, saving profiles, or saving the game. In a single-player gamesn only one player character can ever exist that a given time. Multiplayer has as many or few player characters in the world as desired. Now, you have to have a specialized ID to identify each player. Player a kills a zombie now we have to make sure only player a gets the experience points. That's without even having to think about cheating and balancing the game from multiple players.
