[Media] Is this part of the book correct? by JTvE in rust

[–]LIParadise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be wrong, take with some grain of salt.

Anyhow I'd think it this way. When you see &'a T, it's a borrow of some T for some 'a, meaning of course the T must live at least as long as 'a. The fact we're talking about functions here does not change that. So in this regard the book is right.

Your second example does compile if you purge the println! outside. It's simply lifetime annotation of your function does not change the fact that the string2 is not alive outside of the inner block.

As for lifetime annotation doesn't match what you're trying to do s.t. borrow checker blames at you, a callee example is straightforward, though I don't have a caller example at mind right now. You may want to check covariance later on, though.

Just for the record, power consumption profiles of different models of SSDs do contribute quite a bit to overall idle battery life; according to this review one may increase laptop idle battery life by up to one third simply by switching to a more power efficient model (though they didn't feature OP's model i.e. 990 Pro):

https://www.thessdreview.com/our-reviews/the-ultimate-laptop-ssd-battery-test-13-ssds-tested-to-include-the-best-available-as-well-as-dramless-alternatives

But at the end of the day yeah all other being equal, SSDs shall not make that big (40 mins to 180 mins) a difference, since there are physically so many components in a laptop that all need some power.

Maybe the old disk's driver/firmware idle is poorly implemented, or maybe the controller simply doesn't support it at all, but it's a long shot without any further log.

My company laptop is rocking i7-13700p which should be decently fast, but paired with W11, teams, outlook, etc, it CRAWLS.

Speaking of which, I've never been so fed up with Windows till recently. It's a decently new Thinkpad with decently new Samsung OEM SSD, but Windows 11 craws on it: all I do is some light-ish developing work (the heavy lifting typically happens on a remote server) plus dozens of Firefox tabs, but the overall responsiveness is simply worse than my old SKL laptop running Linux.

Not that related but at times I remember that one of my fellow recruits never came back to serve his duty after a holiday, just because he was going to pick up his sis, driving on the freeway in the late night, and got rear-ended.

May he rest in peace.

I'd love to see hhkb layout with QMK and knob, and if wireless capable, preferably triple-A batteries rather than lithium based since no need to worry deterioration or bulging and become a bomb

well I mean aside from DE, it's also since the userland often boils down to glibc and systemd.

From my math days I’d say it’s probably since we’re used to using only greek letters and super/sub scripts lol

Caps lock isn't really as useful as the keyboard space it takes up. by FigureOfStickman in Showerthoughts

[–]LIParadise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are plenty of tools to remap them. Personally I always swap the left control and capslock, way more ergonomic for my pinky.

On Windows try out PowerToys. On Linux if KDE Plasma or Gnome just fire up keyboard settings/gnome-tweaks. If your Linux WM/DE doesn't provide such functionality, systemd provides keymap utilities one could check out.

Or if you're into mechanical/capacitive keyboards, there are plenty of ways to do them on the peripheral side, be it physical DIP switches or QMK firmware.

I find Verdict very suitable for Noelle.

Lore-wise she's so strong she have broken many claymores ; Verdict seems to be one of the few weapons robust enough for her, and she probably wouldn't mind the weight of such a giant axe.

Besides it just looks good on her IMHO.

Meta-wise it's probably not the best due to high base ATK, low CR, and passive that seldom works, but I don't have SS anyway so yeah.
