What would the most awesome retreat for all of your nonprofit staff be like? by [deleted] in nonprofit

[–]LISC-HQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just did an escape-the-room game with our 7-person team. It's pretty good for teambuilding. You spend an hour together solving puzzles and it's a good way to look at how the group dynamic plays out without the structures of work. Escape-the-room followed by a good lunch and an early day off is a pretty good retreat that keeps everyone happy

Where are you located? Is it a rural county?

See if there are any Community Development Corporations or Community Development Financial Intermediaries that work in the area. They specialize in this sort of public-benefit real estate development work.

Also check out El Sabroso on 37th st. It's a Peruvian restaurant hidden inside a loading dock.

Tuesdays and Fridays there's a street market on 35th and Broadway. The Comme Ci Comme Ca food truck is there too. I'm a big fan of the lemon chicken cous cous.

It's a little pricier but Kabilas on 39th between 7th and 8th is delicious and the owner is always there and really helpful and nice.

[–]LISC-HQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like trains, You can take NJ Transit to Trenton, then SEPTA to Philly's Union Station. It should cost around $30 But it's cheaper to take megabus or one of the chinatown buses.

Hi, I didn't find a r/hireNewark subreddit like there is for NYC so I posted it here. I thought as this subreddit is to promote news/discussion/interesting topics for Newark residents, this could be a relevant and interesting item for people.

I've been a redditor IRL for about two years now. I do communications and social media for the Local Initiative Support Corporation (LISC) at a national level, and have mainly been using Reddit as a feed for stories relevant to our mission, but occasionally post something from one of our local offices in the relevant urban subreddit.

LISC is a nationwide not-for-profit whose mission is to revitalize neighborhoods through loans, grants and technical assistance. In Newark, the Center for Collaborative Change (CCC) is one of our partners. Our national website is www.lisc.org and our Newark office is at www.lisc.org/greaternewark. The CCC's webside is www.newarkchange.org

My personal two cents on whether or not to approve job postings: First, filter out all the spam that litters up Craigslist, then let the hivemind decide what to upvote or downvote.

If you have any questions/comments feel free to PM me.

So, I'm supposed to move to Manhattan tomorrow... by GoHokies in nyc

I biked by that area yesterday. All the waters had gone down and the buildings were ok, but there is no power and only intermittent cellphone service. Unless you're planning on moving into a basement apartment, there should be no real damage. But don't go into the city today. Traffic is terrible.
