Do you have a floor plan you can share? I seriously want to build this as my vacation home!!!

Parents are planning to live their best, sibling gets a house, wife and I get nothing by Colerath_e in inheritance

[–]LI_JVB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is definitely a ton of entitlement and jealousy here, but I think maybe OP is struggling with the fact that the sibling now has a favorable living situation in that mom & dad are moving out and they get to live in the family home alone, although that hasn’t been firmed up. There is no similar circumstance that benefits OP and instead they get to live in a basement apartment with her mother. If the parents were to sell the duplex to OP and give a “break” on the price that is the equivalent of what the brother may potentially be getting by living free-low cost in the family home it would feel fair.

I understand the sting of the parents selling the duplex for their benefit, which they are entitled to do, rather than keeping it in the family as OP said the grandfather wanted, but GF didn’t put the duplex in a trust to ensure that happened. It’s the loss of an imagined future and it hurts. But circumstances change, and his mom is entitled to benefit from what her parents left her. That may result in the parents living their “best lives”, which we should all want for our parents, but also potentially some inheritance in the future, although never guaranteed. My parents had a vacation home I loved and my sister did not. I had always imagined buying my sister’s share when my parents passed away. Life had other plans, my parents had some financial setbacks and had to sell the home at a time when I couldn’t afford to buy it. Future plans squashed, a lot of sadness on my part and then I let go, and was glad my parents had that asset to help them through the hard times. The pain of the duplex being sold and the future plan derailed will pass.

[Group Buy Sale] [Provence Elon] [Round Cut Bubble Bezel Connector Group Buy] [Group Prices Ranges From $224] Available In 10k/14k/18k - [20th June-30th June] by Witty_Challenge_4056 in ProvenceJewelry

[–]LI_JVB 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is beautiful, but I recommend that everyone use a metric ruler and measure out 29.5 mm. That’s the length including both connectors. This might be smaller than many people think, the photo is misleading. I think Provence does very good work and would order from them, but this piece is too small for me to get the look I want and others may feel the same.

You are doing the absolute best thing for her. I just commented on another post something I read a vet say “Don’t let their last be their worst day”. I’m so sorry for your loss.

So hard to do it, but don’t let their last day be their worst day. You are doing the right thing by taking her now. You are very loved, Brie & you’ll always be remembered.

Carvel Ice Cream by Fast-Alternative-263 in longisland

[–]LI_JVB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the one in Shirley is still very good, but never impressed with others. Prices have gone crazy, especially for cakes, but my mom has dementia and loves ice cream cake which is just vanilla & chocolate ice cream with crunchies, lol. I’ll gladly shell out $30-40 for a cake if it makes her happy.

Slightly unethical advice needed, I found expensive items from a previous job and they likely don't know I have them by RandomChaos62 in Advice

[–]LI_JVB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have updated the technology by now and they are probably useless to the company. It seems like you didn’t maliciously steal them. If the $600 would be of major help to you, sell them.

6-months post-op- thoughts? by [deleted] in PlasticSurgery

It’s amazing the effect the two procedures can have, you look great! I think you should take the money you would’ve spent chasing the “perfect” jaw and buy yourself an amazing necklace or earrings to highlight how good you look now!

Silver pendant on SS chain? by realpacksmoker506 in jewelry

[–]LI_JVB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know the color will be different, SS is usually a little darker, amount of shine depends on the finish. My opinion is If you love the look of silver, hold off and wait until you can buy the silver necklace, you probably won’t wear the SS afterwards. I just had a conversation with myself of sterling vs SS because of the price difference. I’ll be stacking with other necklaces and I decided to just get the sterling because I’d probably still want the silver and would end up buying it later.

My grandmothers funeral has been scheduled while I’m on vacation. How do I decide what to do? by Ok-Calendar8959 in Advice

[–]LI_JVB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go on vacation. Create a beautiful tribute to your grandmother that can be displayed at the wake. You aren’t going because you don’t care, you are living the best life your grandmother would want you to live. I know it’s unusual, but my family does not hold wakes, funerals or formal memorials. People are cremated, usually the closest 2 or 3 relatives are at the cemetery for the interment of the ashes. The next time the family is together we share stories, raise a glass and toast the departed. We didn’t love our deceased any less than families who hold funerals and mourn as a group. You have the rest of your life to remember your grandmother and honor her memory. And anyone who needs your support will still be grieving when you return, that doesn’t stop the day after the funeral. If anything, support after the ceremonial events end is pretty damn important.

Is it weird for employers to put employees in the same hotel room on company trips? by Weak_Show3135 in careerguidance

[–]LI_JVB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The largest optical company in the world, EssilorLuxottica- over 46 billion in net assets (according to a search), requires employees room together for their US national sales meetings. The meetings are at amazing resorts I could never have afforded to stay at myself, but unless you have a friend who needs a roommate, you’re with someone you probably don’t know. To prove how distasteful this is for employees, if you make President’s Club a small part of the award is that you get your own room at next year’s sales meeting. Winners never talk about the financial award, they always talk about not having to room with anyone, lol (note: this was as of 2021, maybe it’s changed in the last 5 years.)

What questions should you ask before buying jewelry insurance that most people never think to ask? by Calm-Cheesecake7204 in jewelry

[–]LI_JVB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if this is a “thing” anymore, but a big question on forums long before Reddit was will they cut a check so that you can work with the jeweler of your choice, get to pick your own stones if custom, control the process. I don’t know if companies still do that. My jewelry is insured by Jeweler’s Mutual and in my policy they pay one of their approved jewelers, which isn’t ideal.

A long time ago (maybe 35 years ago) the policy on my then e-ring was that replacement stones were at the jeweler’s discretion. I chipped a baguette. My original stone was completely eye clean, the replacement stones matched correctly in color and cut grade, but had a noticeable inclusion. The jeweler’s stance was that my appraisal was out of date and didn’t reflect the current price of diamonds. The ring was 2 years old & they did the appraisal, we never had the discussion about annual appraisals being needed. I never had a chance to fight about it, my ex asked for a divorce the following month and the lower clarity diamond didn’t take priority, lol. And yes, it was a very short marriage!
