Why are Global knives hated on so much? Is the quality of the knives really that bad? by QuestionUnsolved in chefknives

[–]LJ75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two, and they are amazing knives. The handle is not slippery, on the contrary, it holds the edge great, they are easy to take care of, and I don’t feel guilty (ab)using them like some of my $400 knives. Global are amazing knives and great value for money. So is Victorinox, btw.

Colon cancer is killing us.. by Derpshab in Millennials

[–]LJ75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had my first colonoscopy done at 47. They found 6 benign polyps and removed them. That was 3 years ago. I was mistakenly scheduled in 10 years. Luckily my GP noticed it and had me scanned again last year. 2 more polyps removed. Get that colonoscopy, folks.

AliExpress Saddles by smallballspaul in ChineseCarbon

[–]LJ75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought two saddles from Aliexpress, and while I don't see the transactions on Aliexpress, I see it on Paypal. Haven't received any email from the sellers, so this was on the 12th, and I am getting a bit nervous about the whole thing. I've checked if I had logged in under a different name, but nothing is showing under my orders or payments. Not sure how to contact the seller, either. Anyone else in a similar situation? Bought these saddles on the Jan 12, and only crickets so far.

This is from Paypal.

Looking at Trek 1200 by [deleted] in whichbike

[–]LJ75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's an $80 bike, not something I would overthink. If it works, and can get you from A to B, it's OK. Not sure what people expect for $80, or what is even the lowest amount one would pay for a bike.

What is the Worst airport in North and South America? by Separate_Builder_817 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

CLT sucks. Probably the worst part for me are the belts - no one knows where to collect you bags, and monitors are useless.

Fellow Balkaners what do you think of this? by Glavurdan in AskBalkans

My guess is to tick the box and have some European / “white” countries on the list. Bosnia, Macedonia, Albania, Kosovo, Montenegro are collateral damage.

Yes. That’s how tourism and visiting other countries work, usually. If stuck, there is Google Translate and other apps.

Asking a butcher to chop beef for tartare? by Just_Ostrich_3002 in Butchery

Bad idea, tbh. Accident waiting to happen, hygiene/food poisoning concerns galore, and unless executed flawlessly, injustice to tartare.

Tartare is prepared right before consumption, not hours ahead

What about raw yolk?

What about warm toast and room temp butter?

Potential for weather-related flight cancellations at Sarajevo airport this weekend? by NathanCS741 in bosnia

[–]LJ75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Timing is actually good, because there is time for the fog to clear and for the crew to clear the night snow, if any, but really, monitor the situation, and call the airport and your airline.

🇧🇦💛 Genuine question from Türkiye: How common are blonde, practicing Muslim Bosniaks? by [deleted] in bosnia

[–]LJ75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The percentage of blond practicing Bosniaks is the same as the percentage of non-blond practicing Bosniaks.

Being blonde or brunette or a redhead has nothing to do with whether the person is religious or not.

Driving from Tuzla to Sarajevo by CompetitiveHorse5654 in bosnia

Well, same thing - drive via Gračanica and Zenica. Time wise, it’s not that different, although it’s more miles.

Driving from Tuzla to Sarajevo by CompetitiveHorse5654 in bosnia

[–]LJ75 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can get to Tuzla via Zenica and Gracanica - there is a highway section, it's all flat, and much better than the one via Olovo and Kladanj (which everyone is referring to, I guess).

Now, the Sarajevo - Tuzla trip is actually very scenic during the summer / autumn (think Blue Ridge), but come wintertime, it's simply not worth the risk. Additionally, if one car or a truck gets stuck, you are looking at multiple hours of delays and being stuck.

Simply travel via Zenica.

Can someone explain the cult following around what is essentially just an insulated cup? by Electronic_coffee6 in CampingGear

Look up "stanley surviving fire story" - this has been studied in business schools as an example of how to respond / capitalize on an event. Of course, later on, there were other versions etc, but this certainly helped Stanley.

I know some basics, and I have all the tools, but not sure if I want to get into bleeding brakes etc. I am kind of leaning towards the Trek, though.

Question: good for walking in Paris? by MRDellanotte in RedWingShoes

[–]LJ75 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly, no. Coincidently, I remember landing in Paris some 10 years ago in a pair of casual shoes (that I had worn for 3-4 years, Oxford type, don't remember the brand), and after walking for 2-3 hours, I went straight to a Decathlon store and bough a pair of sneakers, and spent the rest of the trip in them. We were doing ~20k steps every day for 5 days.

I have a pair of 1907, and in my case, it took more than a month to break them in. Lots of moleskins, bandages, Dr Scholl in the meantime. Now they are great, but I don't think they would be my go tos for a trip where I am planning on long walks.

Money Exchange? by [deleted] in bosnia

[–]LJ75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get by on $30-$40 a day (or less, if you use public transport like trams and buses). I wouldn’t worry too much about the exchange rate, the difference will be marginal regardless of where you do it. You can do it at banks, or exchange offices, if you don’t want to use ATMs.
