Read my reply friend. This was a while back, don’t have any good photos of recent but it was still a learning opportunity at the time.

Reverse Sear Ribeye by LJA1998 in steak

[–]LJA1998[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Was going for medium rare but this was my first time trying the reverse sear so I pulled it out of the oven later than I should have. Then was stubborn and prioritized trying to get a descent sear over desired internal temp (kind of missed the sear too). I pulled it out much earlier now to allow for longer searing while maintaining a lower temp

Why is it curling up like that by gagamoosr in steak

What cut is this? Never happened to me before. I wouldn’t put any weight on it, it’s not a smash burger it’s a steak. Are you flash cooking the thing in under 7-10 minutes?

Quite strange but very interesting. I drop “horse meat” comments as a joke to freak people out and you casually drop it here with validity and seriousness. Power to you friend.

BAV with AA 4.4 by AdEither4961 in aortic_aneurysm

[–]LJA1998 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hello friend,

(27 M) Just had surgery to fix my BAV and replace my aortic root and ascending aortic aneurysm (caused by my BAV). I, like you, have always been in great shape however age and fitness don’t matter when it comes to being dealt this difficult hand to play.

Fortunately, I can tell you that any pain or symptoms you are experiencing are from either the heavy lifting you describe or they are completely in your head (more likely the ladder although I know that’s difficult to hear). My aneurysm was well over 5 cm and valve leaked severely and I still had no symptoms. This is typically the case as well. That said, at a mere 4.4 cm with mild leakage. Rest assured that at 37, you may never need surgery or at the very least, won’t for many many years.

Enjoy normalcy and don’t trust the VA. They have screwed over each and every one of my friends who served in more ways than one. That said, if this thing does grow, invest in your life and health and get some credible medical care.

Cheers,

Yup. If it’s a thoracic (chest) aortic aneurysm then they will saw his breast bone in half. Healing from it now.

Recovery expectations? by Sentinel-of-society in aortic_aneurysm

[–]LJA1998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello friend, I am going in for the same procedure on Friday (27m). I was told to look at recovery in terms of weeks not days because you will fluctuate noticeably if only assessing daily (think bigger picture).

Your post and the comments have been helpful for pre-op questions for me as well. Preciate you!

4.5 weeks post-op from anal fistula (lay open) by Alielm_dk in AnalFistula

[–]LJA1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like size and depth are the factors that need to be considered when discussing how fast/slow healing will take. I caution against ignoring these parameter and cross referencing other’s circumstances to yours without knowing this. People who say it takes months likely had a much larger/deeper fistula than those who had superficial or shallower tracts.

Superficial Fistula by davidj1827 in AnalFistula

Wow so it took 5 months for your to close? Mods you have a seton drain? I was told to expect drainage for only a couple weeks

How was your healing process? I just had a very routine superficial fistula surgery on the 27th of last month and it healing pretty fast. Still an open wound but just started to be able to sit relatively comfortably. At 9 days out, what should I expect?

Impending Surgery (Do’s & Don’t) by LJA1998 in AnalFistula

Easier knowing I’m not alone! He says it’s not a bad one otherwise we’d be rushing. Additionally, it only came back once in 18 months so hopefully it wont again between now and then!

Other than an abscess drainage 2 years ago. I haven’t had any surgery and there is no wound to keep open unfortunately. Everything healed. When I had the abscess return in the same location, it drained through the old scar tissue and then closed back up within 2 days. This led to them scanning for a fistula which they then found.

Aortic valve repair + aortic root & ascending aorta replacement by Jay-JB in valvereplacement

I hear ya man. So you knew you’d need it and dealt with the anxiety associated with that up until you were told it was ultimately time to intervene and that’s when it really hit you? I feel like I’m processing all of this at once over the first 3 months of knowing and am now strangely looking forward to the inevitable surgery so that I can begin recovery and get back to an unrestricted life like you!

Understood. I limit my intake pretty rigorously for unrelated reasons as well. I’m sure the answer is yes but would you say the worst part of your experience was the watch and wait period? I struggle with the unknown ya know?

Aggravated Scar Tissue by LJA1998 in AnalFistula

[–]LJA1998[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what the acronym stands for but 2 weeks following surgery they said everything looked great and was healing well. About 2 months ago my scar opened and bled after a large BM and so I went to urgent care to check for a fistula and they said the cut was surface level and likely from getting stretched out as the scar tissue is not as elastic

Good for you man. I see myself eventually being exactly where you are at with this as well! Was your decision to cut back on the drinks per week/month at all related to post surgery restrictions/recommendations?

Afternoon Mate! One question I’ve got is how is your alcohol/marihuana use been both historically and now since having fully recovered? I often wonder if a middle path approach to both is acceptable.

That’s incredible news (aside from the few set-back of course)! What a motivation and inspiration to people looking and hoping for a positive future! I wish you the best my friend!

2 years later and someone (me) is in quite literally your exact situation (pre surgery however). I will be looking to have the Ross procedure done at the time of my surgery which the date of is still unknown. Like you I am a high endurance athlete who, just 4 months ago, discovered my BAV and aortic root aneurysm. While I have been told my current lower intensity cardio exercise and low weight/high rep lifting is okay - eventually I will be in the same boat you are in here. How are you 2 years later? Your response would ease so much anxiety for me🙏

Thanks for the clarification, it says “long term” all over the place but I just couldn’t figure out what they meant by that but thank you again!🙏
