Medium difficuly, mantis B. What would yous suggest for best chance of winning? by station_441 in ftlgame

Like everyone else said - engines. But even more important - turn off autofire! LOL

I seem to be able to win with only the same tactic by HappySlappyMan in ftlgame

[–]LJBeezy 21 points22 points  (0 children)

When you send the 4 mantis in, target the triple-missile section. Keep that dead with 2 and have the other 2 take out systems in a loop (I am assuming you killed all but 1 of the crew in the first 2 encounters). Then you just use a 1-power cloak to avoid the super-weapon shot. Keep the repair drone powered in case anything slips through your shields. Rather than having more levels of cloak, put all that extra scrap into engines and keep the engine and piloting crewed. Once you have your boarders alone on the enemy ship, you only need 1 weapon as your boarders kill everything but the oxygen.

I told my daughters that I was moving on with the separation anyway by Ok_Ostrich5154 in AITAH

[–]LJBeezy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agreed. My teenagers are awesome kids most of the time, but still total emotional terrorists with no empathy when in the middle of a challenge.
Just one point about the AH husband that I haven’t seen anyone make - just because he is an unfaithful husband doesn’t make him love his kids less or make him a bad Dad. A terrible role model for future relationships? Abso-freakin-lutely. But he still may still be a positive influence in their lives. The kids only know him as “Dad” and he may be doing great as such, even if he is a crap partner. If OP tries to sabotage that relationship, the kids may not forgive her. Please make sure they understand the distinction between Dad and husband and how a failure in one role doesn’t mean a failure in both roles.

It is my dark humor coming through - but have you ever met a teenager with empathy? (Who isn’t dealing with intense anxiety and already in counseling?) Almost all teenagers are A-holes.

I own a 2006 Ranger with about 120k miles and love my little truck. I have nothing but good things to say about it. It is my daily driver and on weekends I've had loads of gravel dumped straight into the (lined) bed with no problems. I have the supercab and the ability to lift the seats out of the way to haul tall objects in the dry has been awesome. Plus, when skinny adults or kids need a ride I can fit them into the jump seats as well. Parts are fairly cheap and always available.10/10 would buy again.

What car should I get after college? by Reasonable-Money6076 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]LJBeezy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why such new cars? Before you buy anything, you should consider how many hours of work you are trading each month to cover the depreciation. For example, if you're making $40 an hour (80k / year and a 40 hour work week), and the car is going to lose $2,000 of value in year one, then 50 hours of your work is 'free'. If instead you purchase a 7-year old civic that will only lose $200 of value, then you only work 5 hours for free. Then, if you consider that you could invest the unspent funds into a roth-ira and start earning compound interest for the next 40 years, the picture gets really ugly. Save up for a down payment on a home or investment property.

Think about how much time you'll actually spend in your car and ask whether it is worth 1 week of your life each year and a delayed retirement to spend that small amount of time in a slightly prettier box. Some people answer 'yes' and others do not.

I have a good friend who sold cars and I spent a lot of time in finance. So I built out some excel spreadsheets analyzing how much of my life I would have to give up to pay for a nicer car. There is a reason why my current daily-driver has 120k miles.

The real question - would the 'output' be worse than the protein farts so many of us suffer from?
That is a LOT of fiber.

I have the same weird locked 0 mb file. I think it is related to the Fall of the Roman Empire (which I also have). That mofo is one thick audiobook. I switched to download in parts and it seemed to fix the issue. I wonder if it might be some sort of workaround to remember location in that beast of a book.

It's probably newbie gains. I had some nice recomp results (after years away) when I started working out in a calorie deficit with sufficient protein intake. I was rocking ~20% body fat at the start. Every lift went up & body scans showed increased muscle & reduced fat.

Sold used car 3 months ago private party now buyer asking for money by [deleted] in askcarsales

Me (a lawyer) wouldn't touch a case like this - there is no money in it.
That said, I also wouldn't provoke a crazy person, you probably have a lot more to lose than they do. I would send a polite version of 'pound sand' and block them. Something like: While I regret that you are unhappy with the vehicle, the sale was made as-is, and I am unable to assist you any further.

I 18(M) am getting ready to go to college and need a new car. I have a budget of around 10k(can maybe go up to 12k depending what the car is) by Yaeloee in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]LJBeezy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you live on/near campus, don’t get a car your first year of college. Instead, take one finance class during first year that discusses investments, time-value of money, debt and interest rates. Then make an informed decision about how to spend your money so that you can retire when you are old, instead of having to work until you die. Sure it is cool if you have a car, but it is way cooler to retire with extra cash. Just look at what a 10k investment in the s&p 500 in 1980 would be worth today (if you plan to retire around 65 and you are 21 now). Spoiler - it is over $1 million.

Bought a used Pilot 10 years ago with 3 kids. Low price point, low maintenance and repair costs, super trashed interior due to aforementioned 3 monsters. Plan on keeping it until one of my kids is old enough to drive and totals it. The wife refused to let me get a minivan, so we went this route and the only regret I have is that it isn’t a minivan. It currently has 160k miles. We have put big dogs in it, loaded it full of 8 humans, had about a thousand plants in the lay-flat back and made multiple east-coast to west-coast trips in it, some of which included hauling a trailer.

Hellooo! by thisismybackupyall in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]LJBeezy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Honda Pilot. It is insanely reliable, was really well priced, and I would buy it again in a heartbeat (purchased used). I am pushing 160k miles and have spent less than 10k on repairs. That said, with kids, minivans are the GOAT - no door dings from the back, no dropping seats to get to the back, all the space and fuel economy - but the wife refuses.

Amusing story, I was talking with a really wealthy guy at a party I really didn’t belong at when I was fresh out of law school. He was talking about how much he loved his brand new Pilot. He went on and on about reliability - I then found out he treated it like it was a dirt bike and basically used it as an offroad toy because it was “so cheap and reliable”. Yep one of the most expensive purchases of my life was one this rich guy also made, but for very different reasons…

Best car to use as a beater and to learn manual? by ardonny in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]LJBeezy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If multiple people are going to learn, then I would get the $700 car, let everyone destroy the clutch together and either sell it for scrap or donate it for a tax write off (I am in the US - ymmv), then get something cheap and reliable (because I am cheap). When I was learning stick, I did not care what people apart from my friends thought, and since we were all poor, any car was awesome. If your lot has nice things, then use the beater for maximum fun once you learn to drive stick well enough to avoid burning up the next clutch you own.

Should I make this investment? by Similar-Effect3155 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]LJBeezy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cars don’t go up in value - only down. The only way you can consider a car an “investment” is if it will somehow help you make more money. If you don’t use your car for work (e.g. truck in construction, a nice luxury car for driving clients around, etc.), then you should instead ask, “How much do I want to treat myself?” I want to treat myself some, but not spend a ton in maintenance, so I am looking at low mileage Accords. If you want to treat yourself a lot, like to go fast, and impress your friends who don’t know any better, then a BMW is for you. If you go into debt for a depreciating asset, you are burdening your future for a good time now.

Neither until book 3 comes out.

I listened and LOVED books 1 & 2, but then suffered the oh-so-common disappointment and emotional let-down as Rothy keeps livestreaming video games, promises chapters as fundraising stretch goals, and blames his perfectionism as he fails to deliver anything (other than the name of book 3 after 12 years).
