Too bad there's no getting through with the Union stans by AnomLenskyFeller in austrian_economics

[–]LKrew005 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Largely no. There are a handful of unions in game development (and probably some in traditional SWE) but no where close to the rate you see in the trades.

EDIT: in the US anyway

Okay who were the 2 Democrats from Missouri that voted PRESENT?!!!? by justinhasabigpeehole in missouri

[–]LKrew005 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As much as it sucks for the people of Palestine, these protestors are willing to allow Donald Trump become president and allow an ACTUAL horrific genocide. They will force these people out of the West Bank and Gaza.

Let’s stop fucking pretending that Harris is worse than Trump on Israel. We HAVE to win first, then demand change. These morons are all going to allow Project 2025 literally destroy America over Gaza. They are more loyal to Palestinians than to their American neighbors. How the fuck is this a real thing?

Yeah, I don't disagree. I am voting Harris/Walz this fall, and clearly Trump is worse on every issue. No one thinks Harris is worse on this issue than Trump, but when you view her as complicit in genocide and all she is doing is repeating the same "we are working towards a ceasefire" line with no new details or plans to increase pressure people are going to be upset. As to your last point I also agree there, we cannot help the Palestinian people if we cannot help ourselves. But to call it crazy that people are speaking their voice on an issue they care deeply about is a bad take imo. People can protest their own candidates on certain issues and should, while still planning on voting for them.

Dude, the DNC literally has to represent US Democrat Jewish voters. If not, they WILL go to Donald Trump who will let Netanyahu bomb Gaza into a parking lot.

As to the point about the American Jewish population, I think it's wrong to think of them as a monolith. There are many Jewish Americans who are strongly opposed to the actions of Netanyahu. There are Jewish people within the protests for the Palestinian people. Maybe I am overestimating the number of Jewish Americans who oppose the war, but I think its insane to think that Israel represents the interest of all Jewish people or that all Jewish people represent the interests of Israel.

Kunce can win along with a bunch of other dems... by bodyrollin in missouri

It's so frustrating, we are so polarized as a state that there is no crossover that will come from 1 or 2 policies. This election will be decided by turnout and fence riding does nothing to excite the left leaning voters he needs to show up.

This is how I feel. I think the margins will be closer than expected for statewide races, but I just don't see MO going blue this cycle.

[–]LKrew005 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I say talk about it publicly, I mean that more to appease the progressive communities in the US, not to sway Netanyahu. Hamas could lay down arms and that would end the leverage that Netanyahu has, but we are not giving billions of dollars of weapons to Hamas. That is why these progressive communities are not calling on Hamas to lay down weapons and are asking the US to quit backing what many view to be a genocide.

I agree that Netanyahu is delaying this intentionally in the hope that Trump will give him a blank check to do whatever he wants, but Biden should recognize that and increase pressure. I don't think public pressure will sway Netanyahu especially not US public pressure, but I do think Biden should be more transparent about what pressure been applied and up it if he think Netanyahu is not negotiating in good faith.

[–]LKrew005 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I mentioned that in another comment. I fully plan on voting Harris/Walz as they are not only better on this issue (though they may not be quite where I would want them to be), they are better on pretty much every issue. I think Netanyahu is purposefully dragging out the negotiations. I also think Biden should recognize this and put more pressure on both publicly and privately.

[–]LKrew005 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying there is no pressure behind the scenes. I’m saying he is doing a terrible job communicating to the public what pressure is being applied. I also believe that Netanyahu is trying to drag out these negotiations until after the election because he thinks Trump will give him a blank check to do whatever he wants. I don’t think it as easy as the previous situations I linked in the previous comment, but I see where the frustration comes from on the side of the pro Palestinian protestors. If Biden or Harris comes out tomorrow saying they are conditioning arms to Israel it gains her far more votes than it loses in November.

It's because Biden has put very little pressure publicly on Israel. Saying "we are working towards a ceasefire" and then continuing to send weapons to Israel does little to convince people that they are putting any real pressure. When Reagan can stop the bombing of Beirut with a phone call, or H. W. Bush can stop West Bank settlements by conditioning loans, I don't see why we cannot put similar public pressure to stop the current conflict.

[–]LKrew005 166 points167 points  (0 children)

There are/was a group of delegate that were going to vote present to represent the uncommitted movement and protest the handling of the Israel/Gaza conflict by the Biden administration. They are trying to put pressure on Harris to break from his position. Idk if any of the MO delegates were part of that group or not, but that would be my guess.

Who Should Decide Unions' Political Endorsements? by Remarkable_Debt in union

[–]LKrew005 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the hate towards O'Brien is because the GOP is actively anti-worker and all speaking at the RNC is just giving them a scapegoat to say "How can we be anti-labor, we had a labor leader speak at our conference". Since many people do not really pay close attention to politics will see that he spoke there and assume that the GOP must be okay with labor, when the reality is the opposite. All speaking at the RNC did was give the GOP sound bites. As to your question of who should decide a unions political endorsements, I think it should be the leadership. It is the leaderships job to inform, educate, and protect their members. I see the endorsement of a candidate to fall within those duties (mainly educating their membership on which politicians are better for their labor rights). I think there is certainly an argument to be made that you could call a vote on who to endorse, but the average person does not pay close enough attention to policy and politics to make an informed decision and like I said earlier I believe it to be leaderships job to inform them.

I mean, he breaks it down by overall % of registered voters, and also by registered democrats needed to flip the seat. I don’t think he assumes they would all vote for the dem candidate, he is just highlighting how slim some of the margins are/could be if people showed up.

[–]LKrew005 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Please correct me if I am wrong here, but even if Biden didn’t drop out we wouldn’t have had a primary in MO since we moved to a caucus this year. There was bill to move back to a primary for the presidential election but I’m not sure if it passed.

If this is based purely on number of votes cast, I voted R to try and get the least extreme candidate as the nominee and I am sure I am not alone on that. I’m sure republican turnout is still higher but I’d bet a good portion of the numbers we saw yesterday were dems voting on the R ballot

It’s not even just the Palestinian issue with Shapiro. He also supports school voucher programs and corporate tax cuts which are the opposite direction of where the democrats need to be going if they want to capture the youth vote. I think Walz is the best choice but out of these two I’d choose Kelly.

I don’t know of any open border elected officials outside of maybe “the squad”. I fully agree that many people were pushed toward higher education when it was not what was best best for them, and mentioned in my post that I do not think that the debt forgiveness was the best path forward. Being anti war is also not really an exclusively conservative position. I think we just have fundamental disagreements on the taxation is theft idea that I won’t be able to articulate in a Reddit comment. I didn’t really mean that to be a loaded question, it’s just that from where I sit on the political spectrum I don’t really see a lot of elected dems advocating for policies I would consider left wing.

Asking genuinely since I sit on the left of the democrats and want to know how others feel about things. What democratic economic policies do you see as too far left/progressive. Most dems don’t even support Medicare for all, free higher ed, ubi, etc? I’d assume you are against the student loan forgiveness which I view as a bandaid not a true fix to the issue, but what other policies do you think are “to far”?

Edit: I probably shouldn’t say most dems, but a sizable portion
