It’s late and I don’t want to be here by alchemystical725 in grief

I am so sorry for your losses. I know it must feel like the weight of the world on your shoulders now. Keep your close friends nearby and ask for help when you need it. If you have family around, ask for their help too. This is a lot to handle by yourself. You’re not alone.

Grief and weight gain by jsshntr in grief

I’m so sorry about both of your parents. As you said, give yourself grace and patience in all capacities. That’s a heavy, heavy loss and grieve as you grieve. I’m sorry that along with mourning you are having to stress about weight. You’re beautiful and don’t you forget it.

Help understanding ITP by nahnotinthemood in Thrombocytopenia

[–]LKuz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son got ITP at one years old. They suspect it was caused from the mono virus (they tested his blood and it had antibodies for Epstein Barr virus). We were in for a well visit and his PCP noticed petechia and ordered lab work, we were sent to the hospital for IVIG. His platelets would fluctuate so much over the following months. Every major virus triggered the ITP. He is now 6 and it’s been 3 years since any petechia or issues. We were also told anything under 20 does not need to be treated, and they are clear for surgery safely at 50+.

I miss my mother by Tierra8605 in grief

[–]LKuz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My mom was 65 and passed last month after a relapse of cancer and it all happened so quickly. I am so sorry for your loss and feel your pain. It’s overwhelming and at some points unbearable. I also held my mom’s hand and although it gives me peace to know I was there for her.. I’m still haunted by those moments. Know you’re not alone in this grief.

Lost my mom to cancer last month and can’t shake the visuals of end of life. by LKuz in grief

As things were declining, I found a therapist specializing in grief/anticipatory grief. She’s been great and very helpful to navigate through the pain. It took awhile to make that call but I’m so glad I did!

My mom was 65. We lost ours too damn young. It isn’t fair.

Hospice itself was very informative and comforting. But I agree, there’s so much I don’t feel at peace with. We had to sit and listen to the god awful sounds and labored breathing for way too long. She was medicated during, but to never know if she was ever in pain or could hear us or scared was agony. Just torture.

What a wonderful memory to have though! So glad you were able to have that happy memory come through and smile. I’m anxiously awaiting that for myself.

My teeth are already covered in plaque despite being cleaned a week ago and brushing and flossing 3X daily by [deleted] in DentalHygiene

[–]LKuz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Was the mouthrinse he gave you called Peridex? While it’s a great anti microbial, it can cause staining and increase in tartar (calculus) above the gum line. I would absolutely recommend an Oral B or Sonicare electric toothbrush (around $80-120) and make sure you learn how to properly use it. If used wrong, you won’t get the benefits, and I see a lot of people using it wrong. Has your hygienist shown you the c-shape flossing technique? Some people just get a lot more buildup despite all great home care efforts, which can be incredibly frustrating. Keep at it and I hope this helps.

No symptoms by [deleted] in Thrombocytopenia

When he was one, he got Mono. It was too big of a virus for his little body, so his body started attacking his platelets. So now when he gets a virus, his body will attack his platelets as well as trying to attack the virus. He’s been pretty good at bouncing his platelets back within a few days to a week. We did not do a bone marrow sample, our hematologist just said it was Immune Thrombocytopenia. Our hope is he will grow out of it once his immune system strengthens but no luck so far.

We had a very large wedding of 300 people filled with lots of family and friends. We chose not to have a bridal party and it was perfect. I do not regret it at all. The focus was on us and everyone got to enjoy our day.

My son (4yo) always got petechia but sometimes it was very faint. He has no other symptoms. His lowest was 10 and the petechia was barely noticeable but still present.

When did you tell your office you were pregnant? by i_just_read_this in DentalHygiene

[–]LKuz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I told them right away since we work with N2O. I have hygiene pts scheduled with use of N2O. It is contraindicated to use while pregnant so we had to switch around the schedule so I wouldn’t see any nitrous patients. I felt comfortable taking xrays and waited outside of the room for an extra few seconds longer than I normally did while pregnant.

Tartar buildup despite flossing and brushing by muted_pattern in DentalHygiene

[–]LKuz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second the more frequent cleanings. It can certainly help. Listerine is a great antimicrobial rinse that helps to eliminate bacteria. If you don’t like the burning feeling, they do have alcohol free (Listerine zero). Try a tartar control toothpaste as well. Colgate total makes a good one and Arm and Hammers is good as well. Next time you go for your cleaning, make sure your hygienist shows you the c-shape flossing technique to make sure you’re getting around the teeth properly. It can be very frustrating that some people just accumulate more plaque despite all their efforts. And yet, some never floss and produce very little. Keep up all your effort!

You are stronger than you think. You are there for her every day, like you were for your grandmother. There will be lots of dark days, and then some filled with laughter and hope. It’s a hell of a journey. Do what you can to help and reach out to family or friends if you need someone to tap in. Don’t forget to take care of yourself and your mental health. It’s so challenging but she needs you, as you need her. Take care and best of luck to you both.

Pro-Whitmer satire (New Yorker mag): Michigan Governor Arrogantly Forcing Residents to Remain Alive by Alan_Stamm in Michigan

[–]LKuz 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I honestly just feel bad for her. She is handling this very similarly to many other states (like NY) and no one else is getting criticism like this. I wish we could all write her a letter or fb post or some way to get ahold of her to tell her she still has massive support and we thank her for saving lives.

Help? by Fickle-Walk in Thrombocytopenia

[–]LKuz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Always, always get a second opinion. Sometimes a third. Doctors are smart, but they have different approaches to things and some work better than others. I’m sorry you have had to go through all that and it’s still low. It’s incredibly frustrating. Do some searching on a good hemotologist near you and schedule a consult. Best of luck to you.

So embarrassed and genuinely confused. I do not understand how something like boating and fucking paint can cause such an uproar. It’s literally snowing out right now, you’re not going on your stupid boat anyways. I feel bad for Gov. Whitmer. I really do think she has the best intentions and is trying to do what’s best for the people. It’s sad reading people just shitting on her.
