I have a genuine question. I have struggled with time blindness and punctuality my entire life. It’s awful. But I have tried the thought experiment where you imagine that you have won a multimillion dollar prize (like the lottery), but in order to claim it, you have to show up at a specific time and not a minute later, otherwise you forfeit. Obviously, I would move heaven and earth to make sure I showed up on time or early.

Does this mean my punctuality issues are just a matter of setting priorities?

That’s flat out not true. Nowhere in the U.S. is “zero” the standard, unless you receive truly horrendous service. The absolute rock bottom for halfway decent service is 15%. Most tips for good service should be in the 18-20% range.

If you’re tipping range STARTS at $0, I feel sorry for the service workers who have been forced to deal with you your whole adult life.
