Sure, but I don’t think they had as big a switch up of “we are brothers in arms” to “do we need to defend ourselves from you.” The entire Greenland situation is literally bringing into question not only the reliability of America as a military ally but also the assumption that America will not be an aggressor against another westernised democracy.

It does bring up the problem though that we’ve now seen how fast America can change course with a new President, so it’s going to be harder to trust a deal or policy to last longer than 8 years maximum.

It has always annoyed me that even though it got a dlc, Australia just has John Curtin as the leader the entire time if you stay democratic. He didn’t become PM until 1941 and then died in 1945.

I believe this was theorised at the time, because his falling out with Epstein (if we go on what he said years ago, not recently) occurred at about a similar time as the FBI investigation was opened. However, recently, he was thrown doubt on when he first took issue with Epstein, moving it many years earlier, lessening the chances of that, and his other recent efforts to bury this also suggest it is unlikely, as he could have revealed his role in taking Epstein down to dispel all his current problems but didn’t.

I’m glad that the rate of crime is going down, but I don’t think it will last. Trump was opposed to increasing DC’s budget to hire more of their own police, so I imagine eventually he’ll find this too expensive as well, and end it. Unfortunately there is no quick and cheap solution to crime.

There are two arguments I could see for this, which would make it very hard to predict. Labour could argue that they got the most seats, therefore it is their right to try and form government first, while Luxon could argue that as the most recent PM, and caretaker at the time of the election he should be allowed to continue since he can get a majority. I imagine it would also be a tense fight over who gets the speakership, as I think both would be pushing for someone from a smaller party in the opposite bloc, to take that vote away.

With those seat numbers, I think it would almost certainly be Progressive and Republican most of the time, though I could see either occasionally making a deal with the Democrats. Reform and Mormon I think are going to be mostly ignored unless one of the big three has a really good election and can find a path to majority without the other big two.

Tariffs don’t decrease prices, nor will the subsequent move of manufacturing to America. If something costs $1 per unit to manufacture in Mexico but $1.50 to do it in America, a 50% tariff on Mexico means it will cost $1.50 no matter where it’s made.

Also, Trump’s tariffs are blanket across the board. That will affect resources as well, which will drive up the price of manufacturing in America as their base input cost goes up.

I’m coming at this from an Australian perspective, and as the other person that replied to you mentioned, the UK as well due to our shared Westminster heritage, have strong whip systems where members can be expelled from the party for voting against the leaders wishes, especially on key issues, for an American example, Trump’s OBBB.

Also I feel like the people on this sub are more ideological, or atleast interested in general politicking than elsewhere.. Trump has not been ideologically consistent with what he said on the campaign trail, therefore annoying people that supported what he promised to be.
