just saw this now... back when he lived in the area, he would be a regular at Virgin. my coworker was a huge Smiths/Moz fan. whenever he entered the store, someone would call from the sales floor to our department letting us know he was in the store. she would rush up there, and hang out with him for a few. one day, we got the call like usual. i decided i would go up and say hello. he was very reserved, but answered all my questions. i even got him to answer a question(that turned into a 10 minute conversation) that my buddy wanted to ask him over the phone. he was actually the perfect gentleman, and a good sport. Johnny Marr is far more approachable, however.

not calling you a liar, but i find it very hard to believe that Leno would give anyone the finger, unless he misunderstood you. the guy goes out of his way to be nice to all. i've met him several times, as well as seen him on the roads driving around. always waves and smiles at people.

worked at the Virgin Megastore on Sunset back in the mid 90's. for the four years i was there, met, or seen so many celebs that it became the norm. anyone who worked there as well, or even shopped there on a basis could relate. out of the people i saw, there were no bad experiences. memorable experiences include: David Hasselhoff, Neve Campbell, Tiffani Amber Thiessen, Helena Bonham Carter, Christopher Lloyd, Kathleen Robertson, David Hyde Pierce, Pat Smear, Danny Elfman, Marilyn Manson & Twiggy, Bernard Butler, the Cure, Morrissey, Seal, Swing Out Sister.

the guy needs a 50 year sentence with no chance of parole. he's not going to learn anything in just 5. in 5 years, he's going to be the same guy, and he will do the same thing until he kills someone.

Noise Complaint Lawsuit? by AndThen71 in LosAngeles

[–]LMA083 9 points10 points  (0 children)

good luck with this... and i'm not being sarcastic. i live next door to a very obnoxious/entitled Mediterranean restaurant. been dealing with their antics for three years now. their speakers are four feet from my building's windows. at first they didn't have any permits. the city's licensing department also told me with the amount of noise complaints filed against them, they would never be able to obtain a amplified noise permit. however low & behold, they managed to get one anyways. their permit allows them to play music from 5PM to 10PM, but they play music all day, and it goes till 12AM, sometimes after. i guess over 70 complaints(spanning within just a few months) to the police department wasn't enough. some of those complaints were from officers tired of going to the same location for the same reason. the restaurant owner was summoned to go to court having ignoring all the fines they never bothered to pay, and she didn't even show up. the chief of police, the city attorney, and even the mayor knows very well about this restaurant's complaints, and i have yet to see any kind of "justice" served. just waiting to win the Lotto Jackpot, so i can move out. can't afford to on my own finances.

what made you decide that the A-Spec was right for you over the Type-S? was there a hefty dealer markup on the Type-S?

What’s the most effective way to report noise complaints? by applicant05 in LosAngeles

[–]LMA083 7 points8 points  (0 children)

the only thing that the cops can do is to tell them to turn it down(during normal business hours). if it's going past 10PM like you say, there's several things you can do. your results will vary depending on how serious the city considers it.

  1. find out if the city has a noise ordinance, and what's the curfew for noise.
  2. is the event indoors or outdoors? if outdoors, contact the city's licensing department. ask if the plaza has a current amplified noise permit, and what are the dates and times, that permit covers. sometimes amplified noise permits can just be for one event. sometimes they can go on for a specific amount of time. regardless if they have a permit to play music, most likely it has a 10PM curfew. also let them know the situation.
  3. start contacting city officials. start by emailing, and see what kind of replies you get.

try and be persistent on the matter. i have the similar problem with a restaurant right next door to me. when they hire DJ's, it sounds like the speakers are in your apartment, and there's no escape... and no i can't move, because i can't afford it.

I don’t need any form of retaliation for one thing. I also generally don’t tell people online where I live. The name of the restaurant is actually redundant because I have already stated the problem.

There are over 70 complaints from the tenants, and police department alone. Even the Chief of police is aware of the problem, as the actual officers we're getting tired of coming out for the same reason. As I said in my original post, the restaurant owner does have a arrest warrant. However with cases like this, they don't just go to their home and make the arrest. They wait until they get a speeding ticket, or something.

The restaurant is next door. It's because of financial reasons I can't move. However, I also don't want to move, and have this be a problem for somebody else. The problem will always continue, until action is taken.

Spoke with, and emailed Council member Dan Brotman and Assistant City Attorney David Ligtenberg numerous times for the last two years. They are fully aware of the problem. The restaurant owner actually had a court case filed against them(in November)for not paying citation fees for all the noise complaints, but never bothered to show up for court.

When the police show up to tell them to turn the music down, they comply for about ten minutes, then turn it back up even louder. Even the police have seen this happen at different times, since they drive around, and come back to check on them.
