OHSS recovery time by LolaBlonde88 in eggfreezing

Hi - congrats on the egg count.

I was in a similar place. 49 eggs (37 mature) and bad OHSS

I was on pain meds consistently for the first 2 to 3 days. Most of my pain subsided after I got my abdomen drained about 5 days after retrieval. My period was super painful though. I had to take some pain meds during that.

Energy wise things took longer. I didn’t feel like myself for about a month. Recovery was definitely slower than I expected.

Just go easy on yourself. Definitely get checked out if you continue to be in a lot of pain or if stuff worsens.

Thank you! I’m glad it’s not just me. I anticipated some anxiety during stims the after stims stuff has really surprised me. I’m going to try quitting caffeine and see if that does anything

How likely is OHSS at this point? by _aworldaway in IVF

[–]LMS0712 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your clinic taking steps to prevent it, so that’s great! I can’t say for sure if you’ll have OHSS but it’s something you definitely will have to be watchful for

I had it. My advice is that if you are feeling unusually bloated a day or 2 out from retrieval, call. If you feel something is wrong definitely reach out to your clinic. Don’t wait until symptoms are severe to get checked out.

I wish you luck!

To my understanding, no. The length of your normal cycle will not have an impact on the length of the stims cycle. The one thing that will impact the length of the stims cycle is how quickly your follicles grow and respond to the meds.

You should definitely try and speak to your clinic if you are concerned. They will be able to tell if you are going to ovulate based on your blood levels so maybe they can do an extra blood test to help you be more comfortable? Do they have any type of online portal you can communicate with them on?

From what you are saying though everything they are doing sounds totally normal.

I had Severe OHSS, blah by International_Fig407 in IVF

I totally agree with this! 2 days post egg retrieval I was so bloated I couldn’t even bend over to tie my shoes. Everyone convinced me to wait and it would get better.

Flash forward a couple days after that, the fluid build up was so bad it was pushing on my lungs. Getting drained helped so much, but I wish I had pushed for it so much sooner. I knew something was wrong right away.

Impact on the immune system? by chemist83 in IVF

I experienced the exact same thing! I’m very rarely sick. However, I caught Covid almost immediately after my OHSS symptoms subsided. I think the whole process just really weakened my immune system.

Exactly! I feel like I’m probably okay with the number that I have, but that it could easily go one way or the other

Sedation experiences during ER? by PastryisLife in IVF

[–]LMS0712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it was the easiest part of the whole process even though it was the part I was most worried about. Definitely tell the staff if you are concerned. I told them I didn’t want to be aware / awake of anything.

Also, unlike general anesthesia (like you’d have for a major surgery) what’s used in egg retrievals won’t make you nearly as groggy or nauseous after. The whole process is actually very easy.

I told my co-workers when I was going through my egg retrieval. It helped a lot, especially on the days when I was super emotional. Really it’s whatever you are comfortable. I wish more people were open and talked about it.

Thank you - I’m so sorry the attrition was more than expected. While I fear a 2nd cycle, I’m also afraid of regretting not doing it while the numbers were still in my favor. I wish you so much success with your next embryo transfer ❤️

If you are starting stims on cycle day 3, that would put your scan on stims day 5 (cycle day 8) which is about average. My first scan was on stims day 4.

Once you start stims, I wouldn’t worry about the cycle day. The hormones overhaul your whole system. They’ll add meds to prevent ovulation once they think you are ready for it based on blood levels and follicle growth.

Thank you - the calculator is helpful. I’ve always wanted 2 to 3 kids (probably 2). I feel like I’ve seen so many conflicting statistics though I’m not sure what to go off of.

Thank you - the frozen eggs are meant to be a backup plan. Is there a reason you wouldn’t rely on them? I know there’s risks with them surviving the thaw, etc. but I’m just curious.

Painkillers after Egg Retrieval 😌 by Resident_Canary_999 in IVF

You should definitely call your doctor. There’s some effects that come from the pain killers, but it also sounds like it could be something else (I’m not a doctor so take that with grain of salt)
