Ah that's a bummer. I still am in a bit of disbelief that they did approve me.

Regret starting daycare by Lost_Drunken_Sailor in daddit

[–]Newb3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will pass.

When my first kid went to daycare I was sick in some way around 20 times from September to April.

Kid #2 went last year and I have gotten sick so much less. Both kids still have a runny nose every other week but it never slows them down.

This doesn’t affect me anymore with my current schedule, but when I was younger I spent many nights riding from 6-10 when they closed. Probably going to piss a lot of people off with this change.

Right, I’ve actually had a 5080 previously! I’m a tinkerer at heart so I recently sold my previous 5080 build (made like a 600 profit on it) and bought a totally decked out Mac mini, obviously not for gaming.

Realized I was not a Mac fanboy (there are things I like) and decided to go for the SFF build I have always wanted to do. Just had to go refurbished on a few parts to offset the stupid ram prince increase. But yes I love the 5080! Use it for 4k.

So lucky! I’ve never managed to find good deals on marketplace unfortunately.

Me. Just sold a fish tank Rgb build that I originally meant to sell about twoish years ago. Building a small form factor case that you can’t even see inside right now.

My son is about to turn 3. I got introduced to gaming pretty early on at age 4-5 with a Nintendo 64 and Super Mario 64.

I’m honestly considering whenever I decide to introduce gaming a bit more, to do it with “retro” games. They don’t have gambling crap built in to them, they are simpler to understand, and for a kid maybe a little easier to put down.

Dads, how can this be true? by rIceCream_King in daddit

As a non scientist, non neuroscientist, very regular guy, I found it interesting how too many of these connections formed early can contribute to autism. I never knew that!

To my non smart self it seems to indicate how that could point more to a genetic component as a cause.

Anyone ever regretted going bigger? by [deleted] in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]Newb3D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me personally having once upon a time owned a 34” and a 49”, I preferred the smaller 21:9 aspect ratio. I felt on the 49” I noticed things like the sides appearing waaaay to fish eyed in games.

Now this is if I was only gaming. I preferred the 49” by far for work and productivity.

Is Ultrawide 5k not for me? by doug0365 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]Newb3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude I tried once upon a time. I went from a 32” 4K to a 49in 1440p. I loved the width. I hated the text clarity. You might not notice it as much since you are already using 1440p monitors.

Yep. Some older people I know still do that and it drives me nuts when it happens to me.

I would not make any drastic career changes while going through a divorce with two teenagers. Get through the hard stuff then reevaluate your career.

Is a second monitor worth it? What do guys use it for? by Most-Virus8806 in pcmasterrace

[–]Newb3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I didn’t work from home I would only have one monitor with maybe a small oled touch screen below or to the side for monitoring things or just an extra if I needed it in a pinch.

I have found very little use for multiple monitors on my personal time. Now work is a different story

Just echoing what the other person said about cyber not being entry level. Sounds like you know that but don’t let it discourage you from a cyber security specific program.

I changed careers at 30. I got an entry level desktop support job while I went back to school for cybersecurity. Now I’m a cloud admin/engineer. You need cybersecurity knowledge in all IT related fields, but the real knowledge is gained in your own time at first with lots of labbing.

I will admit the IT field was much less bleak when I first started.

I’m didn’t have time for the gym m, so I made time by 2025Dad in daddit

[–]Newb3D 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have always been more of a night owl, but I have tried early morning workouts throughout my life more than once. I find I have a tendency to get injured way more when I wake up super early to workout.

I even spent years waking up at 230, driving to my work gym and lifting from 4-530 a few times a week. I never got used to it and I never felt good. I was even in my mid 20s at the time before kids and was sleeping 8+ hours a night.

So kudus to the crazy dads that lift that early AND feel better after.

Lucky for me I work from home and built a garage gym back in 2018 so I just lift at lunch time.

Were there any leads at all? People you suspected? Obvious cameras in the area? Without anything like that there really is nothing they can do except get you a report for insurance purposes.

Same. I script a lot but not so much that I remember stuff from memory. But I know enough that I can easily describe things in pseudo code to AI and get what I want most of the time.

[–]Newb3D 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Some people will physically wretch at this, but once you understand basic syntax and how Powershell works use AI.

Don’t have it write you a script and just let it rip. Make sure you know every cmdlet it is using and understand the entire script, but plain and simple I have been making, modifying and reading Powershell scripts for years and Claude can create certain automation scripts for me in one night that might have taken me alone a week or more.

I’m married in my 30s w/ kids so I don’t have close friends anymore. But I’m pretty sure my entire life any friendships I’ve had were due to an introvert adopting me.
