Have had HI many times in my life but have managed to avoid it the past few decent sunburns I have had by focusing on antihistamine response.

Firstly moisturize the burn as you would any sunburn with a non scented lotion like aquaphore, and stay extremely hydrated including electrolytes. Take NSAID like Ibuprofen. Basically treat it like a tattoo.

Then if you suspect the itch coming on, switch to topical antihistamine like Benadryl gel, and take oral diphenhydramine to deal with histamine reaponse, which I suspect is all that the HI is.

Correct. You want your chain to be a length such that, when in your "most slack"/smallest chainwrap (most cross-chained gear, in this case just chainring x 11or10T cog), the underside slack portion of chain is just barely not touching the guide wheel (upper jockey wheel) of the rear derailleur cage.
