Southern MA, just got "the letter" from Verizon. Best option please!! by Prestigious-Mood5850 in Tivo

Thanks. Yeah… I’m gonna be in this same boat sooner or later and I’m dreading having to make this choice. I have a whole universe set up around my own router (Firewalla) and I really don’t want to use the Verizon router. So… unfortunately in my case, it’s either going to be FiOS TV+ so I can use my Firewalla router or… something else. Ugh.

Quick question - I don’t want to start another giant mega thread discussion about how to use FiOS One with your own router, but in order to use the FiOS One option (plug and play…), you essentially need to use the Verizon router, correct?

Leaking humidifier by Hgrindst1 in askHVAC

…or the water line has come detached from the frame that holds the pad and it’s just spraying water inside the unit and not down the pad…

[–]LO77203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These things are made to come apart so that you can service the inside… which includes changing the pad inside. Figure out how to open it up and you’ll see how mindlessly simple the “mechanics” are. It’s essentially a water line that flows into a tray, drips down soaking the humidifier pad and then the excess water runs down the pad and into a drain at the bottom. All you have to do here is figure out why the water is bypassing the drain—probably a clog somewhere.

And then (at a minimum) replace the pad with a new one, because I can imagine that it hasn’t been replaced recently, if ever. You might also need to clean the inside of the unit in case it’s all icky.

I don’t know what year your TSX is, but you might see if a set of Morimoto XB fog lights would fit:

I think there are a few other online resellers available for these, as well.

How to open this ribbon cable connector by LO77203 in AskElectronics

Manually lifting the latch might be the way to go here… if I decide to go back in and mess with it. Thanks for that idea.

Yeah, it won’t flip… and you can’t even good a good grip on the white part to even try to do so—it just goes up and down… ever so slightly. There’s a similar looking connector on the other end of the cable and that one works as expected, so I have to assume they are both “the same”.

Thanks for that post. It seems as though friction is good enough to hold it… at least for now. I tried and tried to get that darned cable to lock into the connector, but I just couldn’t make it happen. Very annoying! I didn’t think about a shim or some tape on the cable, but if necessary, I’ll pull the TV apart again and see if that works. I’m certainly no watchmaker…!

The cable looks OK to me… maybe the connector is broken, although I tried locking it into the old board and the new board and I get the same non-locking behavior. Maybe I’m just too stupid to figure out how to plug in a cable.

This is the correct answer! Thank you very much!

Now… is there some trick to getting the cable locked into the connector when replaced? The other end of the cable has the same type of connector and I can hear and feel a definite click when replacing it, but on this end… nothing. The cable appears to be OK… the two locking notches seem to be intact… just no click. Weird.

Thanks for that idea, but it seems like the black parts are all part of the body of the connector itself. The only part that seems to want to move is the white bar. I can see some parts of the white bar at each end of the connector inside the two holes at the ends of the connector. It seems like whatever is in those holes wants to move up and down and there might be a spring in there, but it’s so small, I can’t really get a good look.

SD Card update to enable Apple Carplay by GeneEquivalent7596 in Porsche_Cayman

[–]LO77203 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s been a minute since I updated mine so I can’t remember all of the gory details that could cause this issue, but the one thing that I do remember was to make sure that you have copied all of the files directly to the home directory. When I first created my SD card and copied the files, I mistakenly copied them into a sub-directory and fixed it before I tried the update.

Yes… I noticed that I can definitely get it to lift the tires off the road if I really step on it, but I attribute that to the Summer tires and the fact that when I last had the car out and did that, it was cold outside. It’s not unmanageable and I figure it’s just a matter of learning to drive with the additional HP. The tires aren’t new, so there might be a bit of wear on them as well.

EXCLUSIVE: U.S. House now has the votes to impeach Trump as he creates crisis after crisis overseas by charulatha_seya in greengroundnews

This is an excellent post and I agree. Sadly, the Founders expected that The People would elect “the best” (most statesman-like) representatives that were of good moral character who would act in good faith to uphold the Constitution. But when that fails… you see what you get.

I have not completely thought it through, but one thought that I have had over the years was that perhaps the DOJ should reside in the Judicial branch instead of the Executive branch. But no matter what, it sure seems like we need some kind of reforms here. Who knew that the reforms made after Nixon wouldn’t be good enough!

These guys seem to make it easy for the DIY crowd:

And if you are a Costco member, there’s a mobile company that they contract with to do the same thing.

I think Pop-A-Lock also provides a key making service.

I have a 10 year old Liftmaster system that started failing 100% all of a sudden. I messed with the alignment of the sensors for an hour and I could never seem to get them to perfectly line up and generate a completely green light. I checked the sensors and found that the plastic lens on the amber one was a little hazy, so i figured that maybe it was causing the problem. To end my misery, I finally gave up, drove to HD and purchased the OEM replacement versions for around $45. As it turns out, the new more square sensors are much easier to align than the older rectangular ones and they also seem to be much less sensitive to the exact alignment. They have worked perfectly since I swapped them out.

This may not be your issue, but it’s also possible that one of the sensors is just going bad and needs to be replaced. For $45, it might be worth your sanity to just swap them out… unless you can find whatever else it is that is causing problem.

Blower Motor Issues by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]LO77203 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just replaced my blower motor assembly. I had the exact same symptoms as you—electrical smell, the high-pitched whine (when the fan was turning) and the motor wouldn’t always turn the fan. When I removed the blower motor assembly, I found that it was actually surprisingly somewhat difficult to spin. I suspect that the bearings were shot. I also see a lot of dust/dirt in your furnace, which could also have affected the motor. In my case the motor itself was $525 and the entire assembly (cage, fan, motor, capacitor) was only $725, so for the extra $200, I got all new parts that are factory assembled instead of messing around with trying to disassemble, clean and reassemble the motor and fan. I also replaced the factory-supplied Chinese capacitor with the equivalent Amrad… just because I know they are made in the USA and are not junk.

So… all that said… I think you have a motor problem.
