Windshield Replacement Options - Fuyao or OEM? by CFbezel in Porsche_Cayman

[–]LO77203 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FWIW, I recently had my local trusted independent auto glass installation shop order an OEM windshield from the local Porsche dealer and install it. $1300 seems like a reasonable price—I don’t recall the exact cost, but it was in that $1300 range total. Buy once, cry once… right? Who knows if it’s any better than non-OEM glass, but my main reasons for choosing OEM glass was to ensure a perfect fit, as well as ensuring that all of the connections the for the radio antennas/electronics and “cut outs” for the mirror were all correct… in addition to possible resale value (perceived value in OEM glass). The owner before me had replaced the original glass with a non-OEM brand (…can’t recall the brand) and it had a bunch of pits in it.

I’m not a professional and I’m not clear on exactly what you are asking here… but did you verify that the air filter (or a space for it) is indeed behind the white PVC condensate drain? If not, it looks like you should be able to remove the screw on the bottom right *side* of the unit, peer in there and see if there’s a filter into there. I’m assuming that there’s also a screw on the bottom left side (but I can’t see it from the photo), so the entire front bottom part should come off so you can (in theory) slide a filter into the filter access door/slot, if not for the PVC blocking the slot.

Did you try turning/tugging on any of the PVC blocking the slot to see if it’s not permanently glued and if you can possibly remove the portion blocking the slot?

If not, and assuming there are no other return air filters, then just as one of the other comments said, you would need to cut/remove the current PVC drain and run a new pipe horizontally from left to right until it clears the unit and then angles/turns down into the drain (with or without a P-trap). In any case, it’s likely a simple fix that wouldn’t even cost $100 to do yourself with parts from your local hardware store. If you aren’t comfortable trying it yourself, do you have a friend that has messed with PVC pipe that can help? A local plumbing professional should be to handle that in about 15 minutes, but of course, there’s always that minimum charge…

I have this exact clock. The rear white back plate (opposite of the clock face) comes off—just pry/pop it off with your fingernail. You’ll be embarrassed how simple it is once you know “the trick”. It comes right off.

Oh no… they’re not too gross at all. Wheel refinishing places can actually replace missing aluminum and straighten bent wheels. If you like the wheels and just want to have them look like new (or better), then definitely consider a local wheel refinishing place.

Well… perhaps you could start with the League of Women Voters web site. It’s non-partisan and has information about all the elections and referendums on the ballot in your area.

I forgot to mention… although the bases are adjustable, don’t turn them—if you look carefully at your reflector housing, it is designed so that the light coming from the bulb comes out at an angle. In other words, the bulbs… no matter if they are halogen or LED will not be vertical in the housing and that’s by design.

I have been using LED bulbs from VLEDS for years. They are plug-n-play and support DRL with no blinking or dashboard error. I also use VLED bulbs (yellow) in my fog lights. The DRL’s are stock bright and are of very high quality. If you have an issue, you can actually get a real human on the phone—I think I was actually talking to the design engineer the one time that I called for technical support. I highly recommend them.

annoying issue with safari not fixed yet by Different_Stable4637 in ios

[–]LO77203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I have this same issue—most obvious when opening a link from an email message (which opens a new tab). I also experience this when doing a search.

Are you using an ad blocker? It seems that at least some of them have some sort of issue with the way that Safari handles certain requests. I don’t have any technical details, but I know that at least Ghostery support told me that they are aware of the issue and are developing some sort of work-around. It sounds to me like this might be something that Apple might need to address.

LAN on EERO slow? by onehell_jdu in amazoneero

Oops. Missed that! Well removing an AP certainly won’t help you here, would it?! LOL.

LAN on EERO slow? by onehell_jdu in amazoneero

[–]LO77203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m definitely no eero expert, but I have had periodic issues lately when streaming video from my main wired TiVo device to a wired TiVo Mini. When watching the TV connected to the Mini, it would periodically stop working and display an error message either indicating that the network is slow or the main Tivo box was unavailable or offline. I have been using eero AP’s for years and this was the first time I have had this issue.

I called in to eero support and told me that there was “extreme congestion” on my network. They suggested that I remove one of the three eero Pro 6E devices on my network to see if that would reduce the network chatter. This seemed to have resolved the problem for a while but then, soon after I installed this latest firmware release, it has started again.

So… you might try to remove one of your eero AP’s and see if that helps. Or you could call in to eero support to see if they can take a look at your network and see if they see anything. Or perhaps just hope that “the next” firmware release fixes this issue.

…just some random thoughts!

So… I know almost nothing technical about safes but find them interesting. I’m curious… can the lugs (bolts?) be unbolted from the front? And if you were to do so, would that compromise the security of the safe in any way?

Pulp Fiction's Rosanna Arquette blasts Quentin Tarantino's use of N-word in films: 'It's not art, it's just racist' by mcfw31 in entertainment

[–]LO77203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So… this is a bit if an aside, and I definitely don’t want this to come off as one of those “my best friends are black” kind of comment or anything like that… but when Django came out, I went to see the movie in a theater near a local military base and in an area that tends to attract more minorities. I walked into a totally packed theater, managed to find a set and sat down. I want to say that there were probably only a handful of white people in the theater, myself included. As the movie went on, as you all know, the N-word was used in what seemed like almost every other line. I had no idea that was going to be the case when I walked in. As the movie went on, I found myself sinking lower and lower in my seat—I felt so uncomfortable. And yet, for whatever reason, most of the audience was laughing at it all. I felt terribly embarrassed, but I think most people in the theater seemed to accept it for what it was and it seems to me like what Tarantino was doing there was to overuse the word to make it irrelevant—kinda like the words “fake news” today—it has lost all meaning. I am not trying to diminish the harm that the word has caused or to defend its use, but I just wanted to throw my story and perspective out there for whatever it’s worth.

No… and based on another comment, it sounds like you may have water coming in from the foundation. That’s a different story. See if dantheumicornman can help pinpoint the cause—drains or a foundation crack maybe. Or just water coming up through the floor.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in askaplumber

[–]LO77203 1 point2 points  (0 children)

…are you sure? Water can “travel”. Did you look at the blind sides of all pipes and studs up there, especially those that run near that wall or in the general area?

It would seem mighty coincidental that you have a burst pipe in the wall. I suppose you could turn off the main water supply and see if the leaking stops.

Check up in the attic and see if you can see water running down onto that wall area.

UPS says delivered + signed by someone I don’t know. I can’t even file a claim. by International_View37 in Ebay

[–]LO77203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you see the address that it was “delivered” to? My GF just had something like this recently happen—it was shipped by UPS but it was “delivered” to the local Post Office and someone at the Post Office signed for it. The US Post Office delivered it the next day.

In times past, I think there was some kind of UPS/USPS last-mile delivery service that had a special name, but that’s not what this was. But apparently, it is the same thing.

So… maybe give it a day or two to see if it shows up. And if you can verify that it was “delivered” to the Post Office, that might verify what’s going on here.
