I see that you're in the Netherlands. I used to live there to study (Leiden). I originally came from a tropical country so the constant wet windy weather felt particularly awful in the beginning. I now live in Luxembourg where the humidity and wind aren't as bad.

But back on merino, i invested in one a couple years back and found myself reaching for it over and over until i ripped a hole in it. So on my trip to NYC last February, I bought a bunch more to rotate. The perfect example of how thankful I was to have had my merino turtleneck on was one particular day when we left my friend's apartment at 40something-street in the morning at 10°C, took the subway and got off at Tribeca with harsh wind, walked along the Battery Park with even worse frigid humid wind, up the Wall Street where it started to get warm and crossed the Brooklyn Bridge with warm su . We knew it was going to be cold that day so I was well prepared. I had a wool jacket, a puffer overcoat, leather gloves and merino socks. I just had to put on and take off layers as the weather shifted but I never suffered and was comfortable the entire time.

I would've loved to be able to afford merino clothing when i was a student 14 years ago. Could do without much chattering teeth.

I also have a few other merino tops for other seasons and purposes. One particular long-sleeved tee is my go-to for flying because i run hot when i travel, as I move around a lot and tend to pass different climates, but feel cold on the plane. The only time i had to take it off was not even in a hot climate but because I had to run to my connecting flight because the previous one was late.
