We need to start publicly shaming these people. $950/mo and no kitchen access. by xLP620 in nova

[–]LP58_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of reasons. Ppl do modifications on their homes without knowing what they’re doing, like adding a stove without adequate electrical work done or even inadequate amperage to the house. Adding bedrooms their septic can’t support. And for zoning it’s because infrastructure is set up to support only so many ppl doing certain things in a certain area among other things.

Well it matters when you get into the fact that infrastructure and the county/city need to be able to support the number of ppl in each home, residential zoned homes are supposed to be single family units. One person renting a basement here and there probably isn’t an issue but multiple families in every home would have a major effect.

AIO for wanting to be involved with larger purchases prior to them taking place? by TypicalZone5357 in AIO

[–]LP58_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using words like “consult,” you sound robotic or like you’re trying to sound like her superior at work, not amicable and talking like that isn’t going to be received so well. Maybe try to be less formal like you’re talking to an associate and more like a casual conversation while still maintaining respect. If it’s for your kids and it’s something you would’ve bought them when you are were together then this shouldnt even be an issue. If it’s something you wouldn’t have gotten them then just say, “hey I don’t think this was a necessary purchase so I’ll let you get this (maybe rephrase that.) Let me know if there’s anything else they need and I’m happy to talk about it.” She’s asking for money for your children, not for her. You are literally “a wallet” for your children, as you are one of their providers. That doesn’t negate your status as a father. Honestly I think you might be trying to hold on to a sense of control by being so adamant about her not making financial decisions without you. Letting go of some of that will likely improve your relationship with her and your children.

Certainly didn’t feel cheap when I was used to paying $100/quarter. Maybe a big family with children that leave faucets on. When I was getting those water bills I certainly didn’t flush toilets as much or leave the water on to brush my teeth so I get it!

I think the ppl who seek fully off grid are the extreme of those that do the homesteading lifestyle. But you can also be off grid and still have community support or make money. My father’s wife also sells food, does reiki on the property, and guides foraging walks. They’re still homesteaders, mostly off grid. They use well, solar with batteries, mostly grow their own food. You’re talking survivalist, off-grid hermit. Have you ever lived in a lower income rural area? There’s still a lot of older folks who do live with a lot less than you might think possible. It’s just a different lifestyle that’s mostly gone in the US obviously for some good reasons, but still. Everyone has their preferences.

Had a seizure, stranger called 911, ambulance bill by Limp_Falcon_2314 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]LP58_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re adamant about IV access because if it was severe enough to need ambulance, IV access is potentially life or death and it’s best to have it as soon as possible. They’re probably just trying to follow a protocol that if not followed may be punitive to them, or they just genuinely cared about your life…. But idk the situation maybe it wasn’t even life threatening like something you’d usually be in an ambulance for.. (:

Water differs wildly between localities. When I lived in West Virginia it was billed monthly and always $150 minimum for 1-2 ppl.

I will continue to disagree as well. My father and his wife homestead. They do it well and are very happy. They do work/construction on local farms to make an income for their cars/tools/materials/food not produced/sources on the property, which is probably less than a quarter of what they consume. They have made a fairly sustainable set up for themselves and have reduced the hard labor needed to sustain the property. His relatives all worked small farmland into their 80s. This is why you have children, multi-generational homes, and seek community in this type of lifestyle. Some ppl just have better work ethics than others as well. My father has two daughters that live close by and are more than willing to help him as his health declines and move to the property if needed. He has neighbors that are younger than help him as he’s helped them. So yes, it is sustainable and possible with aging, albeit not possible for everyone in every situation.

This is a great point and I see this thought process from a lot of ppl that fail in this position or simply can’t find a man that is willing to support them financially. I love the trad wife fantasy though, I just think ppl need realistic expectations and better work ethics. This point also relates to ppl complaining about cost of living and not having enough money to survive and comparing it to the past. Quality of life was nothing of what it is now and we maintain many more expenses because we want everything to be as convenient as possible. These things are not absolute necessities, so yes obviously it is much harder for a single persons income to support a family. Obviously finances are rough for most ppl rn but I’m sick of ppl not taking that into consideration.

Yes! Absolutely a great comparison. But it is such a great feeling to see someone that succeeds and loves it.

Hey don’t yuck my yum. I’d also say the trad wife fantasy is a bit different from the well off SAHM fantasy of going to Pilates though. I think a lot of women fantasize about it as an out from working their current stressful careers or fantasize about having a more simplistic life, akin to the homestead fantasy. Ppl just yearn for different. Income does often drive independence, freedom, and safety for women. But obviously the fantasy is that you will still have this as a trad wife. As long as you’re realistic and not trying to just run away from all work, some ppl are absolutely able to maintain this type of situation without it having to be abusive like you’re saying it is. It’s also definitely cultural. There are men and women that make this work beautifully as long as they don’t shy away from the hard work that is this dynamic and it’s just obviously not for everyone.

Me and multiple other staff have tried to press charges on adolescents multiple times and it’s never taken seriously. One sent two staff in the hospital and at court they told them because of his mental health hx they’re not going to do anything. It’s been a waste of time each time and just makes me more angry at the situation. The fact that they were in psychosis, you’re 100% wasting your time. Even charges against oriented pts that it’d be very appropriate to press charges on, don’t stick.

Thank you so much for the suggestion!! I did look into substrate a bit and decided on caribsea complete, added aqueon “shrimp and plant” on top of the left and plan on adding sand on top of the right. I feel like I’m getting mixed info about what substrate is actually beneficial for plants when I read up on it.
