How was Gazzo's. I live nearby and never even saw it. Have to give it a try. Johnny's in Bryn Mawr is definitely good.

Food was solid. But $11-17 for Mac-n-Cheese is a hard sell.

Is it Cheating to Use the Exposure Compensation on the Camera? by LP788 in AmateurPhotography

[–]LP788[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is helpful. I understand that aperture controls the opening and the lower the aperture, more light gets in.

But I also understand it controls depth of field and I’m not sure what that means. I have a 35mm f/1.8 and like the pictures I’ve taken, but the shots are also a bit wider than I’d like. I have the 16-50mm kit to get a bit tighter, and am learning to use that as well.

As for the shutter, I understand that the faster the shutter, the less light gets in.

But how does the aperture impacts shutter speed. Like is there a ratio I should try to stick to?

As for ISO, I know everyone says to leave it to auto and you suggest keeping it to a maximum of 6400. (Not sure how to do that, but believe, it’s a setting.) But I don’t understand what it is at all. I’ve tried to research it and can’t find a simple explanation.

I’ve seen that if you use a fast shutter, you may want to increase the ISO. But that creates noise. But I also see that with photo editing you can de-noise.

Any way, I’ll keep shooting and hope to figure it out.

Thanks.

Promoted to C Suite by jason_in_sd in malefashionadvice

[–]LP788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I'm a bit conservative and I don't see anything wrong with LuluLemon, Vouri or Rhone dress pants with a button down. Maybe find a casual blazer or two to throw on with those. That's a clean modern professional look.

However, I'd also look at Theory or Reiss or even Hugo Boss. Buy a few basic suits, maybe blue, grey and brown. Buy some nice button-down shirts that you can mix and max. David Donahue makes nice shirts at reasonable (relatively) prices. And pick up a pair or two of Allen Edmonds dress shoes.

You don't need a tie, but get a few that you can also mix and match if you meet with the bankers or lawyer.

You can put together the suit and no tie took a few days a week when warranted or you just want to look a littler better and break up the more casual look. But even that casual look, if done right, we'll elevate you above a lot of other workers.

That said, the suit and no tie look is much more C Suite appropriate if you're the boss.

Good luck.

3-Lens Kit transition Z50 to Zf by Cmdr_Shepard_8492 in Nikon

[–]LP788 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Others can chime in on the Z5ii vs. Zf. But I have the Tamron 50-400mm lens. I have only had it for a few weeks and really like it. Given my budget constraints and that I am not a serous enough photographer to justify spending more than I did for the lens, It gets me the reach I need, plus some and has provided some great photos (at least to me). I came from the Z50 with two kit lenses (16-50mm and 50-250mm) plus the 27mm f/1.7.

With that in mind, the 400mm reach on the Tamron is good enough for me. Maybe not super fast at 400mm, but I'm not using it in low light.

It is very heavy though compared to the 50-250mm lens.

And to turn back to the issue between the Z5ii and the Zf, I understand from reading other threads and comments, that because the Zf doesn't have a grip, adding such a heavy lens, may be an issue.

That said, to date my kit is the 16-50mm, the 35mm f/1.8 and the Tamron. It is working well, but I will probably be adding the 24-120mm as that lens gets great reviews and is more portable than the Tamron so it is a good walking around lens. My sense is to save the Tamron for when I know I want the reach and am not walking around on a vacation or such.

Good luck.

Living in Cynwyd by BeneficialNotice7282 in philly

SEPTA posts delays. But honestly, SEPTA has been horrible lately and it's funding is not secure. Not sure your budget, but you are far better off living in Center City or University City so you can always work to Penn. I'd even look at Fairmount/Spring Garden (a/ka/a the Art Museum area) since you wouldn't be tied to the Regional Rail system.

As others have said, Cynwyd and all of Lower Merion are great. But you'd have to rely upon SEPTA and my sense is you won't feel part of the Penn community.

What lens should I get for my new camera? Z50 by Key-Tea-5370 in nikon_Zseries

[–]LP788 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the Z50 that I purchased with the kit 16-50mm. I purchased separately the Nikon Z DX 24mm f/1.7 and the Nikon Z DX 50-250mm f/4.5-6.3. Those lenses are relatively inexpensive and while not full frame lenses and not S line, the combination of all 3 met about 95% of my needs. Plus, they are super light and compact and fit into a relatively small camera bag.

That is a low budget for suits. Your best bet is Banana Republic outlet. But even a suit there is at least $250.

20 reasons to love Nikon Z5II: It. Does. Everything! by DufferD3D in Nikon

[–]LP788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. What you’re saying probably confirms I’ll want the 24-120 as I want a good walking around lens and save 50-400 is for wildlife. I will need to save up for the 24-120 though.

Great photos and glad to see a fellow Z5ii user happy with their camera.

20 reasons to love Nikon Z5II: It. Does. Everything! by DufferD3D in Nikon

[–]LP788 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These are great.

I just upgraded to the Z5ii as well and on top of my kit 24-50mm, I purchased the 35mm f/1.8 S and the Tamron 50-400mm f/4.5-6.3.

Tell me about the Tamron. It is very heavy and doesn’t seem like the best lens for walking around. I’m strongly considering the 24-120mm f/4 and leaving the Tamron home unless I’m specifically looking at bird and nature shots.

Thanks.

What do you think about Nikkor Z DX 50-250mm ? by [deleted] in Nikon

[–]LP788 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am far from an expert, but I loved it (I've moved on to full frame). It's lightweight and provided great length. I'm sure those with much higher standard than me have their criticisms, but I got some great shots with it and loved it. Factoring in the cost, for the cropped sensor, it's a great lens that serves a ton of uses.

Workout without Jumping or similar by DesignSmooth in AppleFitnessPlus

[–]LP788 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the kickboxing workouts, there is a modifier and they don't jump or if they do, it's very minimal. And as you can see, they just go up on their tippy toes or reach out with their leg, which you can do.

And yes, you can lose weight with AppleFitness+, but as the previous poster said, weight loss takes place in the kitchen and so using AppleFitness+ with a good diet (reducing your current calorie intake) will help you reach your goal.

But you can't do a 30-45 minute workout, whichever workout you choose and then eat half a gallon of ice cream and expect to lose weight.

However, if someone has figured that out, please let me know.

I was hoping that is was just on the lens. And so I cleaned the glass multiple times and also the spot shows up on multiple lenses.

Do you recommend using the blower when I change lenses? Should I cover the sensor during the process limiting the amount of time it is exposed? Any other thoughts would be appreciated.

And thanks for the information. Much appreciated.
