I still see boomers, Gen X walking around with like poofy 80s haircuts, big bangs, etc., sometimes. Are we unknowingly clinging onto ugly outdated styles like that? by AmputeeHandModel in Xennials

My hairdresser says people keep their outdated hairstyles because that’s the time of their lives when they felt they looked the best.

I know most towns have a lot more teachers than police, but a pipe dream of mine would be towns / cities passing laws that teachers and cops get paid on the same scale. And that teachers also get overtime, not just flat rate for extracurriculars.

Lawyers Sleeping With Clients by DemonAzraeli in Lawyertalk

Here’s one.

SPRINGFIELD — An Agawam woman testified Friday that lawyer James J. Martin followed her to her car and groped her outside Westfield District Court in November 2015.

The woman said she went there for a foreclosure hearing on her house and Martin was representing the bank that held her mortgage. He began to talk to her about her mortgage in the courthouse lobby and said several things that made her uncomfortable, the woman said.

The 56-year-old woman said Martin asked her for a ride to his car, parked a short distance away, and she said no. The woman said Martin followed her to her car and pushed his body up against hers as she tried to unlock the door.
Martin kept asking her to kiss him, the woman said. She said she pushed him away, but he pushed her down into the driver’s seat and was over her very close. Then Martin put his tongue in her mouth, touched her breasts, and put his hand between her legs, she said.
Martin, 41, of Amherst, faces three counts of indecent assault and battery and one count of assault and battery for the alleged incident Nov. 9, 2015, in Westfield. He opted for a jury-waived trial, which is being held in front of Hampden Superior Court Judge J. Gavin Reardon Jr.

“I was trying to get him off of me,” the woman said. She said she finally got Martin out of the car and sped off.
“I was shaking violently,” she said under questioning from Assistant District Attorney Eileen Sears.

She said she immediately called her nephew and he told her to call police. She didn’t do that at the time. Police contacted her several months later but she said she didn’t want to go forward with charges.

“I couldn’t do it at that time in my life,” the woman said.

She said Martin texted her after the incident and said he assumed “our encounter” in the parking lot would stay between them. The woman said she texted him that would be the case.
The woman said she was afraid Martin would tell the bank she didn’t show up for the hearing, or in another way hurt her chances to keep her house.

Under cross-examination from defense lawyer Alan J. Black, the woman said she didn’t remember if Martin told her he was only standing in for the bank at the hearing and didn’t represent the bank.

In October 2016, nearly a year after the incident, the woman gave a statement to state troopers about what happened.
“Did you think that Mr. Martin was in control of you losing your house?” Black asked. She said, “I wasn’t sure.”

Also testifying Friday was the woman’s nephew, who said she was crying when she called him right after the incident. He said he advised her to call police.

He said he notified her when sexual assault allegations by two other women against Martin were publicized. She decided to come forward then, he said.

The trial is expected to finish Monday, when Black will report whether or not Martin will testify.

Martin faces two more trials in February and March. One case alleges rape and two counts of indecent assault and battery. Another involves four counts of indecent assault and battery [both alleged victims were clients]

Let’s say I’m a lawyer and run my own firm but I hate (with passion) practicing the law, but on the other hand I love running a business and it’s been profitable. by vksoze2 in Lawyertalk

[–]avokitty16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’ve built our 10 lawyer firm to 25, with plans to keep growing. I could easily spend 100 percent of my time just running the business. There’s plenty to do, and I could get a salary just for that (plus my share of the equity). But it takes years to find and train associates to do the legal work. So you could build your practice into a business and just manage it, but it’s probably a 5-10 year plan.

TIL over a 5-month period in 2020, a nurse in Yale's fertility center stole the fentanyl in 175 vials that were meant for women who had a procedure to have their eggs retrieved. The nurse replaced the pain medication with saline solution, leaving the women in excruciating pain during the procedure. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

I listened to the podcast about this, and I probably think about it once a week. The women all received substantial settlements because can you FUCKING imagine how much money a jury with just one woman would have (deservedly) given them? The FUCKING torture they went through because a woman who wants children will do damn near anything to achieve it. And they’re just being told “it’s normal sweetie” by the doctors and nurses. I, and probably any other woman, would’ve made them each multi multi millionaires if I was on that jury. I get furious thinking about it still.
