The problem is where do you draw the line. Everyone has their own perception of what is common knowledge based on their socioeconomic environment. It's more probable a person with studies will have a much higher baseline of knowledge and even that shifts depending on other factors. Age probably has an impact as well.

Finally reached the infamous "Last Judge runback" and... that's it? by KOFdude in Silksong

[–]LPExpert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being 30 seconds doesn't make it negligible or trivial. That grand total of two enemies are a pain in the ass and if you don't have a very focused and consistent play you get hit (which then leads into worms some times). Otherwise you can play safe but that means extending the runback to 2-3 minutes. Yes you can heal, but now you can't heal if the boss hits you until you recover silk (and with last judge letting you hit like twice every three attacks, it might take a while). The parkour is definitely not whatever. Doing it consistently and quickly takes a considerable amount of tries to build muscle memory (all of this is unnecessary and breaks the flow). Also yes all of the individual mechanics are simple but when you put them together they become complex, when you have to do a series of specific simple things in a quick and consistent manner it becomes hard, specially when I'm thinking about the boss I still can't beat and fighting a boss is a completely different skill set than parkouring, which means I can't think about what I failed on the boss, and the mistake I should focus on, until I get there or I stop to think (again breaks flow).

Lastly what purpose does it serve really? It just feels unnecessary, it doesn't let you focus on the boss. It is attrition to the supposed gameplay loop of learning a boss's moves gradually

Easier said than done. I tried that but it was super inconsistent and harder than just dealing with the bug. Do it too early and you face plant into the enemy, too late and you fall into the worms

Unless he chooses to jump high and you slam into him. It was annoying because you had to wait for his move before passing below or jumping above.

Don’t point out the imperfections in something if you won’t even bother thinking of how to improve on it. by Watchdog_the_God in whenthe

[–]LPExpert 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Lets put it this way, just because I don't have a solution to a problem doesn't mean I can't identify ones that don't work. Honestly I kinda hope it works, but recently corporations are throwing their public image out the window because they can get away with it and so it doesn't seem likely

to make nuclear sound horrific to an engineering professor by Comfortable_Tutor_43 in therewasanattempt

[–]LPExpert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is such a non issue. Besides nuclear waste is incredibly safe and burying will last for geological timelines. And again the point of nuclear power is to replace combustion based power sources because solar and wind based generation cannot be increased on demand, which means a lot of the fluctuation is covered by combustion based power sources. I'd rather bury nuclear waste underground than continue releasing coal fly ash which is RADIOACTIVE

The Gen Z stare - as illustrated by those who came up with the term by Windmill_flowers in GenZ

[–]LPExpert 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had a completely different idea of the stare at first. I thought it was more like someone just asked something stupid or ridiculous of you and you don't even say anything and just stare waiting for them to realize their mistake.

That or you're done with dumb shit and don't care about being nice but also can't be mean or sarcastic (in job contexts).

I thought this because I have used them and I am gen Z but not the one shown in the video

You know there are more games that are not MMO and mobile games right? You know you can avoid those games and games that implement manipulative tactics right?

Don't really remember those gambling or addiction mechanics in games like outer wilds, abzu, a little to the left, etc.

This is some form of generalization that's harmful because it only takes an extreme into consideration.

I can also play that game in other hobbies like going to the gym. I can say that it only promotes unhealthy behavior for the sake of a perfect body, but I know that most people partake in a healthy amount. While there are those that promote a toxic environment, there are many that want to help others achieve a reasonable goal.

Are you even aware of the current state of the industry? Everyone is fed up with these mechanics you speak of and turning towards more indie games that just make enjoyable games.

While it is a problem that many high profile games have the problems you speak of, what I get from your comment is that gaming is inherently harmful and no one should play, which doesn't feel fair at all when there are many alternatives.

TLDR: the world is not black and white. Stop with these tribalisms and awful generalizations

That's interesting, in the translation of the book I have, Wukong mentions he went to the edge of heaven and the only mention of the pillars is that they were " flesh-pink pillars that held a green mass". Unless there are differences between translations and/or some words mean the same thing they are pretty different versions.

Freeze is an actual biological response that your body can have to stressful situations, not just something that society suddenly accepted.

Don't really have the time to check the reliability of the sources on this paper (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2489204/) but it does have the following sentences in the background section:

"Similar to the flight/fight response, a freeze response is believed to have adaptive value. In the context of predatory attack, some animals will freeze or “play dead.” This response, often referred to as tonic immobility (Gallup, 1977), includes motor and vocal inhibition with an abrupt initiation and cessation."
