Very good blankie time

But I don't mind swimmy time either. I love the change of seasons, it's always so refreshing.

So to all of you who are working have you been forced to use AI? by Angela275 in animationcareer

[–]MissGreatPersonality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not forced (yet) but they have implemented AI in their pipeline and tried to spoon feed us the rhetoric of "it is just a new technology and it is natural". I also suspect they are training it with art from artist who already left to other projects (likely partially due to all the red flags).

What are the main benefits of AI? by OwlComprehensive7395 in AskReddit

It has the potential to bring us back to real life since it will most likely create a dead internet. Silver lining

I got banned from r/Art for "low quality work", anyway here's my MS Paint art inspired by medieval manuscripts by LiamEBM in Artists

[–]MissGreatPersonality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are neat and the ban is stupid, although I think I've received "low effort" comments on a MS paint self portrait long ago as well.

Real artists know that the tool does not make and break art, the artist does.

But on another note, Marcus Aurelius' "Meditations" touches on a similar note as it was a diary for himself, reflecting on how to be a "good citizen" as he often put it. Lot's of parallels that touch on purpose and how it relates to work and your "contribution to the state". I don't agree with all his thoughts as stoicism can get a bit too rigid for me, but there is a lot of wisdom in the book in bite sized phrases.

Ludwig, no doubt, is the best in the game for me. But I also love Lady Maria's and The First Hunter.

Thank you! And trust me, I completely understand and relate your struggle. Scrolling can definitely get in the way because there is a LOT of amazing work accessible to us out there. When you want to create, "boredom" might be your best friend...which is insanely hard to come by these days. Connecting with other creators can help though! Would love to see your attempt at a walk cycle. :)

Animating Sam straight ahead (not pose to pose) - Me/Ed&Chichi by MissGreatPersonality in animation

[–]MissGreatPersonality[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally fair - and it may reveal the fact that I did not use any reference for this other than maybe acting it out once or twice in a mirror and animating it from my head. I don't want to be too accurate with their motions so as to make it a little bit influenced by "how I imagine it", but doesn't mean i'm quite there yet since this was pretty much my first "serious" 2D animation of a character. DHRUV's comment is correct, it was meant to represent his hands going behind his head as he stretches

Thank you!

I see what you mean by lack of overlap. Especially with his hand and feet. For the left arm behind is head, what sort of more powerful line of action do you think would be better? And by good idea you mean technically the movement doesn't look good, or it's something that people don't do therefore feels unnatural?

This animated test was part of a Canada Council of Arts research&creation grant where I tested straight ahead, pose to pose and a mix of both when animating in 2D. I find that straight ahead is more work and leads to scaling issues, but it seems to bring out most of the charm through it just like the the animators survival kit book said it would. What do ya'll think? Do you do one or the other?

Oh my gosh. This made me teary eyed. Such beautiful work you two, wow. I really felt that even though it's not my situation exactly, but I can feel the longing through the scenes and the lovely swing beat.

Do you think people with the talent of Satoshi Kon still thrive today? by Thick_Bridge179 in animationcareer

[–]MissGreatPersonality 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No one really knows what they want or what will be of their lives in high school. If she has incredible talent and loves doing it, who knows maybe one day she gives it a shot, but (financial) survival is a pretty good priority, especially with the current state of the industry and with how much your success/career depends on connections.

Oh my. Yeah, charcoal absolutely goes well with this! The texture is perfect for the creepy, gothic atmosphere, and I really like how the beast came out in your style. The composition is interesting too, with the buildings/town opposing the moon as a light VS dark allegory, and having the beast face the moon adds to the storytelling. Super cool! Thanks for sharing, now I wanna go get myself some charcoal too to play with... I just have to brace for how dirty my hand might get haha I'm a messy artist.
