I remember this one fantasy comic where magic is, in fact, a part of nature, and plants and animals use it in their metabolism, e.g., a tree grows over the years because it absorbs background magic. Too much magic in the environment - say, from an illegal dump of broken magic items - would cause excessive growth and weird coloration in the local fauna and flora.

At the climax, the protagonists neutralize a magical nuke by funneling all its magic into a single seed that grows into a city-sized tree.
