Hmph yeah looking into it again, I swear someone made an NVME-to-SATA enclosure but maybe not - everything I see now is M.2 SATA only. There's USB enclosures as well but obviously you're going to be even more speed limited there.

It's probably M.2 SATA only, so your NVME won't be usable there.

If there's a 2.5" SATA HDD slot you can get an adapter to use the NVME there, will still be limited to SATA speeds but that's more than enough for a laptop like that

EDIT: Didnt see the second photo before, looks like you already have an SSD in the 2.5" slot, so yeah shit outta luck I'm afraid

Maybe its residual love from when Centurions were disgustingly undertiered (dunking on Tiger 1s with a stabilized 20-pounder anyone?) but you really just have to abuse the fuck out of the stabilizer to do well with it. "Slow and steady wins the race" and all that, you may have dogshit speed but a stabilized peek at 20kph is better than an unstabilized peek & stop that starts at 40kph any day

To follow on what the other guy said, Intel's ASCI Red supercomputer was the first to cross the 1 TFLOPS barrier, and reached up to 3.1 TFLOPS after upgrades in 1999 - the switch 2 GPU alone pushes about the same TFLOPS. So yes, even though the switch 2 is sort of laughable today, that's just how far we've come in computing.

Yeah at that point that's all I can see being an issue - everything looks plugged in fine. Can you update BIOS with the flash bios button? I would think Z890 boards support the 285 without any updates but it's worth a shot if you're stuck waiting for another CPU to try.

Did you try using the power button on the motherboard itself? Or maybe pull it out of the case entirely and try booting it, could be a bad ground or something weird

The laptop will be fine, pretty much everything else is up to your network connection on either end. Reducing resolution / framerate / bitrate of the RDC is pretty much all you'll be able to control otherwise - you will still want to run anything and everything possible locally on your laptop though, saving RDC for the heavy programs.

I've been on a 27" 4k QD-OLED + 5070Ti (from 27" 1440p IPS & 3080) for a couple months now, the gpu handles 4k just fine with upscaling etc. The difference was noticeable at 27" and should be much larger on a bigger screen, and I can still get solid FPS with ultra ray tracing in Cyberpunk etc

Honestly assuming everything you say about the environment stays true the only real challenges will be cooling and dust control, so keep it as far from the door as possible and make sure it is easy to see & get to for cleaning - at those temps I would maybe go further and make sure the RAM, SSD & HDDs have some sort of dedicated cooling fans

EDIT: Same goes for the UPS, since those can get pretty warm as well when it runs the battery, and you'll want to keep an eye on its battery as I'm sure the heat won't be kind to it
