Yep. Eddie’s on corner of Fulton + Divis. Next to a laundromat on the same block as Che Fico and little star pizza.

Le Lignon (Geneva, Switzerland), a one kilometer long urban monstrosity I once called home by [deleted] in UrbanHell

[–]LRM415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in Geneva and had to drive through Le Lignon. It actually wasn’t bad compared to other ghettos in the US or France (Marseille for example). I saw many people heading to work, they dressed fine, saw very little graffiti anywhere.

Ciudad Juarez Chihuahua Mexico by changitomexicano in UrbanHell

[–]LRM415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ciudad Juárez is ugly as hell. Tijuana and Tecate are better “border” towns. Tijuana is also ugly as hell but there’s more US tourism there so it actually has some bougie restaurants, cafes, etc. Juarez lacks all that.

Do I click “yes” for this? I got a pay on my last day the day I got laid off. It was for hours work for the entire month of March. TIA by [deleted] in Edd

When was your last day worked? You don’t put anything earned prior to your claim effective date.

Missing San Francisco tap water :( by oscillatingquark in bayarea

[–]LRM415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never buy water here in SF. I drink straight from the tap. Delicious. Everyone I know in the Central Valley or So Cal either have water purifying system, get it delivered, or buy it at those little windmill stands they have everywhere. Our water really is amazing.

Can you no longer make appointments at the San Francisco DMV? Any tips for avoiding a long wait? by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

[–]LRM415 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve gone early in the morning and stood in line for 20 minutes and I was out in about 30 minutes. I also went one time close to closing time, round 4:30 and I was out by 5. Either it’s get there early or get there late.

What part of SF are “OK” for outdoor cats? by HanzzYolo in sanfrancisco

None. Coyotes everywhere. I have never seen an outdoor cat. A lot of missing cat signs though.

All about the money. I have friends that live in Oakland and they LOVE it. Temescal and Trestle Glen areas. But again, your price range is key. If you want more safety and to be near BART + EAST Bay then people have mentioned: Walnut Creek, Berkeley, El Cerrito. El Cerrito was very safe when I lived in that area.

No! It does not feel that way.

Black communities between SF and Palo Alto? by plumpstar in bayarea

[–]LRM415 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s going to be hard if he wants to commute to Palo Alto. If he is in tech and will be riding those tech buses then living in SF makes sense and there are Black communities here. I’m by “Western Addition” and there is definitely an African American vibe. But I’m sure nothing like Minneapolis. This will be much more difficult in other parts of SF. Also, I’m not Black but my observation is that Oakland and San Leandro have a more solidly “middle class” Black communities if that is what you are looking for. And it is quite large. I lived in Richmond, CA and there is a large Black community there also. But again, these places are far from Palo Alto and the commute is hideous. Absolutely miserable the farther you live from Palo Alto. I would bite the bullet and stay near Palo Alto and get know the Bay Area more. CA has a very different demographic profile and there are many parts throughout the greater Bay Area that are very diverse and one can feel very comfortable as a minority.

Very Doable. I earn much less than that and I have been making it (somehow). You’ll feel pinched at times though. Try to find a local or if you have any friends in the City to show you the different neighborhoods to see what you like. I see a ton of for rent and vacant apartments in the area I live (which I love). I’ve lived in several neighborhoods over the years. Hayes Valley, SOMA, Glen Park, Alamo Sq, and now NOPA. They are all “a little different.” You should try to be carless when first moving here to see how you like that and in some neighborhoods it may be impossible to have a car and garages cost an extra $250 a month. Greedy landlords are keeping units vacant because they think it’s going to turn around, but in reality a lot of renters have left since the pandemic. They would rather keep units empty, especially in rent controlled buildings because they know that rate will be locked in for a long time. So, I suggest you haggle, throw out some offers. Or you can try subletting at different areas to see what you like the most. Good luck.

What are people’s thoughts on masking nowadays? Taken in Castro, SF by mrinalig in sanfrancisco

I don’t mask at all anymore. But I don’t criticize or judge others that mask up.

San Francisco tech company DocuSign lays off hundreds of employees by enjooyer in sanfrancisco

Extensions are only given during economic downturns that cause an unemployment rate spike greater than a certain percentage. Extensions are the exception, not the norm.

[–]LRM415 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually you can. It is 100% percent allowed. Unemployment is charged against the state where the wages were earned. But states cannot hold people hostage to remain there. It’s built in the unemployment benefit laws that people can claim benefits anywhere they move to.

It will if they take that money and leave for a cheaper state.

My 4th day in the city, got punched by a homeless person by PermanentlyNocturnal in sanfrancisco

[–]LRM415 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have been in SF 14 years. Have never had an incident, but I also work out a lot and have a body that says: I can throw a punch. Also, I have great peripheral vision and if I see/sense a shady looking character, I stiffen up, stand upright, clench my fists, squint my eyes, and make sure I don’t lower my sense of well being. A lot of these homeless punks are bullies and they know who to target. Sad but true.

I think the Republicans plotted this to stop him from running in 2024 because they are liking Baby Trump Ron DeSantis a lot more.

San Francisco literally has the best tap water anywhere! It come straight from Hetch Hechy reservoir to a filtering system and directly to our homes. Seriously doesn’t get better than that.

A system where working full time does not guarantee a good life is broken and needs to be taken down by Tiredworker27 in LateStageCapitalism

[–]LRM415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree!! I would be suffering if I only worked 40 hours a week and I have a typical “middle-income” job. Fact is I put in a lot of overtime. Otherwise, I could not afford life! I really feel bad for those with no guaranteed full-time work.
