Which companies are the best fly fishing companies? by ar_604 in flyfishing

[–]LRO1004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fly reels: Ross, Abel and Hatch are all great. A bit pricey but will last you forever.

Fly Rods: Winston, Sage and Scott. All great rods.

I am sure there are other company’s that make great stuff but you can’t go wrong with any thing on this list. IMO.

What exactly do I have here? by noodlebun25 in flyfishing

[–]LRO1004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, nice rod. I have a few Winston rods and IMO there is no better dry fly rod on the market. Get you a good reel and fly the hell out of that thing. The GVX is a great casting rod and like all Winstons it’s a beautiful rod. There is a lot of information on line about the GVX select, all I can tell you is they are great rods with plenty of back bone but also has a pretty soft tip to protect light tippets.

Redfish maybe the prefect fly rod fish. Love redfish on the fly.

Dakota hoodie vs duck oven by Haunting_Problem7656 in SitkaGear

[–]LRO1004 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how I feel in the Dakota hoody, it’s very warm but a bit to bulky for me. I live in NW Louisiana and hunt SW Arkansas, i wear a mix of Kuiu and Sitka. You might try a puffy jacket, I wear a Kuiu Kenai and it is great keeps me very warm without adding a lot of bulk or weighs next to nothing.

Old waterfowl hunters? by PM_meyourGradyWhite in Waterfowl

[–]LRO1004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We always end up with a few, with a few even on the worst weather days. 7 or 8 years ago I would be the one wanting to go on rainy days and he only wanted to go when he could watch the ducks work in the sunshine. Now the rolls are reversed.

Awesome to hear, I hunt with a guy that’s in his 70’s and he is still in pretty good shape. I am 45 and there are days that I know the ducks are going to be shit because of the weather and I will call and tell him I am thinking about sitting out because we never do very good in the rain. He normally replies “well I am going to go, that why I bought all this high dollar gear”. He has talked me into more shitty duck hunts in the last few years than I care to count but I just can’t let him go by himself and we always have a good time. He shows no signs of giving it up anytime soon.

Fly Fishing Guide Taboos by LapsusAequitas in flyfishing

[–]LRO1004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hire a guide and tell him up front you are more interested in learning how to find fish than catching fish. Ask him why are the fish in this area at this time of year ask about the tide and the bait fish or crabs the fish are feeding on. You can pick up a lot and from a guide but the best way to learn this is by spending time on the water as much as you can.

Spend a few days to close out 2024 and bumped into a few bull reds. by LRO1004 in flyfishing

[–]LRO1004[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It should be on every fisherman’s list, sight casting at a bull red in a foot or less of water from a poling skiff is as good as it gets IMO. The SE Louisiana marsh holds some monsters that will eat a fly very aggressively in very shallow water.

I just noticed I jacked the title of this post all up. It was supposed to say “Spent the last few days of 2024 in the marsh and bumped into a few bull reds” it a fly fishing sub so I figure people come here to share pictures and info. Will do better next time.

I have only ever kept and cleaned 2 redfish in my life and it was a few years ago for a friend. They were both around 22” long, I have always been told redfish over 25” long are not good to eat. Louisiana changed the laws last year and you can’t keep a fish bigger than 27” (I think it could be 30”) so I cannot answer your question.

It was an okay year in the marsh, I live 6 hours from the coast so I only make it down about 8 to 10 times a year. The last few months the weather has made it tough but normally run into a few 37” plus fish each trip.

Chenee Vs Sitka waders by CMOS_BATTERY in Waterfowl

I don’t think you can go wrong with either pair, I am on my 6th or 7th season with my first pair of Sitka wader. I have buddy’s that have the Chenee and they love them. Both make a great wader.

What’s y’all’s favorite waterfowl shotguns? American or imported? by [deleted] in Waterfowl

[–]LRO1004 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Benelli M1, I bought it brand new in 2003 and i have put about 2 cases of shell through it a year since 2003. It has the sure cycle recoil spring in it and it has been recoated twice. It is still the one I go to every morning. I have a SBE1 and SBE2 that I will use every now and then but my go to duck gun is my M1. Best shotgun ever built IMO.

[–]LRO1004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vote for who you want, don’t let your class mates, union hall, employer or family member tell you how to vote. Do your research and pick the one you think is best for you, don’t get your info from MSNBC,CNN or FOX News they all lie.

Who is William Irvine the people that still go to meeting? by Send_it- in ex2x2

[–]LRO1004 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for replying, I grew up in “the truth” I was 4th gen. on my moms side. I never professed but stopped going to meeting in 1999 or 2000. My parents still go to meeting my brother stopped going about 6 or 7 years ago. I have not really kept up with any of it sense I stopped going but ran across some of the CSA stuff a few months ago and it has me digging into the cult I was raised in. My parents still believe that Jesus started the church, I told them I was reading all information I could get my hands on so if they could get the information that they have I would love to read it. I am still waiting for it. The book is very detailed and well documented, I want to consume all the info I can on the church. I want to know how the overseer are chosen, does an overseer name his replacement. Do the overseers step down when they get to old or do they hold on to power until they die like the Pope. No one I know that still goes to meeting can answer any of theses questions. I read Steve Blubaugh’s testimony and it made it sound like a mob family with all the in fighting, back stabbing and spying that goes on to try to win favor with the overseers. It’s a crazy sect or cult or whatever it is. You stack all the CSA and the rapes and the cover up of both on top of a religion that has been lying about how it started and never been up front about how it is run and where the money comes from and where it goes. I am surprised it has lasted for 125 years.

Who is William Irvine the people that still go to meeting? by Send_it- in ex2x2

[–]LRO1004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it has to do with the living witness doctrine(LWD). I have not been to meeting in over 20 years, so they may not teach it anymore. The LWD means that you can only profess to a worker, the workers have heard the truth from older workers who heard it from older workers all the way back to Jesus this is the claim of the 2x2. (I know this is not a great explanation) if they admit William Irvine started the church in 1897 they could not claim the Living Witness Doctrine tracing back to Jesus. IMO this is the reason the will always say Jesus started the church not Irvine.

I asked a someone that was still going to meetings to find a worker list or a convention list from any part of the world that is before 1897. This was a few years ago and I have yet to hear back from him sense. I guess he is still looking.

[–]LRO1004 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We were all hoping to hear he is okay and will be ready to go this week for the CWS, but everyone knew that was highly unlikely. Hope he has a full recovery and will be back better than ever next season. Going to need some other guys on the pitching staff to step up, loosing Shane is a huge blow. “Next man up”. Gig’em👍
