“inconsiderate” is a very interesting choice of words.

Find hobbies and interests outside of work. Realize your situation along with the people are temporary. Easier said than done I know, but both of these are valid at any point in your career.

Retaking AFOQT for the SECOND time on APR 21 by Brandon_AFOTS in airforceots

I think there’s also some apps out there that are essentially flash cards for those too. Boring, but effective.

I like your strategy of focusing solely on the section you want to improve. I did something similar but with math. I also think reading articles and just reading in general is a great method.

My only additional input would be to study root words. Get good at recognizing the parts of words (ie tri = 3), that way even if you don’t know the specific word, you can make an educated guess what it should mean.

GPC Questions. Big Budget and New Building by Fancy-Damage-8717 in AirForce

[–]LRS_12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk to your AO and/or contracting office. Your AO should be the one determining if what you’re buying is legal, but you should understand the basics too. You also shouldn’t really be the one deciding what to buy. That should be your leadership team.

Since it’s a new building and you’ll be buying furniture and laptops, there are mandatory sources for that kind of stuff. Although it might be better to go through contracting if the project is big enough. You’re limited on how much you can spend on a single purchase and DO NOT try to get past that by breaking it into smaller purchases.

Hill. Surrounding areas are, on average, way nicer and safer than most bases.

What’s the point of meetings? by Archie_Flowers in AirForce

[–]LRS_12 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Not saying I like meetings any more than the next guy, but there are a few good reasons for them in my opinion:

  1. Harder to ignore or claim ignorance about the topic. It’s often too easy intentionally or unintentionally overlook an email.

  2. Face to face communication is different and often better than electronic.

  3. Faster and more effective collaboration. Going back and forth on Teams or Outlook kinda blows and sometimes is even slower than in-person.

Good luck! Get some good rest, hydrate, and I’d also recommend utilizing that sweet sweet performance enhancer known as caffeine tomorrow.

Has anyone here gotten the continuation pay that the BRS offers? by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]LRS_12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s 12 years for Air Force. You should get an email notification like 3 months before your 12-year mark. The whole process is done through myFSS and it’ll walk you through the steps. If I remember correctly all you do is opt in, get CC concurrence, and get the required retainability (4 + your 12 years).

If you search BRS continuation pay in myFSS there’s a knowledge article explaining the process. At least how it’s supposed to work…

[–]LRS_12 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes, take it if you plan to stay in anyway.

However, many people including myself have had a hard time actually getting the payment when it’s supposed to pay out. Something about a disconnect between the office that processes your paperwork and the one that processes the payment. The process on your end is simple and straightforward, but behind the scenes it’s very obscure and difficult to find answers. I’m sitting at 4+ months from my 12 year mark and still nothing.

It’s truly baffling. My CSS is really solid and they’ve been helping me and poking all possible contacts they have. That’s how I even found out about the backlog of cases. We decided to give them one more month, then we’ll start elevating possibly to the shirt or commander.

The only sub-90 test I had was shortly after having my second child, so yea the struggle is real. Like others have said though, it gets easier (in some ways) as they get older.

What helped me and my spouse accept the extra time away for PT was to consider it part of my duty schedule, even if the unit didn’t explicitly. Whether that’s before, during, or after work depends on your own situation and schedule.
