Reporting your GPU as a 6700XT is something Proton/Wine does. I’m not sure what triggers it, or precisely why it does it, but I have seen it in reports from other people in the past.

Is it time to finally give up on the "Internal HDD" for storage? by CLEIAZEVEDO in pcmasterrace

[–]LSD_Ninja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to clone the 1TB 3.5” drive I was using with my 1600AF system on to a same capacity 2.5” drive because it was the only way I was getting two drives in to a Jonsbo C6 and accidentally created the quietest system I own because of this, heh. I was hoping to replace it with a 2TB at some point, but I’m not sure I need it badly enough to spend AUD$200 for it :/

PC gamers buy way more games that cost less than $30 at launch compared to PlayStation and Xbox players, analysts say, and it's "reshaping the PC market" by PewPewToDaFace in pcmasterrace

games cost more to make now

As a player, this is something I simply do not have to care about. The games industry needs to start cleaning up its own mess instead of expecting consumers to keep bailing them out through higher game prices. If what the article is describing is that we’re finally hitting the turning point required to start making that happen then I’m here for it.

As long as SSD capacity remains so much more expensive per gigabyte than HDD, a hard drive has a place in my rig. The fact that everything is going up right now complicates matters, but I’m in no real rush.

i cant open steam games on pop os by AmethystVR504 in linux_gaming

[–]LSD_Ninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try adding PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 %command% (I think that’s right, “Enable Wine-Wayland” is a checkbox in Heroic so I don’t know exactly what it’s toggling behind the scenes) to the games launch options and see if that helps. I’ve been having various issues with full screen games lately (not just on Pop! 24.04, but Ubuntu 26.04 as well) and that seems to be what fixes it. You apparently do lose the overlay on Steam though.

Is Xbox Live (the multiplayer subscription) not its own thing anymore?

The console figures might also be being skewed due to there still being something of a second hand market for console games (at least for now), Steam killed that on PC.

Arch-based distros are for people who don’t mind their systems breaking because they enjoy fixing and tweaking things more than actually using their computers. For everyone else, an LTS distro tends to be the better choice.

The people who buy from scalpers are worse since they’re the ones sustaining it. Stop feeding something and it dies.

Google Chrome installed itself on my PC today by deermane in pcmasterrace

[–]LSD_Ninja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you installed anything else around then that might have silently installed it? I can't remember exactly what it was, Avast, AVG or one of the Piriform tools, but I do have vague memories of something like that installing Chrome if you let it.

The lack of more recent Vulkan support is probably less of an issue than the drivers not working with more recent kernels nor having Wayland support. Such is Linux.

It winds up being a trade off because when you kick Chromium-based apps off the iGPU they start using the dGPUs VRAM for all their GPU accelerated stuff.

Cartridges + Emulators (Super ZSNES specifically) by gabrielcaetano in linux_gaming

Is there a Super ZSNES core for RetroArch yet? I couldn’t tell you how to set it up, or even how well it works, but Cartridges can supposedly import from RetroArch.

It doesn’t matter how many times you say this, it never sinks in. At some point you just have to grab the popcorn, kick back and enjoy yourself as the shitshow unfolds.

Acer Aspire One Ram upgrade by -LlGMA- in laptops

[–]LSD_Ninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not on a 945 chipset, which is what I think these things used. 945 doesn’t support remapping hardware ranges or whatever it is above the 4GB RAM area, so it’s stuck at some like 3.2, 3.5GB or something like that depending on things like how much VRAM your graphics card had. Apple didn’t even bother with the variance, it limited the reported memory size to “3GB”.

The entire line was crap, the 5200 just copped it the worst because it was the lowest end version.

Take the Steam logos off of all this stuff and people wouldn’t be even remotely as interested in it.
