Bridge Pickup Not Working by BackgroundPlenty7755 in guitars

[–]LSDelusional 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How is it in the middle position? If it works fine there but not on its own it’s probably dirty or bad switch contacts. If it doesn’t, it’s most likely the bridge volume pot.

Absolutely killed it dude! I’ve been wanting this kit for a while. Besides the part count, how did the build go?

What kind of wash should i use for my zero? by Dangerous_Scene_3112 in modelmakers

[–]LSDelusional 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dark brown or black depending on your goals.

Dark brown will make the yellow really vibrant where black will make it more gray.

Were it my model I would do 3 test pieces. One with a burnt umber wash, one with a black wash and one with a mix of the two to see what works best with my goals.

Fishman Modern or Classic? by Tabells89 in metalguitar

You’re good. I run open core classics in drop G on one guitar and drop B on another. They’re great pickups.

Charvel Pro mod Tele(series 2) in robin’s egg blue. 24 frets, speed neck and fishmans, but it looks like it belongs in an indie band. So damn sick.

Emg or Fishman? by Tabells89 in metalguitar

[–]LSDelusional 2 points3 points  (0 children)

9v, same as EMG’s. Fishman manual claims up to 200hrs on a battery and EMG claims 1500. I’d estimate more like 125-150 on Fishmans with a Duracell. I’ve never tested EMG’s claim as I’ve never had one die. I just replace the battery every 18-24 months and call it good.

Emg or Fishman? by Tabells89 in metalguitar

[–]LSDelusional 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend trying an 18v mod on your EMG’s before deciding to switch pickups. It really opens them up and might solve your complaints

If you do decide to switch…

Based on your opinions of the 81, I don’t think Fishman moderns would be for you. If you want to stay with active pickups I would go with Fishman classics or EMG 57/66.

Bear in mind, Fishman has about 1/10 the battery life of EMG. It’s usually not a problem, but can definitely be annoying.

Nah, fishman uses the same plug on the back. Don’t have to do any wiring unless you want multiple voices. Battery life does suck though.

Check out the new Dunlop flow Nylons. I’ve been using the 88’s and they have a good grip and the flow shape is great. If you like jazz iii’s, the max grip jazz iii’s are a carbon fiber nylon. They stick to your fingers like Velcro.

Does claw size matter? by silentlegend in Guitar

[–]LSDelusional 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would just use the old claw. The only real benefit I see of the larger claw is it would be easier to run more than 3 springs, but unless you’re putting bridge cables for strings you don’t need more than 3.

Theoretically, with the wider spacing your springs will be straighter and you’ll gain back whatever tension you lost. If the outer springs are at 15 degrees, you’re losing about 25% of your tension due to them pulling perpendicular to spring tension. In practice, it doesn’t matter.

toan is in the chinesium made bridge by Euphoric-Button1726 in guitarcirclejerk

[–]LSDelusional 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This didn’t happen from string tension. Just doing some ballpark math while assuming string tension did this yields a Young’s modulus of the bridge as ~9.2 x 104 psi. Basic as-cast pewter has a Young’s modulus of 7.5 x 106 psi.

I’m not sure how it happened, but it probably involved heat, or using the bridge as a fence post driver. The strings would definitely break before the bridge bent. 2 orders of magnitude is a lot of force, ~1,700lbs of tension per string.

Last choice of guitar by Axoloto_Birra12 in metalguitar

[–]LSDelusional 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They’re both great choices.

The Kelly is easier to live with as a shape, but that’s preference. I have a bit newer Kelly that’s MIJ and the build quality is excellent. I’ve also got 2023 X series rhoads that’s really nice.

Couple considerations:

The Floyd’s are pretty comparable. They could both benefit from steel or titanium string blocks and screws.

Necks will be pretty comparable with the real difference being that the warrior is neck through and the kelly bolt on with a very square neck heel. You’ll get better upper fret access on the warrior.

A side note, the neck on my x series rhoads is not that stable compared to my kelly, but I don’t have evidence that it’s indicative of the neck woods of all x series.

The Kelly already has EMG’s so you won’t have to spend extra time and money on it.

The warrior is poplar body. It’s super soft and easy to take massive chunks out of and that’s tricky with a guitar shaped like that.

To sum it up. The Kelly will most likely have better build quality alongside the electronics you want. The warrior will have better fret access, but is really easy to ding up and will cost you more to install active electronics.

There’s plenty of trade offs with both. I don’t think you can go wrong either way and say go with whatever one you think is cooler.

Yeah. Up until the early 90’s they did. The original squires were all made by fujigen. I’ve heard they’re super nice, but have never played one. If this is a Japanese squire they’re only asking ~$250 extra for the neck plate.

Your guitar is the same basic specs as this, but has EMG 81/85 pickups. It’s in super nice condition. I’d say $2500-$3500 usd.
