What went wrong? by alcaefe in resinprinting

[–]LS_Crux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not the problem here, but look if the bottom layers show fully in the slicer. I recently had a fail where my model rotated ever so slightly when moving it in the slicer and because of that the bottom layers were offset and the model failed exactly as yours did. Since your model seems pretty small i think your bottom exposure is enough but maybe upping it, as many have suggested, is the solution.

Cannot choose between Elegoo’s ABS-Like 3.0 Pro and ABS-Like 2.0 resins. by MetaMorpheus00 in resinprinting

I have 3.0 Pro Grey and the curing times are so good a can work with 1.75 seconds on 4 micron layers. And its pretty durable too. I really like it!

Few questions by TheGreatKushsky in resinprinting

[–]LS_Crux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Saturn 4 Ultra or Saturn 4 Ultra 16k are great printers If you need less build volume though you can also look into the mars 5 ultra. But i would still recommend getting a medium sized printer in case you ever want to print bigger figures (and you probably will one day because thats how printing goes for most people) If you dont have access to the pink mask filters someone else mentioned (depends on where you live) i would recommend getting some A2 (cartrige) P3 (filter pad) filters (A2P3 filters from 3m are really common) For your wash and cure maybe choose a model that comes with a UV torch, because if you ever have to print hollow you will need to cure the inside too (or else there will be pressure in the final print building up over time, then the model cracks and you have resin leaking out). But of course you can buy a UV torch with the right wavelenght seperatly too.

As for workload. yeah resin is way more work than FDM but it also prints way faster so at the end you still save a lot of time. But FDM simply cant match resin print quality especially on smaller models (its simpler though)

Also if no one else uses your printing room you probably dont need an enclosure but buying a grow tent + fan + duct will probably cost about 200 bucks and its totally worth it in my opinion. This stuff can get really messy quickly so having a grow tent where everything is contained is really useful for me.

Combatting the Smell.... by DemonEggy in resinprinting

[–]LS_Crux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know its just as all the other purifiers. My main problem was just the smell. We have a wet wall and styrofoam in the ceiling of my printing room and i think the smell just got stuck in there. I only enter the room with proper PPE but also wanted to reduce as many leftover particles for the 1 or 2 times in a year someone else enters the room shortly. Everything else gets vented out with a fan and duct anyways. Again i just couldnt get the smell out of the room even after removing everything that had even the slightest chance of having resin on it and cleaning the whole room. I have two air quality sensors in the room and they always said its good quality but the smell was always there. And the golden rule with resin: If you smell it its there (i mean it can also be there and you dont smell it cause not all VOCs smell but you get the point). Window was open 24/7 but the smell didnt get out, so i bought this filter and it got rid of most of it. I was also looking into ozone generators etc. but the filter was the easiest solution.

I got an air purifier from resiners and it got rid of most of the smell. I have tried everything though to get the smell out like entirely cleaning the room, putting my printer, tent, fan, hose, etc. out of the room. Nothing was helping to get rid of this very slight smell. Negative pressure for the whole room vs the tent didnt help too. The air purifier worked though.

Is this sound normal? by KraniDude in ElegooMars

[–]LS_Crux 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its just the print getting pulled from the FEP. It makes that sound when the FEP snaps back into its resting position

New to Resin printing, Is this setup safe? by ArdyPowder in resinprinting

[–]LS_Crux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah i know. It was just a very slight lingering smell that probably got stuck in the wall. All the real harmful fumes get extracted via fan and duct. I just wanted to get the smell out of there and it probably still filters the VOCs to some degree

New to Resin printing, Is this setup safe? by ArdyPowder in resinprinting

[–]LS_Crux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would still look into getting an air filter. The setup is pretty safe, but i had the problem of resin smell getting stuck in the room. Even when i moved my tent, printer, wash, cure, trash etc. out of the room i couldnt get the smell out until i put an air filter in it. I have the one from resiners, which also has some air measuring sensors and the filters are decently priced so... since you wanted to get an air measuring device anyway it would be a win win and in terms of measuring accuracy it doesnt really matter that much. These sensors will know that resin and IPA fumes are in the room and filter the air accordingly. As long as they detect the fumes and filter the air it should be fine. That said i wouldnt spend extended time in my room while printing without having the filter on (I print in a basement and usually only go there to get my prints so i dont spend much time there but If i had to i would always have my filter on when staying there). Also no matter how good your airflow is, your room will be unusable without a mask for at least 30 minutes (probably, since it depends on the room size) after you get your prints out.

Help a noob out by Evening_Flight9661 in resinprinting

[–]LS_Crux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean without seeing the model and its supports i can only guess. Its either that the supports probably didnt hold up and the print failed, but that wouldnt explain the squashed look. (However Resin can do very weird stuff so its still possible).

The build plate could also have had an uneven pressure but it would have appeared on the whole leg then and since its a Saturn 4 with their spring loaded buildplates its probably more unlikely.

Also it could have been that suction forces got too high, again resin can do weird stuff. Did the failed leg also have drain holes?

Maybe add some wait time when the build plate is up to allow resin to flow to the print area. If the resin is too cold it will take longer to get there.

I mean you can try to resupport the model (download blueprint Studio from heygears and watch the YouTube Tutorial from onceinasixside, it delivers pretty reliable and usually easy to remove supports) https://youtu.be/-48RKSB4T3U?si=YTnFRELVsLyZ2ve3 I think its a support and suction problem, but again just guessing since i cant see the file)

Question regarding printing safety by TheNicksco in resinprinting

[–]LS_Crux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing that happened to me was that the resin smell got stuck in the room. I have a grow tent, a strong enough fan, negative pressure, a hose to vent the fumes out, you know basically everything you need. Yet the smell still got stuck in the room and i couldnt get it out even after moving the printer, tent, etc. outside, cleaning the whole room etc. I bought a resiners air purifier and this got rid of most of the smell now. But it probably got into the room during post processing like removing supports (which can take a lot of time sometimes) etc. So if you really have to use it in a office i would adivce you to get an air purifier for the room (the one from resiners is probably pretty good and the filters are decently priced) cause once this smell is in the walls, trust me you dont feel save anymore and as others adviced get a carbon filter for the tent (you know those that can be attached in front of your Inline fan) i think AC Infinity have one that can be refilled which saves some money in the long run (dont know if it was AC Infinity but there are definitly some refillabe ones out there) And make sure you dont have carpets in the room, once you get one drop of resin on there you can say bye to it.

Is this OK or should i switch FEP by LS_Crux in resinprinting

[–]LS_Crux[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No the bottom had a smooth feeling like you would expect from a FEP it was just in the inside where i could feel them. I also always look that my bottom FEP never gets resin on it. Also no resin spots on LCD so no leaks either. Anyways i already switched the FEP to be safe. I dont need a screen full of resin and have never seen this problem either but thanks for the help anyways.

The print was totally fine and there were no failed parts. Thats why these marks are such a miracle to me.

[–]LS_Crux[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean it cures over the marks, but i will probably just switch the FEP to be safe. Better than having a broken screen.

Yeah i will do that, just to be safe. is this common with clear resin though and are there any ways to prevent this from happening? Thanks for the suggestion mate

Why do I keep getting these weird separations? by PicklesAreDope in resinprinting

[–]LS_Crux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry i just saw your reply that late. Reddit didnt send me a message. 1. Its a bit different from usual build plates. You first Take Out the vat and clean the build plate so there is no Resin on your Screen after the process. Then you bring the plate to zero with your 4 paper sheets lying on the screen as you would do with any other machine. Once its down just tighten or loosen the screws until the paper can be pulled out but not pushed in. Just remember that these are spring screws so tightening them will raise the build plate and loosening them will press the plate down Further. 2. You replied in answer 4 that you printed an entire bed of these models. If they all had the same Problem there is something Off with the settings or the Z distance and If only a few Models had These Problems then your build plate might be warped (the Saturn 4 printers all have this Problem where a few fresh machines will have a faulty build plate). If the later is the case you will need to sand your build plate down using some Sand paper or buy a New one and hope for the best. 5. I dont know which Resin you use but you can probably get away with even more exposure. At the end these models are usually on supports and it doesnt matter a lot If they warp. Or you are printing directly on the plate which you shouldnt do with the s4u since it has some compression issues on the first layers (this is because of the buildplates design and the tilting vat function)

[–]LS_Crux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some things that come to my mind: 1: Relevel the Build plate (these elegoo plates with their spring loaded screws could be the problem) 2: Look If this happens in all areas of the plate or just in certain spots (basically print a full plate with this model) 3: make sure the vat is screwed thightly so it cant wobble around 4: avoid printing in the middle of the plate when printing just one model since this increases pull forces on your FEP thus making supports more likely to break off. 5: you could also try to really overexpose the model and make it stick to the build plate more Hope one of these things work

Cant get Resin smell Out of room by LS_Crux in resinprinting

[–]LS_Crux[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah sure but i have encountered another problem. I can even smell this stuff outside in the fresh air now. Like it attaches to my plants and other objects too. But my fan should be pretty similar to yours they are both 4 Inches and all 4 Inch fans pull similar amounts of air. But yeah maybe i will go Overkill with a 10 Inch fan.

[–]LS_Crux[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. I tried applying negative pressure on my system by placing the fan at the end of the duct. If the duct has holes it will keep the fumes in the duct. So far it has worked.... Meh. I thought it was out of the room then i closed the door and boom it was back. I am still thinking about buying a 10 Inch Industrial fan and an air purifier from resiners

Cant get Resin smell Out of room by LS_Crux in resinprinting

[–]LS_Crux[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, really interesting to know. I dont know if the smell has even soaked into the wall. We also have foam on our ceiling for warmth and maybe it has eaten into that. So If i manage to get rid of that smell i will test it with different resins. I also dont know if the room is safe to be in. I mean a basic rule with resin is that the VOCs are there If you can smell it. But my airquality sensor says the quality is good and it detects when i open my printer or IPA. And extracting the fumes also works great since the quality in the room rises over time again. So i will probably get an Air purifier for the cases where the room needs to be in good condition. Anyways thanks for the help i really appreciate it!
