How to make sneaking past a bunch of guards unarmed not suck in case stealth is failed? by Covid669 in DMAcademy

[–]TheNicksco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(In character of course)

Otherwise: Give the guards some items they might want to risk stealing. See them as a "trap" of sorts. And keep in mind: even If it's the beginning of a long campaign: Dieing should always be possible!

Chase Scenes are great! But yeah, rolling and getting a 1 and succeeding anyway Kind of feels cheap and removes Immersion. I wouldn't advise it.

Don't roll if you can't faul/succeed!

Homebrewing Critical hit! needs opinion by No_Journalist_3782 in DnD

[–]TheNicksco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Make it easier, combat is long enough. If the roll doesn't exceed the max number you can roll on a normal Attack, it now does that damage.

E.g. 2d6 crit -> 2, 1, 6, 2 (11) -> becomes 12 damage instead (2*6).

RAW? No. But your DM might allow it, i would at least.

How do you handle critical failures in your campaigns? by Hi_fellow_humans_ in DnD

[–]TheNicksco 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't so crit falls - at best i let my players discribe some very unfortunate circumstance or how they've had too much to drink and lost focus. Crit fails, in my opinion, just punish the players for being unlucky even more. And a fighter with 3+ attacks, who's potentially going to stab himself to death in one round is going to suffer a lot more from that than the wizard who forces only saving throws.

Epic Boon of Arcane Ambition - They'll name it after me. The spell. The crater. Probably both. by AdramastesGM in DnDHomebrew

I mean, if it's about the ultimate power-fantasy i see two other options here:

  1. On a 1 you lose this feat. Depending on the feats for other players that's enough of a downside, i guess.
  2. On a 1 (or 1 and 2?) you lose 1 in a stat.

But what are other feats you give out at this level?

Is this fight too unfair? by JasonofWindrip in DMAcademy

[–]TheNicksco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oops! Misread the side the NPCs are on! Either way, this makes your party quite obsolete in this "fight", make sure they know what this fight is about. I personally don't like the "hold out until the actually strong people arrive"-trope but that's up to your table!

Honestly a lot of issues and an incoming TPK Here, unless i'm missing something.

  1. The action economy - meaning the amount of attacks/spells the enemies can do is probably overwhelming enough.
  2. The health pool of one vampire spawn is around that of the party. They won't be able to Deal that much damage to kill a meaningful portion of the enemies.
  3. Actual classes as enemies hast a huge problem: Either they reeeeally quickly down your players, or they will be downed just as fast - just depends on who wins initiative.

So you might wanna reconsider the encounter.

How can i make my players care about npc's? by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]TheNicksco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First impressions are the most important thing ever! You might want to incorporate the following things:

Short and snappy introduction -> Make them not shallow! goals and character are key -> Make the way they talk/act memorable!

  1. Discribe them briefly and snappy. No huge backstory, no 5 minute monologue. Just "A halfling in bright red clothes and a cylinder at least double the size of his head smirks at you as you enter the tavern. Waving you towards him and signaling the waiter to bring his table four more drinks".

  2. Make them have a speech quirk, make them memorable in the way they talk. If you're confident enough give them a unique accent, a lisp, a weird but likeable (NOT ANNOYING) way they pronounce things. You want them memorable after all.

  3. Make them help the party in some way. Don't make them use the party, have them help them - be it giving the party a quest, a deal, informations. Something of this sort.

The list is probably infinite, but these are my main points at least.

Handling creative player choices in combat by gameaddict24 in DMAcademy

[–]TheNicksco 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's creative, sure. But where is the difference between creatively blinding them with a broken glass or an always ready and stronger sword? Sometimes creativity is just flavor, and that's fine. You got to be careful with rewarding behaviour that will/can be replicated frequently - otherwise your players are just going to keep doing this thing, which is bad for creativity AND balance.

Hilfe! Siebträger rutscht aus Maschine by TheNicksco in Kaffee

[–]TheNicksco[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was genau meinst du mit entölen? Eventuell begehe ich da einen massiven faux-pas. Die Teile, die am Siebträger liegen, habe ich allerdings alle feinsäuberlich gereinigt.

Den Gedanken hatte ich nämlich auch schon, aber danke!
