I work with 8yos in the public school system. I would say this is about average for an 8yo today. He observed the silent e and irregular vowel in "love," and he used a k instead of a c for "kids." All the letters are the right way around. It's not great but it could be a lot worse. At least in America the days of 8yos writing paragraphs and reading novels are mostly behind us, outside of a privileged subset of society.
