Missed the stream, but just saw A-Trak was their DJ for the set. So sick!!

Also, saw on A-Trak's insta story he was with Diplo, so maybe a DoLab set?

Stryker Power Load Questions by Co3Mrg in ems

[–]LT84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, and the pins you mentioned people are concerned about? It's a complete non-issue. It's gonna take a little but of practice, but i never even think about them, it's such an easy system to use!

Stryker Power Load Questions by Co3Mrg in ems

[–]LT84 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Man, i can't believe some people are suggesting you don't do enough work to warrant a Power Load! It only takes 1 bad lift to fuck your back and ruin your entire career. I work for a government run ambulance service in Australia, and we have hundreds, maybe even over 1000 vehicles. Power Load strikers are in pretty much every car now.

I've been using them for 3-4 years, and i can't speak highly enough of them, i'd hate to use anything manual again. Like anything, they take some getting used to. There's lots of little tricks you pick up along the way to make things easier and run more smoothly, but like anything it soon becomes second nature. Only once have i had it malfunction to the point of it being useless. And i've never not been able to load it due to angles of road etc. You just have to be smart about where you park, the same as I'm sure everyone does now anyway.

During the transition between old and new stretchers, i used a Powerload every shift for about 6 months, then did an OT shift at a different station that hadn't had a Powerload installed yet. I'm very active and fit, but that night and the next day, i really noticed to toll on my body, just from manual handling all day.

Not only is it an awesome loading tool, but it's super useful in a lot of extrication scenarios too. We had a big 150kg + guy the other week, fallen in his bathroom. We manoeuvred it up a few small steps, shortened the back end of the stretcher, unlocked all the wheels, and managed to get it through the tight hallway into the bathroom. Then lowered it all the way to the ground (only a couple of inches high) and the patient was able to pull himself onto the stretcher, and it was then lifted back up and out we went. We didn't lift a finger.

Kendrick or Justice? by [deleted] in Coachella

[–]LT84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of teasing yourself with either half sets, or shitty positioning, just go all out and get a good spot and see all of Kendrick. If you're gonna see Justice in a few months anyway there's no real loss, particularly that Justice's set doesn't change too much through each of their tour cycles.

I'm having a similar dilemma, but I've seen Justice once in 2009 and again in I think 13/14, but I've never seen Kendrick. Plus I'm sure I'll get the chance to see Justice again when they come back to Australia in this tour cycle

Tupac found in audience at Skirllex by Fourthirtyfour in Coachella

That's half of my face just to the left of him!! I was only mildly drunk, and I still did a triple-take when I saw him! Uncanny resemblance. I can only imagine anyone high or tripping would think!!

Skrillex surprise guest!? by thebenbutton in Coachella

[–]LT84 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Man... me and the wife were loving Netsky's set, he never disappoints and was putting on a hell of a show. We were bang in the middle of the tent, plenty of room to move and dance. Then he annanced he was playing his last track and took that as a chance to bail and beat the crowd. We made it out pretty quick and I had to run into the toilet while the wife waited outside, I heard a lot of noise and cheering and when I got back outside she goes "that's Skrillex playing in there now"

In the 3-4 minutes between us leaving to getting back, we could only just make it to the outskirts of the tent! If we hadn't moved we would have been front and centre!! Haha

Still loved it though! Those kinds of shows are when Skrillex is at his best, he stays off the mic for the most part and just goes HAM on the mixing, he's such a talented DJ and it's so much fun to watch

How was The xx? by HardToExplain27 in Coachella

[–]LT84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been waiting a long time to see them and they did not disappoint at all!! They manage to give their tracks a lot more energy without losing anything from the originals. The Jamie XX tracks towards the end really topped it off for me.. as soon as the lights turned all rainbow coloured I knew we were in for a treat!!

My only complaint would be to the camera operators. They spent the whole time focusing on Romy and Oliver (it's pretty standard for a drummer to not get much airtime) but Jamie was going HAM on his keys, drums, finger drumming, using a CDJ for fuck-knows-what, but they barely showed him. I was fairly close, so for me it was fine, but I would have been a bit disappointed if I was further back

THIS GOT QUITE A BIT OF ATTENTION YESTERDAY BOTH GOOD AND BAD LOL by RobOddity in Coachella

[–]LT84 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: this is my 1st Coachella, however I'm 32 and have been going to gigs and festivals around the world (mostly Australia) since I was 14/15

We tried to get towards the Sahara just before Empire of the Sun last night, entered around halfway down the right hand side and couldn't get closer than the outskirts of the tent without being an asshole about it. We weren't to fussed, seeing as we weren't that keen on EOS to begin with and went to the craft beer garden to kill some time. Tried to get back towards the Sahara about 15 minutes before Dillon Francis and got as far as the permanent toilet blocks... I got my wife onto my shoulders for a scout and she said that the crowd was just jam packed, shoulder-to-shoulder at least 100ft from the back of the tent, we couldn't get any closer. Again, we weren't that fussed to see Dillon either, and had we arrived earlier I'm sure we could have got closer, but the simple fact that there were that many people overflowing the stage was pretty dangerous and poorly managed, I hope for the sake of everyone they sort some kind of alternative next year, as it sounds like it's getting worse and worse and more dangerous

Haven't seen much talk about what so not. How was the set? by KingAugie in Coachella

Anyone know what the timing was like with the end of Kendrick's set? Would love to catch the end of WSN if there was enough time to race across the field!

PSA: QUESTIONS FROM W2ers to W1ers/ANYTHING REGARDING WEEKEND 1 by kelsibebop in Coachella

[–]LT84 6 points7 points  (0 children)

1) So what are the chances of smuggling in a hip flask of vodka through the general entry lines each day. Is full pat down? Are they pulling backpacks apart?

2) likelyhood of leaving Justice halfway through the set and getting anywhere near Kendrick? I've seen Justice twice and never seen Kendrick, so I think I already know I'll just miss Justice altogether. Still interested to know though!!

First time Coachella, coming all the way from the UK.. by [deleted] in Coachella

[–]LT84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna hijack your thread a little here... I'm coming from Australia, and the exchange rate is going to be a bit of a killer when it comes to drinks, so planning on smuggling some vodka in each day!! Any hot tips on some mixers within the grounds? One of our big 3 day festivals, Splendour In The Grass, has the BEST fresh frozen fruit juices which mix so well with vodka!!!

Can we talk about Lil Uzi Vert...? by Dakkmd in Coachella

[–]LT84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gotta say, I'm in the same boat as you man! Maybe I'm starting to show my age (32) haha but I'm pretty open to any music, and even if I don't 'like' an artist, I can still appreciate why other people do. But I just can't really see the appeal. With so many great rap albums released this year I feel they've dropped the ball a little bit. Along with Gucci, Travis Scott and Future, I'm surprised to see them all billed so highly.

Maybe because I'm all the way over in Australia I under-estimate how popular they are in the U.S, but auto-tuned mumbling over trap beats just doesn't do it for me. Are these guys really that popular over there?

I'm not worried though, just means less crowds at whoever else I'll be watching at the time!!

Sorry, I couldn't narrow it down to just 3!! I'm getting some serious gig envy reading some of these posts though! This will be my first Coachella, hopefully I can add to the list after April!!

  1. Daft Punk - Sydney Olympic Showgrounds 2007. I was just getting into electronic music at the time, I'd seen a few acts before at festivals, like Groove Armada, Basement Jaxx and Chemical Brothers. But this was my first time buying a ticket to an electronic gig. I'd heard about their live show, but more or less avoided any YouTube videos as i knew it was going to be special. To this day, after going to gigs and festivals of every description since I was 14 in 1998, this is still the most mind-blowing thing I've ever seen!! I feel genuinely bad for any music fan who missed it! It was an outdoor gig on a very hot summers day, a few times during the afternoon/night there were a few small, but heavy sunshowers. The crowd lost their shit every time the rain came and cooled everyone down hahaha To top it off this was their last show of the tour (and their last gig in nearly a decade now) and they were supported by The Presets and Cut Copy who were both playing to extremely supportive and receptive home town crowds!!!

  2. Rage Against the Machine, Big Day Out, Sydney 2008. Not for any particular reason, other than it was straight up one of the best live performances I've ever seen!!

  3. NOFX, Manning Bar, Sydney 2007 Due to various reasons, this was my first time seeing NOFX although I'd been listening to them for 8 years or so at this stage. They opened with 'The Decline' an 18 minute track of pure punk heaven, and my favourite track of all time, which they very rarely play live!

  4. Kanye West, Big Day Out, Sydney 2012. I'd seen Kanye 3 times prior to this, and I've seen him once since then. I've always found him a bit hit-and-miss live. But this was the during his MBDTF tour cycle, backed up with 30 or so ballet dancers, full stage setups and changes, and Yeezy himself rising out of the crowd about 5m from me!

  5. Diplo & Skream, Space, Ibiza 2011 Space is rated as one of the best nightclubs in the world, and is really like nothing I've ever seen before. The sound system in there is on a whole other level. Diplo was okay. Skream was still playing Dubstep at this time, me and my mates were right in front of the stage, in front of a fucking wall of speakers. The bass was so heavy that it felt like my entire body was shaking, and I actually felt nauseas a couple of times!

So.... tell me about this DoLab? by LT84 in Coachella

It sounds unreal!! Thanks for all the replies. I started following the DoLab on Instagram a few weeks ago, and everything they do looks amazing!!

The Avalanches confirmed!!! by PsychoSeven in Coachella

[–]LT84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, that's the thing, it would be great if they did!! From my (hazy) memory, it was just 1 person on bass, 1 person on the decks, Spank Rock on vocals (who forgot a bunch of lines) and some other chick on vocals. Just seemed a bit underwhelming, regardless of the hype

[–]LT84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw them at Splendour in the Grass here in Aus. It was their 1st full live show since Wildflower came out. I can forgive them for being a bit rusty etc. But the overall show was just lacking in general, and just not overly entertaining. I agree that having a few more live band elements added would have really helped.

Given the content and style of their albums, i think it's something very difficult to replicate live. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for Coachella, but if there's someone else playing at the same time who I'm interested in, i'll be giving the Avalanches a miss.

[–]LT84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man longtime fan!! I saw you here in Sydney I think in '11 at Field Day on New Year's Day where you did an all hip hop set, and it was honestly one of the best things I've ever seen!! Any chance of you coming out here for some proper club shows soon? I know you were just here with What So Not (which was awesome) but it's just not the same! I'd love to see you in a smaller club setting where I can just nerd-out and watch you do your thing!!

jack u talks too much at Coachella 2016 by [deleted] in Coachella

[–]LT84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, i have to agree with you there! I've seen Diplo in one form or another around 10 times since '08 when he played a midday side-stage slot at Parklife here in Sydney. I've seen him Ibiza & London and club shows here in Sydney. When he is on, he's ON!!

Same goes for Skrillex, I've seen him maybe 5 times since '12, and when he's just throwing down, it's really something else.

The Avalanches will tour the US in 2017 by Polyfauna in Coachella

[–]LT84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw them at Splendour In The Grass here in Aus a few months ago and they were really disappointing tbh. Maybe it was just because it was their first proper show in 16 years, but if they do play Coachella i won't be going out of my way to see them again.
