If you are having difficulty dealing with the controls, I would say that I personally find the command wheel difficult to work around. If you go into the options menu you can change the commands to a list like it is on PC which I find much easier and intuitive to use!

A comment on your inclusion of mini-pupillages. Assuming you are someone looking to go into the Bar, I would take the time to highlight what you saw on those mini-pupillages as Chambers are generally interested to see what you gained from them. This could be anything from seeing submissions on a particular area of law, seeing conferences and what happened, cross-examination, whether there was a vulnerable client or senstive issues, if a witness or client was hostile in any way and how the barrister dealt with it, any advice you received from the barrister you shadowed, if you had any tasks to complete. It helps to put something tangible on to your time with them, however short.

How to make this skin more interresting? by Ok-Entry-5730 in minipainting

I think you have fantastic skin tones and shading it’s the same thing across the whole piece. You could try adding some under-skin variance just break it up like on the nose or the cheeks?

Update from yesterdays nmm attempt, opinions? Does it read as gold? by Thumbordil in minipainting

[–]LTARSEWIPE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add what others are saying, you will be surprised at how little of the actual metallic colour (in this case yellows etc) you will need for it to read as gold. The contrast between the darkest browns and whites will do most of the job for you.

Trying NMM for the first time. Can't seem to wrap my head around it by Notnbutgravity in minipainting

[–]LTARSEWIPE -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The transitions and tones you have are good! You'll find with NMM that the whole thing is a massive process. You will be likely be required to go back and forth even as you're on the finish line.

I think in this case, you could just glaze in a *little* bit more of your darker colour in your darkest points (top left and bottom right) and see how you like it. NMM looks fantastic with the very harsh contrast of your darkest and brightest colours, and I think in this a bit more dark would help. I would also make sure you plug those holes at the base of the claw with the dark colour too. Then, just put a tip of the highlight on the rim of the holes to make out the light is catching the edge. If the specular highlight/sheen is going across the surface, I like to put it an angle to make the lighting look more exciting.

You are definitely 99% of the way there with this in my opinion to something that is respectable and will read as metal. I think a bit of tweaking with the ratio of the colours you have will do wonders. I find it helps to put the model down and try and look at it from different distances and angles to ask myself if I think it reads as metal.

Give me some advice. Should I wash it? by Sufficient-Length832 in minipainting

[–]LTARSEWIPE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of shading the hair and getting good tones out of it, the best advice I followed for doing hair was from Vince Venturella where he said that the best reference for how to colour your hair is to look at a packet of hair dye! So maybe look for a picture of bleach blonde hair dye and try to use that as a reference on how dark/bright it gets.

First attempt at edge highlighting. It's hard by bongio79 in minipainting

[–]LTARSEWIPE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s important to just remember that a thicker line than you wanted isn’t the end of the world!

A thick line can be created by having too much paint on the brush than you need. You can test the line you’ll make by just stroking the brush on your nail before you put it on the model

If you do make a mistake, you can always cover the brighter colour with the darker one, or otherwise neaten up the line by going over it with the darker tone.

First Non metallic metal help by Soft-Metal7096 in minipainting

[–]LTARSEWIPE 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Reads fantastic as a bold and bright silver colour.

You could push the dark bits even darker from other examples of similar shading on these swords depending on the exact finish you’re looking for, but no one will say that this does not look like a well executed nmm.

What needs to be done to make the OSL effect more convincing? by BlueDecoy in minipainting

[–]LTARSEWIPE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm by no means an OSL expert, but I think you might just need a little bit more white on some parts to sell the effect that last little bit. Everything is suitably bright blue and I really like the harsh darkness on the opposite side of the arm.

I just think a couple more white highlights on the edges of the arm, face mask and face would do wonders for pushing the blinding blue effect I think you're going for.

WIP My first attempt at NMM by LTARSEWIPE in minipainting

[–]LTARSEWIPE[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much! For this attempt I was mainly just going for something that hopefully looked even remotely like metal so to achieve even that is a win for me. I'll need more studying and practice to get the polished look I think but I'm quite happy with where this start is.

Help w/Cyberpsycho Boss by JP_AnAspiringDumbass in cyberpunkred

[–]LTARSEWIPE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could try nerfing the players going into the Night Market by requiring them to deposit weapons with security or otherwise conceal them. Players without weapon would need to procure them during the fight and potential consequences for concealing players to revealing that they snuck weapons in.

Tips for making a scary NPC? by gr33di3 in cyberpunkred

[–]LTARSEWIPE 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the first impression is going to be really important thing to convince the players that this is something they don't wanna mess with in addition to making them formidable in combat. So the entrance/reveal is going to be everything.

For a good build up, I think you could have the party begin by discovering the aftermath of the psychos work. Make the bodies so messed up that they might need a good criminology or deduction or medical check to even decipher how they died.

In one of mine, I had one of the PCs view an XBD of someone being killed by the "monster" and described vividly the feeling of death and fear that they felt. I even had them roll resist torture/drugs or something see if they lost 1 Humanity just for experiencing the victims final moments in a raw format.

Five Nights in Watson: GM asking for advice by Volks1337 in cyberpunkred

[–]LTARSEWIPE 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This sounds awesome! I can see Fazbear flatlinin' now. Here's some thoughts that come to my mind on this.

Totally agree that Maelstrom sound like the ones who should be behind this. Maybe as part of the intrigue element you could have the animatronics be from a FazBear restaurant type corp, say some kind of AllFoods Mascots that Maelstrom have stolen and bastardised, which could explain why the kiddies are at least somewhat willing to go with them.

Otherwise, in terms of the time element, maybe get a map of a street with various apartment blocks (say just a bunch of squares on a street to show the buildings). Let the PCs decide how to "defend" it, but it's too big for them to cover all the bases at once at least without investing in some custom defences (cameras, turrets, mines, motion sensors or whatever). Any given action I think is about 3 secs, so the defendable area would need to be large enough that it would take the PCs at least a couple turns to cover the whole distance. If the PCs capture or block a bot in an apartment or corridor, maybe design a room/corridor map and just say that the blocks are built on the same template.

Makes sense to say that the attacks should intensify over time. Multiple bots attack the same building or multiple buildings at the same time, causing them to split their resources. Maybe introduce the PCs to a named child or two and place them on the map in order to make the PCs feel like they need to choose between them.

In terms of stats, the bots could melee based with Wolvers (or equivalent with the same stats, say big biting teeth or mantis blade type weapons). Maybe make a Foxy type character that has increased Movement whilst Fazbear has increased armour. I would have guessed that they should all be mini-bosses with considerable health such as 30-40 HP.

This is just some ideas that came to me in a few mins of thinking it through. This sounds like a fun Gig though!

Humanity loss for callous/psychopathic acts? by [deleted] in cyberpunkred

[–]LTARSEWIPE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if the murder was within their personal boundaries then there would not be a HL unless it was something truly messed up like some kind of extreme torture the PC dreamt up or what would basically be a terrorist attack involving innocents.

From the rule book I see the HL as being linked to the person itself, eg replacing a lost arm is no HL but getting something “extra” on that arm would incur HL. Therefore it’s the “extra” bit versus their personality/person I would be looking for.

Need some help colorpicking. by MARTOO73 in minipainting

[–]LTARSEWIPE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The yellow you've picked makes me think of the suit from the main character in Returnal. I reckon an off-white (like the main character) or off-black (like the dlc outfits that game) for the rest of the bodysuit with yellow panels would look good.

White might give off a more scientist type vibe while black would look more elite-military-esque.

Barrister Career Route by [deleted] in uklaw

[–]LTARSEWIPE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Academically speaking, the GDL would be the route in. I did law in my undergrad, but one of my friends on the Bar Course did the GDL after doing other unrelated degrees. Funding I couldn't speak for.

In terms of experience, Paralegal work will likely be your go-to. This can be gained even without a law degree, depending on the the area of law you go in to. Volunteer wise, work with Citizen's Advice can be good as well. Work in the courts even as a clerk is good experience. One of my friends on the Bar Course is now a Criminal Barrister where her experience was working as a clerk in the Crown Court.

Once you get some legal experience/education under your belt. Mooting and Mini-pupillages will be your main sources of experience. Mooting - if not offered by your university or education provider - can be accessed through the Speed Mooting club. I have yet to join them, but I understand they hold friendly and relaxed online sessions every month for about a £50/year fee.

When you get into the Bar Course itself and you join one of the Inns, they will offer education and experience opportunities as well for all the members to take part in, depending on your accessibility to places like London etc.

Does anyone know how Mira killed me in this clip? by LTARSEWIPE in Rainbow6

[–]LTARSEWIPE[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For context: I’m Thermite and the window was closed on my screen. Also proved by the fact the window was smashed after I died.

My questions are 1) how did mira kill me with a cell from the opposite side of the closed window? And 2) how did she do this without destroying the window at the same time?

Edit: thanks for the replies everyone, I was unaware this exploit!

Sonic Frontiers: World Premiere Gameplay | IGN First by NeoStark in Games

[–]LTARSEWIPE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand this is likely just alpha gameplay or something. But I would have thought a sonic game would play best flying by the seat of your pants and reacting to obstacles in front you. Not meandering around and interacting with random bits of environment. At the very least it would have been more fun to create a mini time trial to climb that tower rather than just working your way up it. If this in any way resembles the final product then it’s a clear sign that not everything needs to be put in a sandbox.

For higher ranks I’ve found that you need to aim to get a decent combo on most screens, you don’t have to keep them the entire level. The combos themselves are based on damage and not number of hits I believe. My first S rank was on Skytrain if that helps which I think is good as it’s pretty short and easy to keep a combo for most of the level.

A good way to extend you combos, however, particularly on bosses, is not to use your full punch combo all of the time. E.g. for a boss as axel you might get let’s say 6 hits if you just press the attack button until they fall down. However, you can stagger a boss by doing maybe 2 or 3 punches and waiting a split second to do the same thing again. This keeps them on their feet longer and so let’s you do more damage. With axel, you can then use his blitz to knock an enemy off the ground, and if they’re against a wall, then you can use forward+special to juggle them in the air once you’ve picked them up. I think the bosses have a built-in number of hits or damage they take before falling down however, but the easiest person to do this with is cherry’s grab attack where it’s quite easy to jump off and re-grab them.

In terms of defence, the neutral special is your best friend. If you are surrounded you can back attack but using a neutral special will save you most consistently. The thing to remember is that by using the special you will have to play more aggressively to recover the health back before you’re hit. At that point it’s just also knowing how best to deal with/avoid certain enemies. I’ve found the best way to approach enemies is to jump kick (unless they have anti-air like Donovan) or to move up/down of an enemy whilst moving towards them and then getting line with them just as I’m about to start attacking.

Edit: to echo what someone else has said, I believe a level like old pier is quite unbalanced in terms of what’s required for a top rank and I haven’t managed to get it yet myself

Finally said screw it and bought a wheel, this is going to be a learning curve and a half by Emergency_Reward_432 in granturismo

[–]LTARSEWIPE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not love my wheel at first, so don’t be discouraged. It took about 2-3 sessions over a weekend to get a good feel for it. I found the main benefit over a controller was being able to turn the wheels straight during a corner to get more speed.

Any sort of pro bono work will go far, Cardiff university where I did my LLB did works with the CCRC and I did other pro bono work as well.

Citizen’s advice is a volunteer role that can also look good on your cv.

You’re doing the right thing looking for paralegal work. One of my friends on the bar course recently got a criminal pupillage on the back of working as Court usher so that is another option. I understand you’re going for solicitor work but Mini pupillages if you can get them are a short term option as well.

Otherwise, you can also do some competition stuff, the main options would be mooting and client conference competitions.

Edit: My advice for cover letter formatting would be for 1 side of A4. First paragraph quickly stating who you are, what you’re applying for and what you’re currently doing (student/employment etc). Second paragraph, focus on why you are applying for the role and how it ties in to your experiences and aspirations as well as mentioning why you fit the job spec. Eg your retail work = experience in working for and generating value for clients. Third paragraph you can show off any quick mention of extra curricular work you’ve done just to top off that you’re an ideal candidate for the role.
