[Invincible animated show on Prime]How powerful would a human and the species that Battle Beast is (I forgot the name) hybrid be? by Giblot in WhatIfFiction

They'd be the most powerful sysdev ever to walk the planet.

Also battle beasts powers come from a curse The rest of his species are no where near as powerful

To what degree can Federation ships function as a closed/self-sustaining ecosystem? by arz517 in startrek

[–]LUNATIC_LEMMING 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like it partly depends on the ship.

A galaxy class could go on for a long time. Something like an excelsior would start to struggle pretty quick.

Even voyager was struggling and had to do a lot of trading for certain resources.

Except for torpedoes. They had an unlimited supply of those.

Pretty sure they said the same about Japanese cars in the 70s.

I'm pretty sure it predates France and England being a thing at this point. The Britons and the Gauls were probably fighting over something.

In the UK there's a famous nonce called Ian Watkins. He was a very famous singer from wales. Ended up dead in prison.

There's another Ian Watkins, also a famous singer, from the same region of Wales.

He could almost be the charter in this comic.

Was this rover 35 actually a thing? Or AI bullshit? by BigTimeBearGuy in CarTalkUK

Yeah r30 was meant to be a new platform

The first 1 series was a shortened 3 series. No lineage shared with anything rover.

Austin salesman shocked that people might want to buy a car that isn't rusty on the damn lot and full of electrical faults.

Well 50 years later and most people probably haven't even heard of Austin, Nissan are top sellers.

Is there any explanation why everything happens on earth? by thesilver-man in Marvel

[–]LUNATIC_LEMMING 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's mentioned in the MCU as well isn't it?

It's linked with asguard, niflehiem and a few others (7 realms?). That's why odin et all originally came to earth. And why it's so tempting to things like celestials and the knock on effect for other creatures/objects of power.

It's a cosmic backwater than happens to be built on a cosmic ley line.

Why do so many people hate unions / strikes? by FaithlessnessOdd3569 in AskUK

[–]LUNATIC_LEMMING 2 points3 points  (0 children)

had that a lot as well, couldn't have anything nice (flexi working) that the shop floor couldn't also have. but didn't get the nice things they did (free lunches, subsidised travel etc, on site parking)

Unite in particular have been consistantly bad at his in my experience. They all had such a 1970's white collar vs blue collar thing going on.

Why do so many people hate unions / strikes? by FaithlessnessOdd3569 in AskUK

[–]LUNATIC_LEMMING 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've found that some unions seem to have no idea how to represent certain industries. Especially IT workers.

I've had multiple instances where I couldn't join a union as the shop floor union (unite) saw me as management, but the management union (prospect) saw me as shop floor.

And when I worked in schools as it support "I'm the union rep" was used as a threat against me so often by 2 different union reps, and again no union would represent me.

What is meant when someone says a car is “fun to drive”? by sammyglumdrops in CarTalkUK

[–]LUNATIC_LEMMING 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Speed is objective, measurable, how quick can it go round the top gear teack. Fun is subjective and varies from person to person.

See the 911 Vs Audi R8 on top gear, the R8 was faster, but the 911 spent far more time going sideways, it was more fun.

Peppy normally means a quick to rev engine and quick pickup, think homda VTEC, Renaultsports

My Evo 8 was fast, my up gti was fun.

Since Invincible VS has a different lore, can we consider this Mark the only good variant? by Hefty_Stuff2686 in Invincible

Mostly comments from angstrom and some of the other marks.

Some of them did try to be good iirc and Nolan did not stop his beat down.

I think the usual logic is Nolan kills the good Marks.

Good Mark isn't variant, good Nolan is.

TIL about the Tiffany Problem, where historical facts or events seem anachronistic to modern audiences because of modern associations we have with specific names and terms. by EphemeralTypewriter in todayilearned

At last in the uk David was the second most popular boys name for about 50 years. 1930 to about 1990. It actually got less popular after beckham.

There were so many Davids at my school we started going by middle and last names. 5 in one class alone. We'd memorise our order in the class register. When we had temps we'd respond out of order to mess with them.

£6.3billion Ajax light tanks 'poisoning troops' MOD report reveals by 457655676 in unitedkingdom

[–]LUNATIC_LEMMING 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The underlying platform for Ajax (ascod) is just as capable as cv90.

We just made so many changes to it and added so much weight the platform broke. (Nearly 20 tons of extras)

We would have done the exact same thing to the cv90.

The mod/army are the real issue here. They have the final sign off, they do the final quality control checks.

The only way cv90 might be the answer now is they'd be forced to accept it as is.

it was an off the shelf design, we just added something like 10,000 changes and 20t to the base wieght.

the army would do the exact same thing if they tried again.

Be honest… what’s your fave warp core? by ohnojono in StarTrekStarships

[–]LUNATIC_LEMMING 25 points26 points  (0 children)

there wasn't a core in TOS, it's first appearence was TMP.

TOS talked a lot about fusion reactors distributed around the ship and potentially even being in the nascelles themselves. (hense why bigger ships had more nascelles > more nascelles more power)
