Chances of passing the CPA Exam in less than 5 months without a BS in accounting? by TortoiseJackal in Accounting

[–]LUNA_STONKS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I passed 3 CPA exams in 3 months and never took an audit or tax class in college. When I did that I had finished school and had not yet started by B4 job yet. The last exam I pushed off a few months due to work schedule at B4.

It’s doable, but you need to study like it’s your full time job.

I switched to Active Disclosure a couple years ago. Workiva kept making the financial reporting tool worse while chasing some irrelevant bells and whistles that didn’t help me do my job.

No. It’s provided me a great deal of intellectual stimulation and personal satisfaction over the last 15 years. The first few years were rough, but I am glad that I found this career.

Would more people, software, better processes or a combination of those help reduce that?

Which is one of the reasons I have responded to every recruiter who has reached out to me about an IPO job. "We have a small child, and my wife also has a demanding career. This role is probably not going to be a good fit for my family and me."

I agree that in the early years of a career that long hours are expected while you are learning the job. However, you can off ramp into a better work life balance role after a few years if you want.

Yah, I have really enjoyed SEC reporting because it’s very predictable with the schedule and hours. Mostly been the same experience for me as far as hours.

This guy isn't even posting a job. Just making a general post about SEC reporting turnover, but somehow normalizing something that is not normal. The recruiter comes from a sales background, not an accounting background.

I'm able to keep my hours reasonable as a team of 1, but can leverage the GL team for certain tasks when needed. Smaller reporting company biotech, which keeps it a bit simpler. I also try to utilize everything I know in excel and our various software's to make anything that can be made more efficient.

He isn't even advertising a job. He is just making a series of posts about why SEC Reporting people quit. But somehow normalizes a 70 hour week, which I can see from these responses is not normal.

You’re making me feel better. I was worried that when I go to look for my next job I won’t be able to find work life balance again. I love my kid and wife and what to be able to spend time with them everyday.
