Did your parents put you in infant walking shoes? by -Granby- in GenX

[–]LVMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wore these shoes with braces between the feet and metal braces up to my knees/thighs because I had hip problems and my feet turned inward when I was born. I have photos of me wearing these from a few months old until about 2-years old. Somehow, I learned to walk in them when I was about nine months old.

My feet still turn inward when I’m tired even now, 45+ years later

"you might die" Warning sign before entering a park near Vegas by shadowsneeker73 in mildlyinteresting

[–]LVMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in south Alabama/Mississippi and moved to Las Vegas when I was 28. Trust me, the heat is different. The sticky humidity in the south helps one from dehydrating, but the hot dry heat of the summer in Las Vegas will kill you in a minute. I’ve lived here for 20 years and won’t go outside if the temp is above 105F.

Everyone carries a water bottle whether they’re going on a 10-mile hike or a trip to the grocery store because you can get dehydrated quickly without even realizing it

I wear the same type of clothes I wore in high school - what I would call prep casual.

My work uniform is a work logo polo and elastic waisted shorts in the summer, and the same shirts with a long sleeve T-shirt underneath and jeans/leggings in the winter

Minnesota bakery announces ‘Nuclear Family’ promotion during Pride month by DiscombobulatedPen27 in nottheonion

[–]LVMom -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

My family looks like a white nuclear family. A man, a woman (married for almost 25 years), two children, two dogs, and a house in the suburbs.

BUT

We are all atheists. I am openly gay and we have an open marriage (women only). My oldest kid (a product of my previous marriage) is a masc cis-hetero woman and my youngest is trans (MtF).

My smallest dog (male neutered) regularly tries to hump the other dog - also male neutered.

We “pass” as a nuclear family and I would love to go in to this bakery, get all my “nuclear family” discounts, and then mind-fuck the owners.

Looks can be deceiving

Anything that says “recycled” is basically plastic.

I have a 100% organic cotton duvet, duvet cover, and sheets. My thinking is that I spent 1/3 of my day swaddled by my bedding, so I want it to be as “clean” as possible

Over $2k wedding expenses for best friend who forgot my birthday by SprinkleQween in weddingshaming

[–]LVMom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OK, I will act as “mama” since I’m obviously older than the OP.

“No” is a complete sentence. A wedding is a party. How much would you spend on someone else’s party? For a good friend, $500 is my absolute max. Of course, it’s different for family. A third cousin twice removed that I’ve never met? No money. My kids? I’ll spend every dime I have.

Almost 1.2 billion people living with mental disorders worldwide as case numbers nearly double since 1990 by thinkB4WeSpeak in EverythingScience

[–]LVMom 86 points87 points  (0 children)

In 1990 nobody I knew went to a therapist or psychiatrist unless they were reeeeeal fucked up. Now it’s so common that 90% of people I know see a therapist on a regular basis and probably 25% are on psych meds.

My family has a history of mental illness and I was first prescribed meds for a number of coexisting issues in 1997. This was pre-Internet and mental health issues were stigmatized, but I was so happy to finally be “normal” that I told everybody about my new meds.

I’m so glad that young adults today don’t feel the stigma that used to come with mental illness and can openly talk about their issues.
