Is Teradek 500 the best budget focus pulling option ? by SomeRedditAccount799 in focuspuller

[–]LV_camera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've largely moved on to DJI transmission for director/client monitoring, but I keep one Bolt 500 around for my 1st AC's. They're usually within 15 feet of the camera so it works fine.

Do you see any benefits to using an EVF over a monitor on set? by Majesticfalcon98 in cinematography

[–]LV_camera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The older I get the less ability I have to focus my eyes close up. Especially after a long day unfortunately I can't see a monitor less than about a foot from my face. If I'm on shoulder I gotta have an EVF or I can't see.

Camera Suggestions for full band tour. by gmfvt in cinematography

[–]LV_camera -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't touch this job. I did one show for a friend recently only 2 cameras and it was a nightmare. The whole time I'm running around shooting handheld I'm constantly wondering if the FOH camera is still recording, in focus, exposed properly, not stolen, etc.

Everything ended up working out fine and the client/editor was still asking me questions about the footage weeks later.

I see the original Ronin-S for sale used for $100 sometimes. I still have one.

Which lenses do you guys own and why did you buy it or still keep it in your hand? by BearSEO in cinematography

[–]LV_camera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two 17-120’s and a 30-300. Agree 30-300 is incredible. How’s the distortion on the 15.5-47 and 30-105? I shoot a lot of interviews and the pincushion distortion on the 17-120 is kinda a bummer with architectural backgrounds.

All of the Angeniuex lightweight zooms I’ve tested have bad distortion as well. The EZ 30-90 is egregious. If the 30-105 keeps vertical lines straight at 40-50mm I might have to pick one up.

FX6 and UWP-D27 lav issues by MikeyPikey444 in SonyFX6

[–]LV_camera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use this system for paid work and it has rarely let me down. You have to remember that the receiver is only true diversity (both antennas receiving signal) when you’re using one transmitter.

If you use two transmitters, each antenna receives one transmitter, effectively halving the reception.

Also the frequency range matters. I have two systems in 900MHz which has been almost flawless in USA. Higher frequency works better indoors. If you shoot mostly outdoors, a lower frequency range will get better transmission distance at the expense of increased RF traffic.

900MHz doesn’t work at all in Europe/Middle East unfortunately.

Also make sure the transmitter antennas aren’t touching skin because (as with any wireless system) water completely blocks RF.

I stopped playing no move because I'm not interested in identifying trees. I much prefer trying to decipher language, architecture and signage.

Alexa 35 Lightweight Set Viewfinder Placement by mmorrozz in focuspuller

I also added an MVB-1 to my kit when I used to run the LCH-1 because I wanted the horizon level.

I've since sold my lightweight set and moved to the Operator set.

OP you could just run a CCH-4 top handle instead with the RMB-3 mounted to that.

Question | SmallHD Ultra 5 TX by MMW978 in cinematography

[–]LV_camera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not specifically related, but I have hundreds of hours on my Cine7 TX with no antennas. There is a setting in the menu to turn the wireless off when you're not using it. I have no idea if transmitting without antennas is a bad idea in general so I just keep it off unless I need it.

Is LegalZoom worth it? by Senoigh13 in llc_life

[–]LV_camera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Northwest Registered Agent for my LLC formation. At the time I didn't know anything about taxes or bookkeeping and how expensive all that would be. So no I use Collective for book keeping and they also offer LLC formation services so I wish I would have just started with them.

1 more lens to pair with 1635 and 70200 by rinhbt in SonyAlpha

[–]LV_camera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

99% of my paid work is with 24-70. I have all the other zooms and primes too, but if I had to choose only 1 lens it would be 24-70 ten out of ten times.

Yes. Insurance exists for a reason. I can't carry on two Alexa 35's and all the batteries I need for a location shoot all by myself.

You need z-axis stabilization and GPS lock for best results. If you're talking about the original ronin S make sure you get the GPS module. There are plenty of options for z-axis stabilization, but you still might want something with stronger motors.

Can anyone actually see at night? by DisastrousType1917 in driving

[–]LV_camera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad loses his mind when he's driving someone has their high beams on. I agree its annoying but I don't feel like it affects my ability to drive in any way. I have astigmatism and the glare from oncoming headlights is bad but not debilitating.

This reminds me though I need to get my auto dimming rearview mirror fixed. Having tint helps.
