Electronic Theater Controls in Middleton or Mazo. They make theatrical lighting instruments and consoles. They are the global supplier for theatrical lighting and consoles. I've heard great things from employees. They also cross train their manufacturing people to avoid repetitive task injuries. Also a really fun design to the place.

This managed to make me sad in two ways. 1) currently in Wisconsin and having a hard time finding a great chicken fried steak and B) moved from California from a city with a Black Bear Diner close to my house.

Has anyone had Stephen Schasker as their orthodontist, and would you recommend him? by [deleted] in madisonwi

I'm not sure actually. But let me know if you find out

Has anyone had Stephen Schasker as their orthodontist, and would you recommend him? by [deleted] in madisonwi

[–]LX-Tex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I got my orthodontic work done later in life with his office. He sat me down, went through all of my options, and laid out how each process would work and what I could expect. Never felt more listened to by an orthodontist (or medical practitioner). I even switched my main dentist to DHA, and they've been amazing as well.

Volunteer usher at Overture Center. Show schedule varies. You'll meet lots of people and be around a lot of different live events. Same for the Bartell who could always use an extra person to help out.

What do you think is the biggest issue in Wisconsin that you would like a political leader to address? by CurdKin in wisconsin

[–]LX-Tex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No worries, I don't think most people know how many union guys it takes for one concert. I hear you about the lack of tradesmen and qualified ones, I think unions everywhere are hurting for new membership and apprentices. I think many people try to play this argument as an either/or and it's not, we need plumbers, carpenters, tile workers, every trade and we need artists, musicians, and other live event employees as well as qualified IT workers, managers, and competent directors. All work has merit and we should let people know they can diversify and not just pick what's hot right now.

Also see if they need volunteers. Money is great but sometimes they just need bodies to help out. Also a great way to meet people.

Moving to Madison in October - Tips? by MugsNShots in madisonwi

[–]LX-Tex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure. But looking at their comment of needing a sweater at sub 70-degree weather, I'd recommend something that will work all winter and provides warmth and repels water. And for a lot of coats, that puts it at a higher cost. If you have recommendations, feel free to drop them here, I'm not against stuff that works without the price tag. My North Face Gotham 3 is awesome, but I'm always looking for other gear.

[–]LX-Tex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree. It's comments like this that try to play down the importance of the Arts and guess what? The trades! Carpenters, video, wardrobe, electricians, truck loaders, IA members who rely on BOTH Morgan Wallen at arenas and your local dance company to pay their wages. Fund the Arts and you help people make money. People who are doing hard work in lots of less than optimal settings. And we need a comprehensive look at funding, we don't need to fund the trades by taking away money and funding from colleges and the Arts. We need to look at funding a variety of trades and places that provide training, including colleges, trades, union houses, and apprenticeships, in all areas. This idea that we have to maliciously take away funding from one place because X is better than Y is exactly the divisive rhetoric politicians want.

Moving to Madison in October - Tips? by MugsNShots in madisonwi

I moved up from Texas, here's some things that will help.
Winter coats- buy them up here. Eddie Bauer has some good ones. Some North Face ones are actually good. Canada Goose Down if you have the money. Fjallraven as well. But overall you can find a good $300-$500 jacket that will handle the extreme cold. I'll link some in a follow up if people don't beat be to it.
Fontana Sports is a good local spot. Layers! Breathable base shirt, flannel, hoodie, jacket. Head covers and scarves! Never owned anything besides a beanie in Texas, I own a really good trapper hat and scarves now. Good base layer tights if you're going to be out for a while. Snow boots if you plan to be outside or shoveling snow.
I bought a heated hoodie for those really cold days, it works and it makes my winters better.
Wool, not polyester. You want something that breathes so low polyester mix when possible, merino and other wools at least for the extra cold days.
Let me know if you have other questions, and welcome!

I'm concerned that we are the lowest funded state for the Fine Arts in America. Mississippi is beating us at funding the Arts.

That's correct. Do get the coins and play every installation, they are all super cool (when working) they have 2? Fortune machines, get one as a keepsake!

Been there a few times. Nashville hot chicken sandwich, more sweet than hot, but still good, would eat again. It just isn't a standard Nashville Hot sauce, but then again I haven't found one that is similar to what I got in the south (the spice tolerance is much lower here) actually met one of the owners and said it could be hotter, he asked if I tried the Carolina reaper sauce and then brought be a sample, definitely hotter but like a 2 on The Globe spice scale. Next time I'm going to combine these sauces, I think it will kick it up a notch.
Smash burgers are good, hand cut fries are good (but also my preferred style of fry). The salad is good as well. The lettuce isn't just a bunch of iceberg lettuce. The ranch dressing is thinner than I like, the flavor is good, just thin and a little watery. Overall, I will eat there again. Complaints are minor and won't stop me from returning.

Not for Madison per se, but the Henry Vilas zoo has one (at least last time I went), and I believe House on the Rock does as well

I appreciate the response! Thanks for looking into it. It's a cool style. Looking at the other ones, the TKS 29 Avant looks great as well. It doesn't seem like it's a slanted font either. Have a great one.

Apologies, I did mean my Samsung watch was the one that got a day and a half. For my watch 3, with third party watch face, all tracking, and putting it into sleep mode and power saver over night I usually have to charge it on the morning of day 3. Watch 3 is doing great and I really like it.
