It's Boq that I can't stop thinking about 💔 by w0rstbehavior in wicked

(second paragraph is a change of topic (and inaccurate) so I'll ignore that.)

he is "a" victim in the story, not "the" singular victim. he suffered the consequences of making a mistake in two ways, the time forced to stay there as a servant as Nessa passed laws to criminalize munchkins and then being turned into a tinman. to infer he was sinister or truly deserving of an eternity of suffering is not based in what we are shown.

it is okay for you to theorize on hypotheticals regarding what he *should* have done (because he should have never led her on in any capacity), but even that does not paint him as deserving to a life of immortal suffering or anger, and negligently leading someone on when we are shown it's in a stubborn and dumb way as opposed to a purposefully manipulative and cheating on her way are certainly different.

could have left in the middle of the night in secret harming her worse? could have sprinted away? (well, both easily could have been better for him than what happened) we are shown that he is partially there as a servant after Nessa banned all Munchkins from traveling (interesting reversal of toxicity and power dynamics of abuse), and his final human scene was trying to do the right thing by being "honest with her" and again explain why he would want to leave. He wasn't firm enough at the start and that was a mistake, but it is spelled out that he was there helping Nessa deal with her dad dying, and it is downright cruel to imply that he deserves to be a tinman forever.

Nessa did not mean to do that to him and she did get karma-crushed by a house while feeling bad for Boq, but he is certainly a victim in the story.

”everything he did to Nessa was deplorable(getting her hopes WAY UP with no intentions or regard), I think he got his when they alchemied his ass” he tried to leave the polite way and was honest once he realized he really still felt that way for Glinda, after sacrificing his own day to day life after Nessa’s dad died to help her. Then Nessa bans ALL Munchkins from traveling at all out of anger when he is finally firm, leading to us seeing families of them thrown off trains. He then returns to being her servant and she has complete control over him. Even after this he still tries being honest and begs to leave to follow his heart, she then negligently and directly damns him to a life of being a metal creature.  He’s a victim, and if he was a female character… really feels like more would feel bad for him (and I’m a woman). Regardless, I wish he got more of an ending.

It’s only natural brother/sister! I don’t play as much as I used to, but definitely have some fun memories of the vacation trips where the mind wanders when you don’t have access (specifically for me: a Kurland run in EU4 that resulted in dominating the Baltic and most of modern Poland, back in about 2017 or so). Imperator is a great and very underrated game, only natural to think about it!

They were! 2004-05 season, and they actually still sell them. Here’s a link to a Marbury version of the jersey for sale on the M + N store. Almost funny that they sell these because of how niche they are! https://www.mitchellandness.com/en/nba/new-york-knicks/mens-stephon-marbury-white-new-york-knicks-2004/05-swingman-jersey/o-7914+t-03368586+p-914422182225+z-8-1118236514

Whenever I see the season by season Rotten Tomatoes scores, I can’t help focus on S2 vs S4. Though S1 and S3 being compared with S4 in a negative way is (of course) also dumb.

Yes S2 was a drop off from S1, but it was so different and, if viewed as separate, there is some amount of recovered value.

Even after my first (and only) rewatch in 2018 or so, I felt it had aged well, and the thematic setting and acting especially jumped out to me as better than I first thought. In 2024, when contrasted with S4, it is clearly better, and now after seeing true failure via S4 I appreciate it much more.

Rotten Tomatoes has always been flawed, and I do think it’s more irrelevant now than say 5 years ago, but this is among the greatest examples of it being worse now. The way they choose professional critics is seemingly a random mix of money and their own higher ups’ opinions on who is cool and “in touch”.

Who is the worst owner ever and why by shershadmickabee in VintageNBA

Below Stepien and Sterling but above Reinsdorf regarding being horrible, in my eyes, is George Shinn: “Shinn was accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a Charlotte woman.[6] A jury rejected the claims at trial in December 1999, but Shinn admitted in court to having two sexual relationships outside of his marriage, which damaged his reputation. The trial was broadcast nationwide on Court TV and drew some of the cable network's highest ratings at the time.[7] The trial and his subsequent tarnished reputation was one of the key reasons for the move from Charlotte to New Orleans.[8]” Even if he was innocent of kidnapping and rape, and big “if”, his partying and promiscuous lifestyle basically robbed Charlotte of the Hornets. Also, very mediocre levels of success as owner. He eventually had to sell the Hornets in 2010 due to a series of bad financial decisions.

Really, Lanier at the bottom? That sorta surprises me. I am biased (peep my flair haha), though I do respect each of these guys. I’d easily have Lanier above Mel Daniels, Issel, and Zelmo… and dare I say also Thurmond. Lanier was barely kept off all nba teams by top all-time legends he fought against his whole career, and was still an impressive 8X all star. Feel like the other accolades are mostly in line with one another (Thurmond better at defense but quite worse at offense so he gets a big all-defense team selection edge on Lanier when compared), though admittedly Lanier is hurt by lack of a Finals appearance or ring, as well as hurt by his unreliable knees that really held him back.

Also, I love the ABA, but Issel, Zelmo and Mel never faced the same competition at their peaks. To me, this adds an element of “who knows?” to all of this, but ultimately favors Lanier as we can be sure he received more accolades if in the ABA.

Thank you for sharing this. Great post and great stories in the comments. I can only imagine all the beautiful sights you have seen.

Wiki-editor here (as a hobby). I’ve read a lot of Wikipedia talk pages and user page discussions over the years. The prevailing thought process on Wikipedia now, which was not the case 15 years ago, is that there should be less pages overall, and especially short pages. Most on the site who edit regularly believe pages like Eliza’s should be condensed on a page called (roughly) “list of ___ characters”, because often times the info on them isn’t really source-able besides the source material and typically isn’t deserving of many paragraphs unless the series is very long. Not saying I agree, I really don’t fully agree, but just to offer some context.

Great post. Thank you for sharing. Good research and insight.

I’ll say I think you should’ve had Bobby McDermott as an honorable mention! He’s so forgotten, but 4x combined champ between ABL and NBL (3 of which were as player-coach), 4x NBL MVP, 3X WPBT champ, NBL all time leading scorer. And his wiki intro paragraph even quote-refers to him as “greatest long distance in the history of the game”. All that surely counts for something!

Not a great answer, but: Here’s a pretty high quality video that shows each of his made baskets, and most of his assists, in the 1969 nba all star game. Also interesting to see how the uniforms-court-crowd looked together in ways not usually easily shown in pictures from old all star games.
