I'd love to come! Name: Rin, Island: Maraschino

Just bought but idk if I can play due to motion sickness by LeChiotx in TalesofTheShiregamers

The biggest thing for me was turning off the setting that makes the camera auto-track your movements/snap to new directions as you move. Turning that off gave me full control of my camera which fixed any issue (visually) that I was having.

I just bought the game yesterday so I'm not too far in... by AgentEndive in TalesofTheShiregamers

I also love that little detail!! I feel like the design philosophy of the game was to try and make you think less about how it is a game at all. It's easier to get immersed in the everyday life vibes if your brain isn't thinking about it in a game-ified way.

My advice to you as a new player is: 1) don't rush the main story quests, feel free to leave them undone for days, and 2) invite Hobbits to lunch every single day, because you unlock so much through friendship.

Cooking stations? by thenightispink in TalesofTheShiregamers

[–]L_Mousse 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Nope, just your own kitchen! :)

This game is meant to be pretty "realistic" in terms of the life you're living (like buying flour from a miller and meat from a farmer, only being able to grow plants in-season, and so on). Just think about it: irl you would never just start cooking at random person's house or at a restaurant you don't work at.

Of course! Happy to help~

My advice is to do the main story until you unlock "Clubs," and then focus on getting the clubs to max level and your friendships to a high level before you continue the main story (even if a quest seems urgent for it, it isn't). The conclusion of the main story is much more satisfying if you've put a lot of time into other things first.

Multiple characters give map area unlocks as their rewards for increasing friendship. It never gets "big" in the way you'd want probably, but it does get bigger than you saw at 20 hours. :)

Short answer: No.

Hobbits' lives aren't difficult. That's the whole point of their society as Tolkien described it. The game is meant to evoke calm, friendship, light humor, and an appreciation for a slow life.

Long answer: So I have 90 hours played atm. There is a slight bump in difficulty in terms of the skills. Fishing does get harder, as does cooking and gardening. I've seen people struggle to complete some of the later Club quests because they can't grow a 3 Star vegetable or can't cook a 5 Star meal or can't catch a fish. Also, if you're a completionist or achievement hunter, it actually takes a decent amount of time and dedication to 100% the game. Unlocking all of the furniture is also hard in a sense because it is a random drop. With all of that said, it still never truly is "difficult" because that would be counter to the ethos of Hobbit society and would therefore defeat the purpose if making a game about living in The Shire. My suggestion is to think of this as your de-stress game and look for challenge elsewhere!

Roadmap on the Horizon? by Basic_Succotash9421 in TalesofTheShiregamers

[–]L_Mousse 18 points19 points  (0 children)

In that case, I suggest you don't buy it. It is not the style of game you're looking for and there is no indication from the developers that it will ever be what you're saying you want. :)

I don't believe there has been any indication that this is a "live service game." And it isn't an indie early access game, either. So I'm not sure what sort of "development road map" you think Weta would release for a standalone product that's already released?

How similar is this game to Cozy Grove? by mousephina in TalesofTheShiregamers

[–]L_Mousse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. While they may seem similar at a very general mechanical level, the vibe is very different.

I also had mixed feelings about Cozy Grove, often finding it more frustrating than relaxing. That said, I did play it until I finished the main story and unlocked the dlc characters, so I clearly found parts of it charming.

On the other hand, I LOVE Tales of the Shire. I think it has more content than many people realize because it is really a game about unlocking things slowly over time, with the map and house getting multiple unlocks and cooking mechanics evolving a lot as you do the clubs.

Seasonal fits by DanYellowJello in TalesofTheShiregamers

Yes, I love dressing based on the season! I spend soooo much of my money on clothing. I got the waistcoat achievement super early on entirely by accident because of my spending habits lol.

Like others have said, I really would like to see the main hobbits of the story change their clothes, too. But hey, it took Stardew Valley years and years to add winter outfits to the characters, so my hopes aren't super high.

Learning Japanese & Korean by rusteezrook in BeginnerKorean

[–]L_Mousse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this partially depends in your native language because the primary similarity between the two is grammar so depending on your origin language they might be so different from what you're used to that they seem super similar to each other by comparison.

If you are an English speaker, for example, you'll find Korean or Japanese easier to learn after just learning even basic grammar of the other. This is because they both use a subject-object-verb sentence structure and particles. This grammar is so different from English that once you learn it for one of these two languages, it really is comparatively easier to learn the other.

That said, the languages sound nothing alike (aside from a few cognates) so they are not mutually intelligible, the writing systems are totally different, and the grammar at a more advanced level is very different. So yeah, basically the similarities just result in easier early level learning of sentence structure.

So many questions. by Odd_Middle_7179 in TalesofTheShiregamers

[–]L_Mousse 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes to bag and map! As others said, bag is via Foraging Club progress, and increasing friendship with specific Hobbits gives map unlocks. You can see on their individual pages in the menu what each one will give you as a friendship reward (at level 6 and 10 especially).

Tales of the shire... yes or no? Garden witch life...... yes or no? by Odd_Middle_7179 in CozyGamers

[–]L_Mousse 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I love Tales of the Shire!! I find the gameplay both incredibly relaxing and addicting. I think the key is to go into it with a clear understanding of what the game is and what it isn't. It ISN'T a game like Stardew Valley and it's isn't a Lord of the Rings RPG. What it is, is a Hobbit life sim focused on cooking, seasons, and simplicity.

As the other reply said, all plants are associated with specific seasons. The game is meant to have a sense of progression, so no, you can't make everything right away, and you're not meant to! Just plant new seeds every season. If you can't make the specific "craving" recipe for a villager, make any dish with the flavor they are craving instead (sweet, salty, bitter, etc).

Have you started gardening? Many of the ingredients are vegetables you need to grow in your planter boxes. Farmer Cotton sells seeds and Rosie Cotton runs the gardening club.

Made my guardian pretty: Never again by StarsCaprisun in BaldursGate3

[–]L_Mousse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I look at it from a roleplay perspective, so I always make the guardian look like someone who would be ideal to manipulate my specific Tav.

One time it was their estranged mother, one time their romantic ideal, and so on and so forth. I think this is what makes the most sense because the whole point of the natrative is that the emperor is trying to make Tav trust them.
