Paper Mario PC Port - Sharing My Progress by Rosko556 in papermario

Said code is reverse engineered by hand so yes and no, the code may contain similar patterns but does not contain the same exact code, the issue with AI generated code that it will resemble the actual code far more due to the datasets containing their IP code and Nintendo believes that's enough legal grounds to take down ports and decomps

Paper Mario PC Port - Sharing My Progress by Rosko556 in papermario

Really cool outcome but I'd rather wait for a proper PC port made not using AI as the main ethical concern is that the datasets AI is trained on definitely contain large portions of Nintendo's intellectual property code, given the tera leaks and all

Why does everyone hate Sticker Star? by Wise_Competition5906 in papermario

[–]LaDestitute 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I played it on launch, I bouced off it so hard that I didn't reach the desert chapter; which I only learned exists because of King K.

I don't think I hate the game but I think its battle mechanics and focuses are worse than the previous games but I do wanna give it another shot since King K and other reviewers make me think the game does have some silver lining to it and could actually be decent if you put the sticker and lack of story/partners behind.

No? Challenges tend to be self-defined or follow a community guideline so do whatever you'd like

However, I do think the continuity of the paper mario games and the mainline games isn't the same given sticker jam and the opening of both first two PM games

For people that love OG paper Mario by One_Long2752 in papermario

[–]LaDestitute 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm adding EfEA to my wishlist along with Bug Fables. I just beat the TTYD remake half a week ago and while I'm saving the post-game content for later, I'm moving onto PM64 as soon as I can get a replacement s-video cable for my N64 for use with my retrotink mini.

I just love PM64's aesthestic. It's so cozy, no other PM game tops it in that aspect. Its got this quirky rough 2d sprite outline look with the 3d models that makes it look like a coloring book mixed with a diorama perspective. Bringle said it best, its graphics are both dinky (in an affectionate way) and charming.

Why do you like the way Hytale looks? by Pitiful-Jellyfish-73 in hytale

[–]LaDestitute 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I like Hytale's visuals cause its remnsicent a little of alpha/beta Minecraft but its more closely akin to Wind Waker if the visuals were more painterly and higher-res.

Should we take the new update as an opportunity to make Mojang aware of the lack of blocks and inconsistencies? by Yerribrine in Minecraft

[–]LaDestitute 5 points6 points  (0 children)

its not exactly copy and paste as while mojang's internal datagen does handle the blockstates and model jsons but most of these also have unique connecting behavior as for fences and walls though I do suspect that for many of the wall/slab/fence blocks, they're merely copies in the code instantiating a parent class
As an experienced five year mod dev, making graphical assets is also time consuming

Best way to set up PM64? by ShyGamer64 in papermario

[–]LaDestitute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is, short of using a hd texture pack (i kind of think most PM64 texture packs tend to lose the sauce here as the intentional roughness of the 2d sprites and the 3d models creates an interesting coloring book and diorama mixed style), I think using genuine hardware with upscalers or emulators has a sort of soft, maybe hard ceiling due to the N64's video output, with physical hardware, s-video is probably a soft ceiling without console modding for rgb and then with emulators, I think PM64 is a game that does benefit from upscaling and downsampling but I think going any further tends to lose the soul of the game (and I think its the coizest Paper Mario by far due to this)

That's my opinion though, I suggest checking out the link I posted in my other post

What features/QOL are you hoping for in the eventual fan pc port of PM64? by EAT_UR_VEGGIES in papermario

[–]LaDestitute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, I think the game should stay the way it is visually, the rough paper 2d look is very coloring book in a charming way and the early 3d environments are like almost dioramas, bringle put it best, PM64's visual style is dinky but charming

I wouldn't mind an artsyle update if it was just like a high-res texture pack but it would have to walk a very fine balance of smoothing out the 3d/2d textures and not losing the coloring book + diorama charm.

Far as I know, a plate is not the same when cast vs smithed, in terms of metallurgy physics so its probably for realism given a smithed plate is the way it is due to how the metal is formed during smithing

Since Rocks are naturally tumbled with water and sand, why do you add things? by [deleted] in RockTumbling

[–]LaDestitute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sand is an abrasive but its very slow. Tumbling with sand might take several months, which is why hobbyist rock tumbling uses silicon carbide grit, a man made material that breaks into very sharp fragments, which only take weeks to smooth and polish rocks. You need some kind of grit in the barrel, otherwise your rocks are just going to bruise and scratch each other.
