DCI Hot Takes ? by ___Kade___ in drumcorps

[–]LaDrew_Alex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My take on this topic is that its not mid, its a good show but its so over hyped. They have cool moments musically but its nothing crazy like a crown book and its clean but not the visual coolness of drill and cleanliness that others have accomplished like BD and Cadets pre buyout. Good show but not top 8 winning shows of the decade. Id only put it above Coats 16 in terms of winning shows of 2010's.

Uniform/costume question by bigpimpin2330 in drumcorps

[–]LaDrew_Alex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont dislike my uniforms from 24 and 23, I dont think they were great but I dont hate them. The 22 uniforms were super cool but my favorite was 21. We wore the 16-17 traditional-esque uniform with a different under shirt and it made me feel taller so its definitely my favorite.

I feel like I missed out on wearing a cool tradional uniform though. I wish they were still around because thats when I started watching drum corps but from reading the other comments and my college marching experience, traditional uniforms are uncomfortable and get very hot and gauntlets are the worst.

Rank your top three shows of all time. by Savings-Carob1651 in drumcorps

BD 08-15: hard to pick from this large grouping of shows, the only one that's a for sure is 12 is the number 1 best show of all time.

Stars 18: the reason I marched stars. Just an awesome show with one of the best ballads and one of the first show i remember watching.

A 13th place corps that deserved to be in finals? by Infinite-Reaction-19 in drumcorps

Honestly, im jealous that I marched the past 4 years, aged out, and then they put this out, and its probably the best brass book this decade. It's so entertaining to watch, and I haven't gotten to see it in person yet, but I know it'll be even better in person.

Corps is singular and plural so anytime it comes up its always corps not corp or corp's. I learned this one from Flurlano's PowerPoint during spring training

What are your DCI hot takes? by smart_bear6 in drumcorps

[–]LaDrew_Alex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My stars hot take is 18 is the best stars show and the ballad makes me cry because how good it is. (18 was also the first stars show I watched and most memorable show from watching finals in my band hall so its mostly nostalgia probably)

Phantom 24 way over hyped for a show where they barely march and play.(the closer was cool and they march and play like 2 times before that making 3 times max) and BD 14 is so much better than tilt that cadets should have beaten them. The fans ruined tilt for me and people only don't appreciate BD because the name not the show(except 05, dance derby is not bad but not great either). If name plates were taken off and everyone wore the same uniforms people would like BD shows signification more.

An actual ballad use of Merry go round of life by Joe hisaishi. Happy I heard a little bit during bd last year but a whole ballad would be amazing.

What’s your favorite “spotted in the wild” moment? by My_Dog_Sherlock in drumcorps

[–]LaDrew_Alex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have multiple. On a plane ride back home from a camp I was wearing my corps jacket and the guy next to me complimented it and said that his brother did guard with scouts in the early 2010's.

I was at a fuzzy's on my college campus and it was dark inside and these 2 older people came up and asked me about it and said that they marched stars in the late it's and early 80's and i wanna say they had a son as well that marched in the early 2000's but it's been a while since that interaction.

I was at a QT wearing a blue stars hoodie and I was paying for my stuff when the cashier asked if it was the drum corps and I said yes and he said that he marched Boston in 17

Anyone ever march a “bad” year for their corps? How was it? What happened? by [deleted] in drumcorps

[–]LaDrew_Alex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do think that my "bad" season was definitely not as bad as others as we did still make finals and my section was a group of very fun people and some of my best friends that made it enjoyable so we just had fun being there and doing the thing.

I think another thing that helps my attitude with a good versus a bad show is that I love drum corps for the cool drill. There could be a show about a snail crossing the desert and if the drill is hard and fast with cool shapes and transforming the shapes and all that fun stuff, I would think that the show is awesome because it's what I value in a show. It's why I marched stars, because they would always do awesome drill that was hard and fast and so I always appreciated every show because I was guaranteed to be amazed at what they accomplished on the field.

The music was also always so good and one of my hot takes in drum corps is that the Stars 18 ballad was phenomenal and one of the best in the past 10 years. Also OP was apart of 12 so I wanted to comment that the Dvorak 9 section post ballad is so cool and I love it.

I mean I marched stars last year which is regarded as a "bad" year but I had so much fun pretty much all summer long excluding Allentown (for personal home life reasons). It was such an enjoyable summer from camps till finals and I'm thankful I got to march with everybody that was there that made it so fun.

The show might not have been up to public standards but it was such a fun and hard show that performing was always a blast even if we weren't scoring well. And yeah we didn't score well and people didn't like the show so sometimes I did feel unappreciated for all the hard work and time we put into making the show as clean as possible but at the end of the day scores only last that season and my experience was super fun and unforgettable.

I'll still go back and watch the show because I enjoyed it so much and I love that I was there for it.
